I had upgraded my iphone4 firmware to iOS5.. After i do so, I noticed that my iphone went into NO SERVICE (i.e. no network coverage) mode frequently!! Fyi, i never jailbreak my iphone b4...

Anyone experiencing the same problem? I am a hotlink user.. Whenever i encounter this issue, others' hotlink coverage is working fine..sad.gif

If it's iPhone 4 it might be death grip. You can test it to make sure smile.gif btw if that's the problem then get a case it'll help.

But it will not switch carrier or network if you are roaming from 3g to 2g/edge areas. I would say its a temporal solution.

I also have this 'No Service' issues after upgrading to iOs5. My place No Service sometimes kena, but with iOs5 cannot recover from it. Now I need to do the flight mode thing if it happens. Sometimes OK, sometimes not.

I will try your method.

My workplace got restricted areas that are designed to block phone signals, so 'No service' is normal for me...but what is not normal is ios5 doesn't search back for the telco signals after the 'No service'.

Yes...so far tried this morning...its OK...I mean 'No service' still happens, but can recorver from it...no need to go through the flimsy process of toggle around with stuff.

I wonder why need to set it to 'Manual' at achieve this.

I'm also having the same issue.

iPhone 4 on iOS 5.0, Maxis set, non-jailbreak.
Starting 2 days ago, the signal became weird. My house area signal is quite bad, but the problem is once the signal lost, it will never be able to connect back (forever Searching... or No Service). The only solution is restart the device.

I just restored my iPhone. The problem seems gone for now. Hope it won't come back again sad.gif

It is not a bug.. U tried turn OFF 3G.. This is know issue for Maxis.. If u turn ON 3G and your area the 3G coverage is low.. It will affect your signal to no service.. Turn OFF 3G u will gain FULL BAR..

So far for iOS5, after selecting 'Manual' setting its OK for me...unlike Automatic setting..

Dunno why Auto setting cannot lock back to the telco...

Thanks for all advice.

No my 3G and Cellular data is both OFF all the time (my free data plan is over)
And I did mention my problem is:

Before this, when the network is lost, it will automatic find back the network and connect back, or I can manually search for network to connect
And now, once the network is lost, no matter how long I search for network, there will be no result (even I'm in good coverage area), and the screen only shows searching... And no matter what I do (turn on/off airplane or whatsoever), I'll NOT be able to connect back unless I restart iPhone.

Added on November 10, 2011, 3:46 pm2 possible issue only
1.) Do a fresh restore of IOS 5 again.
2.) Your phone hardware could be having problem

I just purchase iphone3GS 8GB from app store Malaysia for a friend.. And it is shipped with 4.3.5. Just upgrade to IOS 5, no problem at all

When I fresh upgrade to iOS5.0, also no problem at all.
And I'm not the only one with this situation. Look at most people replying in this post.
I guess this might be one of the unknown bug in iOS5.0.

5.0.1 is out, anyone tried updating it to see whether it fix the bug? If so many people have the exact same problem, including me, i doubt theres something wrong with the hardware.

Anyway some updates, i know i said to fix this problem, turn off automatic searching of carrier, but yesterday, i went bukit tinggi, the reception there is poor, and the phone couldnt connect back to maxis, i tried restarting and manual search for carrier again, but this time it just stuck at searching carriers. Sigh.

I have the same problem too! I was all fine until 3 or 4 days ago and then it got worst! Had been using iOS5 since the day it was available and the problem only started 3 or 4 days ago. I have tried to reset all settings in the afternoon today and everything went back to normal. But, when I got home, the problem came back again! rclxub.gif Rebooting / reset network settings doesn't help, so I had to reset all settings again doh.gif

Anyone knows how to solve it? It is so annoying and frustrating. sad.gif

The way I know that solve this problem temporarily is to restart/reset the device... It worked on my iPhone...
But it seems doesn't work on yours... Maybe your case is even worse...

Try doing a fresh restore from itunes. I'd do that too but i need my messages to be intact, itunes doesn't allow me to only restore itunes and contact, which is stupid.

