sent my sis' gti for service few days ago and had a look at the showroom in batu lanchang penang. man, the polo sedan is basically a pure ripoff. hard plastics everywhere and you feel like sitting inside a 50k car. the salesgirl was like yeah, we dont even know how to sell polo sedan so they gave us the 'low interest' bank loan to help us sell. marvelous. isit true that she said the goverment played a role in preventing other marques from lowering their prices too much?

QUOTE(zenix @ Jun 12 2012, 01:58 PM) really need to bring it to someone who really knows what they're doing. i know of two shops in glenmarie that does it well, they're always working on expensive cars too. problem is i stay in penang and my pops trusts this old friend of his which i doubt he knows how things are in new cars . hmm its okay, ill look around first.

QUOTE(electron @ Jun 12 2012, 11:07 PM) what's the reason for respraying? to change colour for personalization? or because damaged paintwork (scratch, swirl, etc)? if it's the latter, i would suggest to send to a good detailer to evaluate whether is it restorable and also the cost for it. usually very hard to get factory quality paint job outside former. she wanted a white GTi back then but there was no stock. now after a year, she wants to respray it cause we got a silver for her.

QUOTE(Mavik @ Jun 13 2012, 02:04 PM) Just make sure that the shop you are going to have the right facilities to dry the paint on the car. Note that we definitely can't get factory type finish mainly because when they paint the car in the factory it is also oven baked at god knows what temperatures to ensure the paint is laid properly. I do know a couple of shops who have painted VW's (resprayed a Golf GTI to rising blue) but they are in Selangor. hmm . honestly, problem is not with the paint quality, but more on how well can they assemble back the car.

QUOTE(Mavik @ Jun 13 2012, 03:58 PM) Then best to check with your local VW dealers, talk to the service technician, buy him coffee and find out from him where does their branch send their cars to be sprayed or fixed up. At least you would know that they have experience with VW cars. hah, thanks. anyway, would it be stupid to just paint the whole car except the engine bay? lol This post has been edited by stix: Jun 13 2012, 04:07 PM

QUOTE(Mavik @ Jun 13 2012, 04:14 PM) Actually no, a lot of people do choose that option to save on costs. But then it's easier to get detected that the car is reprinted, just makes it a lot more of a headache at road blocks etc...etc... i see, hmm might just resort to that. well i hardly see any JPJ in penang before, probably only once from my 7 years of driving. roadblock should not be a problem then haha afterall, what can't RM100 do during roadblocks? its a general question but might as well i ask it here. as i have previously stated, im planning to spray my GTi white. just came back from the shop and was quoted RM2600. will be sending it over on next friday but before that, all i need to know is, is it compulsory for me to re-register my colour with JPJ? i won't be doing a full spray, as in not dismounting the parts in the engine bay. advice? thanks in advance.
*full body white and black on the roof.

QUOTE(cute_boboi @ Jun 15 2012, 05:49 PM) Officially, you need to inform JPJ & Insurance. ahh right, insurance. hmm. possible if i spray it first and deal with the paperwork later?
