Because you can go see Graphic card spec , the resolution up until a certain point of resolution.
For GTX460 , Maximum resolution can support is around 2560X1600 (For Digital Resolution)

Still can , but think need to reduce graphic content since it will eat up much of the ram.

GPU Memory.
Like in AMD Radeon case , they offer 512mb , 1GB and 2GB.
That means the more bigger the memory capacity of the GC , you can support much more bigger resolution monitors/TV or even more monitors like AMDs EyeFinity
