dont expect it to be fast and the FC wont be as good either. The 1.6 is kinda stressed since it need to lug around a heavy body. Put in another 4 passengers and it will take forever to make a century sprint.

If your budget could be stretched up much higher, then take the 1.8. Better power. If can't then just stick with Vios (if you insist on wanting a Toyota).

I noe most SAs dun hv test units for d 1.8 n 1.6. But if ur serious, should b no issue to arrange to test drive customers' cars of those variants.

i wanted to get the 1.6 due to it's new engine and bigger cabin... not to mention better looking than Dugong... but no test drive, no showroom unit, no drivers in the altis forum, nothing at all...

Add few ks more to get the 1.8E better, 1.6E equip with only 4 speeder, while the 1.8E equip with 7 speed CVT gearbox...
My mum own the 1.8E, she can get an average of 15km/l, 50% city drive, FC is better than my myvi shocking.gif ...

i think 1.6 quite ok la,

for uncle like me to drive slow slow, you get the comfort and suspension of a bigger car, not too bad.

the 4 speed gearbox is old technology from toyota brought forward from the previous version of the altis. which means reliable.

Smaller CC with a big car actually consumes more fuel. Altis sized car needs to be 1.8cc to be pratical. And i dun see how maintenance can be more expensive between a 1.6 Altis and a 1.8 Altis....parts are more or less the same....engine oil also should be around there, maybe just a little bit more.

The concept is not 100% right.

1.8 can have better FC compared to 1.6.

The math doesn't work like that.
If 1.6 is underpowered, it can consume more fuel as body weight is rather identical for both 1.6&1.8.
Unless you are comparing different car built, like 1.6 one is smaller, then different story all together.

For eg. 1.6 need 2000 rpm to achieve the same speed with 1.8 at 1800 rpm, then 1.8 may have better FC.

Also 1.8 has CVT, which have better FC than older 4 auto gear on 1.6.

1.8 vs 1.6 maintenance cost wise won't differ as they are the similar engine, engine oil need 200-500ml more? biggrin.gif

Just CVT gear difference only.

Also do consider, 1.8 may have better second hand value compared to 1.6 due to demand wise is more concentrated on 1.8.

actually Altis 1.6 and Forte 1.6 4 speeder have similar power to weight ratio, size, etc... have not tested both so cannot comment on the power...

I can tell you Forte 1.6 is very underpower. No syiok at all....especially the 4 gears AT. Feels like driving my old KIA Sephia.