I restored to 5.0.1 yesterday, seems fine, call in call out everything working. shucks iphone.

I have been experiencing the same thing.
Using iPhone4 with iOS5, never JB before.

Keep on searching for network.
When finally found network, I couldn't send SMS, sms keep in "sending" mode.
I couldn't make call, when press Call icon, phone will hang at dialling mode.

freaking frustrated.
Any help?
*
Same problem that I experience after upgrading to IOS5. Thought my phone got problem. The phone will not reconnect back to carrier once you lose it. e.g. Entering the lift and exiting the lift. You need to restart the Iphone. A complete fresh restore will immediately solve this issue; however, same problem may recur. I have some gut feeling that IOS5 is limiting the reconnection timeout duration to carrier once you lose it. This is to preserve the battery life. I am totally fine before upgrading from IOS4.1. Another possible root cause will be IOS5 is conflicting with Malaysia Telco if all Telco user like DiGi and Maxis are having similar issue. Let's hope this is fixed asap!

thanks to pipedream and other users comments and suggestions to temporarily fixing the network signal issues dropping after updating to iOS 5.0.1
i search through the apple forums and lots and lots of ppl complaining about battery issues and the cellular network signal dropping faults. i really hope that apple will look into this seriously as is making users more annoyed and miserable.
Anyhow, i will try to restore back to iOS 5 first as the problem is getting worse with iOS 5.0.1 while waiting for apple to released the new firmware.

I think u can't downgrade to ios 5 as apple stop signing the firmware already.

I have upgraded to IOS 5.0.1. Problem not recur yet. Signal deterioration is not prominent yet. Let's cross fingers and wait.

No worry too much.

IOS5 during initial restore, no service issue won't occur but it happens after a few days. Let's observe.

Trouble is, with the ios5. It's is no signal. But with the iOS 5.0.1, it's looks normal....but cannot use phone function! Yes Phone looks normal but with the signals and telco sign on . But cannot use phone function.

Previously I was using semi tethered. Now I take it out. Using normal tet version....which sucks if the phone hang. I really hope they cure this.

One way to check whether your phone could reconnect the carrier is to press *#06# to check your IMEI. If IMEI appears mean your phone is okay. If there is no response with this command means your iPhone is not connected to the carrier. People can call you but your phone will not ring. It's like your phone lose its identity to the carrier. That's what I observe. Some time a reboot helps. Some time it won't. A restore can immediately resolve this but possibility of recurrence is there.

What I do is call my own number....if it say 'currently busy at the moment' means ok...but if its completely quiet...like dead...means A LOT of trouble

I am stuck with ios 5 since i never jailbreak before and never saved my SHSH.

Anyway just try restoring first, its my 2nd day since restoring, never closed my phone, and never had the problem... yet, so u probably need to waste some time doing a restore over and over again if the problem crops back, until apple decided to fix this shiat.

This issue happens to me sometime.

While fb'ing or browsing on Safari suddenly the signal becomes no service then it goes searching and the line is back. Not sure why this happens though. quite annoying but i'll live..

I've updated to iOS5 the day it was made available and did not have the problem at all - until 4/5 days ago. mad.gif

I've also googled bout it and found that some users at other countries have exactly the same problem way back in 2009 and 2010, so iOS5 might be causing to the problem, but not the actual problem I reckon. (Just my POV, I'm not a tech savy) smile.gif

If you manage to get the network back, then it just simply temporary network loss problem, not the one mentioned in this thread.
Your case should be fine and normal.
The case in this thread is that once you lost the signal, you never able to get back the network.

Don't worry mate you don't have the issue as we do. What we experience is, regardless what is shows (No Service / Searching / My Maxis/Digi) the phone function is not working. U can't make a call, or the call hangs, and when people called the phone is just not ringing/vibrating as if no call is coming in.

I called Maxis just now.

They suggest go to Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset Network Settings.

So far the signal in my office is back to normal. Gonna test at other locations when i am driving back home...

