whistling.gif Good Morning Everyone here at LYN. I've been checking out LYN for a few years now, just got an account today though.

Hope to ask the many tech enthusiasts here.

My question is (are, lol)

1. What is the Best Time to buy laptops, at its cheapest, is it December 2011 or January 2012?

2. PIKOM PC FAIR is coming soon, 2nd to 4th here in KL, are the PRICES of laptops cheaper or more worth it comparing with buying @ lowyat or Digital Mall?

3. Read online that the best time to buy a laptop is in April. Does that apply in Malaysia? Can't wait that long tho...

THANKS in advance! biggrin.gif

1. Wait for new processor/chipset in 2012
2. Laptop price is still the same in pc fair
3. That depends whether you buy the laptop are necessity. If can't wait, buy now. If can wait, buy later.

simple.

Buy now, or you'll be in the waiting game forever.
You can definitely get laptops for better prices in Lowyat than in any PC Fair. Guaranteed.

When is the new processor coming out? codename ivy bridge I believe? checked google... That would mean I would have to wait till about mid Year 2012.... ivy bridge have the 3D transistor technology, is there any estimate that laptops would be alot thinner and/or cheaper?

I'm planning to go intel on the laptop

So the prices in Dec 2011 and Jan 2012 are roughly the same?

And that there is almost no difference in price/worth comparing to buying at PIKOM and lowyat?

(psst: the only diff I've gathered from the net is that PIKOM fair gives more freebies and also we see the beautiful showgirls!)

(mainly because PIKOM would be a little to rush for me this year)

I need this by Jan I think, latest March, starting uni! smile.gif)

thanks!

Hey just found something there... apparently Ivy Bridge is for desktops and Haswell is for lappies, which would only enter by 2013?

SOrry for double posting, lack of time spent in researching before replying, my bad ...

Ivy Bridge will have better power-saving technology, better integrated graphic. http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/cpus/2011...ut-ivy-bridge/2

At the same time AMD will release their next-gen GPU for desktop and mobile around Q1/Q2. I'm not sure about Nvidia tho.. probably around Q2 also.

Added on November 13, 2011, 6:30 pmno.. Haswell will base on a new microarchitecture unlike Ivy-Bridge which is a shrink version of Sandy-Bridge with few more optimization/feature.

Ivy-Bridge = 2012
Haswell = 2013
Broadwell = 2014

when release that depend by intel, may not mid 2012. google info not 100% true, that is secret.

the cpu price most time is stable. only model/performance update. for examples 2 month ago you buy I7-2630QM, now same price you can buy I7-2670QM. Intel return back the I7-2630QM, that not cut down the price.

Not IT, ivy bridge ....only the *name. that a bussinss market.Intel can bypass the ivy bridge direct to Broadwell. but, how can gain more more money. just stupid user, every year update computer.

buy when u can't wait anymore... that's the best time...

Ivy Bridge? nah... despite using tri gate transistor, architecturally it's not really a major difference from Sandy Bridge since it is merely a "tick" on Intel's roadmap, so performance is roughly similar...

the major selling point of Ivy Bridge is still performance/watt... in Sandy Bridge Intel raised the overall performance significantly while maintaining the same TDP, this time round they are going to lower the power consumption while maintaining at the same performance... quad core CPU @ 35W TDP? configurable TDP? these are some of the interesting features of Ivy Bridge... it all revolves around power consumption...

go to lowyat plaza. They offer very good deals.

For example, RM2100 , USD800 laptops could come with insane RAM , warranty, and freebies and freebags coming together with it.
