QUOTE(r3kahsttub @ Nov 10 2011, 03:39 PM) Hi all, I've written a short article on the Polo GTI here. Appreciate any constructive thoughts/comments so that I can improve! Nice Thanks in advance, folks! So nice to see that VW are growing a set of balls and bringing in a car like this. The bloated order book is just reward for their willingness to take some risks. At the same time, makes me feel a bit depressed as I was not able to convince my wife to change to a Polo GTI. Anyways, anyone on the forum received their Polo GTI already? Come we exchange cars for 1 or 2 days as I really, really, really want to drive the car. |

I had a comparison test between the Golf and Polo GTI, and the only thing the Polo lacked (at least in my opinion) was space. Other than that, I loved that supermini!
Btw, I've heard that a couple of Polo GTIs have already been delivered. |

How to justify forking out an extra RM70k to buy a Golf GTI when the performance figures are identical? Is the bit of extra space really worth RM70k? |

I will let the rest share with you in term of ride, space, bhp, stability, feel, potential small tweak to add 40bhp + 120nm, R lights, gadgetry etc etc. This post has been edited by Broleo: Nov 10 2011, 07:00 PM |

QUOTE(omichael @ Nov 10 2011, 05:28 PM) The Polo GTI seems like quite the game changer. There is really no point comparing la. Golf is a whole lot bigger and at high speeds and cornering abilities, the Golf is likely more stable. Is the extra space worth it? That is very subjective and it depends on the owner's needs. Personally, the Polo GTI will be my obvious choice if I'm buying it as the 2nd car. If I already have a large sedan as my family transport, I dont mind getting the Polo as a weekend fun car. However, for some of us in this forum which includes me, do not have that luxury of owning a few cars, the Golf GTI provides the right balance of practicality, space, power and fun. How to justify forking out an extra RM70k to buy a Golf GTI when the performance figures are identical? Is the bit of extra space really worth RM70k? I guess if you start comparing which is better, M3 or M5? Then the debate will never end again. Both are excellent cars to serve different needs and budget. |

I think most of you guys are reading from paper. the 0-100 is mostly what you guys will look for. i recommend if possible do a test drive on the golf gti and the polo gti when it comes available. apart from it's 0-100 the chassis, handling, and also safety are almost miles apart justifying the RM70K price tag.

Very detailed and loved all the pictures available. Thanks in advance, folks! QUOTE(omichael @ Nov 10 2011, 05:28 PM) The Polo GTI seems like quite the game changer. On paper you will see that the performance figures seem the same but for the enthusiast, the Golf GTI has a lot more potential than the Polo GTI because I would say that the 7-speed dry clutch gearbox is holding it back and of course there is the 1.4 engine (I have seen those crazy German fellas pull out 300bhp out of that 1.4 engine but of course on a manual gearbox). How to justify forking out an extra RM70k to buy a Golf GTI when the performance figures are identical? Is the bit of extra space really worth RM70k? If you do a very detailed comparison, the Polo GTI shares a lot more similarities with the Golf GTI Mk1 actually, in terms of size and weight. The current Golf GTI is like double the weight of that of the original GTI but of course this is due to the safety features. Thanks for all the comments folks. Really appreciate it. And yes, to be fair, there is a reason for the RM80k gap between a Polo and Golf GTI. The money obviously goes somewhere! But, bang for buck, the Polo GTI certainly comes out on top!
Fantastic pics as well, Mark. I think... I might have seen your car yesterday, in Seri Kembangan area? Had all the GTI cues, but no badge on the front, which was easy to remember... was that you? Btw - I'm working on getting a Scirocco R and Golf R to review as well; will keep you guys posted in here. |

QUOTE(Broleo @ Nov 10 2011, 06:59 PM) the only sameX2 thing is the 0 to 100 only..the rest is a different class of vehicle alltogether... Not everyone is able to appreciate R lights, handling, mod potential, etc. To the average car buyer the perception will be that they now have an option to get close to Golf GTI-level performance at a MUCH cheaper price, even cheaper than a Golf TSI. I will let the rest share with you in term of ride, space, bhp, stability, feel, potential small tweak to add 40bhp + 120nm, R lights, gadgetry etc etc. It's these kinds of people who may question the need to fork out an extra RM70k for the Golf GTI. It's a lot of money bro, you could put a downpayment on two houses with that... But actually I'm just curious as to how the Polo GTI is going to affect Golf GTI and TSI sales. And to us existing Golf owners, I wonder how it will affect our car's resale value. This post has been edited by omichael: Nov 11 2011, 01:44 AM |
