I ALREADY QUITE TIRED OF ALL THE PEOPLE THAT COMES IN LYN especially XBOX column and open a thread and say...

I CANNOT UPDATE MY XBOX 360!!!! HELP ME!!!!

So this is a small guides for you to update your xbox 360. Icaruskid if can pinned this thread.

For PHAT AND SLIM 360 owner, usually all the updates that you're having right now is a dashboard update. The reason that you cannot update your dashboard is most probably of your 360 is modded. I could not think now that THIS IS THE SOLELY reason that your 360 can't update.

How to solve it? SIMPLE.

1) Sell off your modded and start to play ORIGINAL.
2) There are many people/technician out there who know how to mod your 360 SHOULD KNOW how to mod back to unmodded. GO LOOK FOR THEM from where you brought from.

You're right in stating that these forums should not be used for tech support for modded consoles. However, i don't think pinning your post is the answer. I'll discuss with the other mods to see if we can have updated sub-forum rules.

better create a technical FAQ thread by compiling the existing info. Most of the technical treads are repeated issues

Yeah, that's one of those things that's in dire need of upgrading, the stuff on it is so old and irrelevant that probably nobody uses it as a resource. Still looking for volunteers to do a new guide or if everyone's waiting for me to do it, it'll probably be sometime in the new year.

Unfortunately, I'm not the most technical person around as i'm just happy my xbox switches on when i press the guide button on my controller.

its difficult to even diagnose some of the issues, MOST of the issues are due to modding, especially with current firmware update. Due to this sensitive nature of those piracy issue, noone can conclude if suggested methods worked.

So far of what i encountered:

1. unable to update (stuck at update)
= Due to CFW of DVD rom or tempering with security
= failed update due to corrupted File (solveable by clearing cache and installing it again by XBL or USBflash)
= Wrongly identify dvd rom firmware to be non legitimate (rare case, may due to tempering with gamertag profile, or DRM in HDD)

2. XGD3 wouldnt boot
= Due to Piracy with CFW
= Did not update firmware.

3. Kinect inconsitent
= Did not installed properly
= Did not update to the latest Kinect support patch (based on GT) which is different from dashboard firmware.
