empire23,

Zimmerit here's some tips:
1) get a mini saw blade - the tip assembles the zimmerit pattern.
2) Epoxy putty - mix the 2 parts together and place them on your tank surface inch by inch. While doing that, use the saw blade and scribe the pattern onto the surpace of the epoxy.

to add effect, after drying, use a sharp object to break little parts of the zimmerit to assemble detached zimmerit, but don't over do this.

Hope this tip helps!

Whoaa...saw this great model of the Kingtiger for Battle of the bulge wan...damn nice...metal parts included. Metal gun too. Brass parts for super detail. Single track links...Every tank in the company that participated has a number and this kit has all of it... drool.gif

Er...Kingtiger usually dun use zimmerit unless its the porsche version as its the late version. During the end of the war, the wehrmacht was on the retreat so zimmerit is of no use. They no longer take part in massive assaults but retreating. So to ambush enemies from long range, zimmerits not so favourable la...besides its additional weight on the tank.

usually u assemble the parts first...cut off the stem remains, putty and sandpaper, primer up, after that check for uneven surfaces...if got putty and sand again. then only spray color...first coat usually used for weathering paint then followed by the camouflage and so on.

great stuff.

i used fix up WW2 tamiya, academy and dragon kits (30++ at last count). Picked up the hobby coz was very impressed with the dioramas people created for competition. unfortunately they went against godzilla on a rampage (mum with a feather duster + dustbin) one fine day and that was the last i saw them. those poor baskets. i bet they put up one hell of a fight tongue.gif

Hi all,

I'm new to all these military model kits and I'm a huge fan of all these military models. Therefore, I was wondering which brand that I should get as a starter of military model kits collecter? I believe there some brand which is good in detailing of the models while some are not.

What would be the standard price and scale as of these military model kits? I was thinking to get some tanks model as my starter collection. Anyone could provide me the information of what should I get? For instance, any guidelines for the paintbrush? any guidelines for the glue brand and type? I was thinking to get some 1/72 scale of model kits from hlj.com or local stores. Is that advisable? unsure.gif

Any help is much appreciated notworthy.gif

whats the best model to start with. i heard everyone should start with PLANES and tanks last. due to the the complexity of tank models.

Well, can I say come on in?

Anyway, tank models are not that complex, you can always start with the simple kits. Tamiya's kits are easy to build, especially their older kits. Of course, you can't just jump into the hobby building a Premium Edition DML Panther tank! Start slowly and you can move on to more complex kits once you have gain confidence. Perhaps you can try Tamiya's new 1/48 scale tanks?

Any models can be complex especially if you decide add resin replacement parts/add-on parts, photo-etch, metal parts, aftermarket decals etc etc...

And talk about that Sherman.. I don't think that there is both a flail (crab) and flamethrower (crocodile) on the same tank at the same time!

musta have got confused then. is it just me of WW2 tanks seems to be the favs among model builders. i always like the sherman especially the DD tank variant. maybe they have more personality than current tanks.

I'm not sure about USJ and I don't think Toys R Us stock model kits anymore. Ok maybe you can try Miniature Hobbies at SS14 PJ (near Jaya Supermarket). Its located above the Sushi King (or is it TGI Friday's?)

cc and lee brands also ok because sometimes the kit
based on the others brand, there just reissue the molding
like lee the a2-a american awacs early warning system
which scale do ur prefer intead, like lee brands
mostly they use italeri kit, instead i have one lee brands
model kit, overall fittting ok, but ur need a lot of sanding
n putty

is it all just about tanks? what about warships and fighter jets?

this is an expensive hobby. and you'll need space for them too.
