iPhone 4 audio codec chip http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/iPhone-4-Teardown/3130/3Cirrus Logic 338S0589 audio codec (Apple branded). This is the same part as in the iPad. iPhone 4s audio codec chip http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/iPhone-4S-Teardown/6610/2*Step 10 Apple 338S0987 B0FL1129 SGP, believed by Chipworks to be a Cirrus Logic audio codec chip Older gen http://www.ifixit.com/Browse/iPhoneiPod Touch 4 audio codec chip http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/iPod-Touch-...Teardown/3562/3*Step 21 On the far left is a 338S0859 chip. It's similar to the Cirrus Logic audio codec of the iPhone 4 (338S0589). As i know my iphone 4 sound output is not really that satisfying Im using ajays four and compare with i plug into laptop. Iphone clearly lose much

Compared Iphone 4 with Ipod Classic 5th gen, clearly iphone really sounds like HTC phones. @@

for me the best iphone for audio would be 3gs. iphone 4 out from 3.5mm jack sound a bit digital.... cold and flat....
but should be another story if u pair up with fostex HP - P1 or CLAS

Actually I feel that IPT4 sounds better with AAC than MP3 considering both format having the same bit rate when I ripped the same song from CD.

The fact: AAC is a superior and MP3 is pretty much obsolete. Anything current should sound better than MP3 at the same bitrate. AAC 128 kpbs VBR sounds the same as ALAC or CD to me. I'm sure many would disagree but I'm just stating what I hear. Disclaimer: That was about a year or 2 back when I tested, with a Shure SE110.