Now already abt 15 minutes and not a single no service/signal drop issue.

Boo... After 5 days of iOS 5.0 restore, the problem just came back just now mad.gif

This problem make iOS 5.0 the worst iOS I ever used shakehead.gif

I don't mind blue tint; I don't mind antennagate; I don't mind easily spoiled home button; but I can't accept that a phone can't be used as phone mad.gif
iOS 5 really disappointed me.
And, I can't restore to iOS5.0 now. Thanks to Apple.

Did u tried the restore network settings cokecola76 suggested? I am curious about how useful maxis recommendation are. Mine still haven't show the signs, but i am going on a trip soon, and it gonna sucks if i can't use my phone and only a restore can solve it.

Anyway i am curious, is only the 4 are plagued with this problem? What about the 3GS and the 4S users?

I can tell you the result is the same. It's a software problem.
You can check on this thread https://discussions.apple.com/thread/345173...tart=0&tstart=0
All the people there are facing the same problem, and no matter what they did, the problem persist.
And most of them are 4S users. I'm not sure about 3Gs though.

lol yeah. it was antennagate with the 4. and now, whats this? networkgate with the 4s? I can't believe apple did not even respond to the problem since its been plaguing us since the 5.0. Sigh, looks like i better use my old spare phone for the trip instead. Thanks for the headup though smile.gif

Antennagate was actually not a serious problem, just that the media exaggerate it as a HUGE flaw in iPhone 4.
I can live with that, since I will certainly use a case for my iPhone 4.

However this time, the network problem is not only on the 4S, it's on the iOS 5 itself.
And yet Apple still does not respond to it until now.

Seems am not alone, after going for 5.0.1, my 3GS and wife's 4 couldn't signal when we're at home. Normally I'll get 2-3 bars in my home office but it is now none at all. Both of us are on Digi, don't really think its the telco, but it surely the update that causes this problem.

lol it was serious since normal gripping the phone can cause dropped calls and lost signals, but this is certainly worse, a phone that can't perform as a phone.

Trust me, the no service problem will come back anytime later.
At least not immediately after you restore.
iOS5.0.1 doesn't fix the said problem.

Ahh I was just hit by this bug 5 minutes ago =.=. Using iOS 5 with semi tethered jailbreak. Suddenly my phone was in searching searching.

Tried to respring my phone via sbsettings. Managed to get maxis line but cannot call in or out. I removed my sim card, didn't work also because it still shows I have Maxis line.

Following that I respring without a simcard, it shows no sim then I inserted my sim still showing no sim =.=.

Last I respring my phone with sim, it shows Maxis line. I turned into aeroplane mode, turn on 3g and data then magically it came alive. After it was working the phone then ran all my previous calls and misscalls. Now everything is fine gonna monitor it.

Tested the network coverage on the way home yesterday and it works fine. No service drop/signal issue.
But i realize that the problem happen when I open my foursquare app... so now I hv remove the app and phone work fine...

Don't have 4sq app on my phone still problem occurs. But i highly suspect is the activation of imessage thats doing it, since my bro, who never activates imessage doesn't have the network lost of death.

My friend and I both on iPhone 4 and upgrade iOS5 at the same time; we both have iMessage activated.
My iPhone suffered from this problem twice already (1 restore in between)
However, my friend's iPhone still working fine until today.

This problem really happens too random.
Need more observation and investigation.
Since you suspect its iMessage causing problem, have you tried turn it off and see if problem persists? blink.gif

I had activated it before. But this newly fresh restore still haven't done anything. So far so good. Cause i can't even think of anything else would make my phone potentially targeted by the network lost of death.

So my hypothesis is any activated imessage users, no matter deactivated in the future or not, will increase the probability of network loss of death.

Need more testers to my support my hypothesis laugh.gif

Apparently your hypotheses is incorrect. I have never use imessage and I am still having the no connection error. Newly fresh restore will fail in a day or two.

