You kinda missed the boat in the early nineties, when Drizzt was so popular that everyone wanted to play a dark elf ranger who wields two weapons and has a pet black panther in their rpg games )Generally I find most Forgotten Realms novels to be a bit on the boring side, though Evermeet is really good! I highly recommend for anyone interested in FR's Elven history and their gods. On the other hand, I'd avoid the Avatar series - really bad writing. You might want to try the Icewind Dale series of books too, since Drizzt first makes his appearance in those books.