I'm also hotlink users and I off cellular and 3G all the time (no more free data plan) and I'm also suffering this problem.
This happens randomly; it doesn't matter what carrier you're using.

Is your problem exactly the same as what we mentioned in this thread?

This problem not only happened in Malaysia, it happens everywhere.
For reference:
1. Signal bug in iOS 5
2. iPhone 4 after iOS 5 update keeps searching for network and stays with no service
3. iPhone 4S "no service" problem
4. iPhone 4 (iOS 5) stays searching network, i need help!

and much more...

Any help?

The best remedy I have tried so far is to use manual network selection as suggested.

(i) 3G on
(ii) imessage on
(iii) no jailbreak
(iv) iOS5.0.1
(v) Maxis
(vi) iPhone 4

With twice network lost for the day, but at least it can still rediscover the network.

If you can re-discover the network, then your iPhone is fine...
Our mentioned problem is once the network lost, will never able to find any network...
Need to restart only able to find network (but the same problem will occur again)

First the battery issue (big issue), then now this no service issue
Don't tell me none of the testers did actually faced all these bugs
Really really really disappointed on this iOS 5! mad.gif mad.gif mad.gif mad.gif

Problem reoccured on the 3rd day (not counting those days where i switch off the phone for my trip). Reset network settings but no avail, a restart is needed. The problem manifested now is in the minor stage where a restart will solve things which will probably progress to the chronic stage where even the network is showing maxis, but the phone won't ring when people call in.

Probably gonna restore again when that happens, now to avoid lifts to prevent network lost. rclxub.gif

I actually install semi tethered right after I JB...but the no signal become worst...and no way to make any calls even with Signals. I dunno if this gotta do with semi tethered or not but after I did a restore, I didn't install it again.

Anyway, so far it's ok. Even after no signal at some areas it does search and pickup the telco. Can make calls also. Hope it remains ok

I can confirm that this No Service bug is not caused by jailbreak nor semi-tethered.
Because the first two times where I faced this problem my iPhone was not jailbroken.
And from my experience, after restore your phone will work flawlessly, but only for a few days before it comes back.

What mentioned in this thread is the phone signal problem... which I sees it more serious one shakehead.gif

hi all, as I see that everyone has the issues of whereby the network cellular dropping to NO service or searching issues and my iphone 4 had the exact same problem. I have tried several options like restart the phone or reset the network settings, all of the steps does not work.

I have found one temporarily solution is that if really all the above mentioned steps does not work, try this method as below. Before doing the below steps, PLEASE MAKE SURE SYNC UR IPHONE to ITUNES 1st to backup before doing the below steps as I'm not held responsible for any data/apps/contact or etc missing after doing the below steps. After then you finish resetting it to default, your main screen wallpaper is back to apple default wallpaper and is like setup a new phone again and the nice things is that ALL your apps, contact, songs will still be intact.
Try it and it works for me as temporarily solution while waiting for Apple to release new firmware.

Go to Settings->General->Reset->Reset All Settings

P/S: Make sure select RESET ALL SETTINGS thumbup.gif icon_rolleyes.gif

AND NOT ERASE ALL CONTENT AND SETTINGS doh.gif vmad.gif

The "reset all settings" only work once, i noticed. The second time does not work, restarting doesn't fix the problem either. Have to resort to full restore now.

5.1 beta is out. If the full 5.1 doesn't solve this shit, i am gonna trade this shit phone off for a droid.

Do a restore and don't restart/close ur phone if possible, just charge before it gets empty. I notice the problem comes back after frequent reboots.

i've tried reds*ow but still failed.

Which shop to sent it? is it 3GS or iP 4?
I thot I have the same problem, worst is I manually chnage to iPad baseband and dont find the method to undo it.
I'm willing to pay if there are anyone who can fix my iP 3GS. or at least help me find the expertise shop.

I did go to lowyat, 3 shops, none of them seem to know what baseband is and they keep found error on itunes restoring it. -__-" noobies i think.

3gs ios5 using ipad baseband must use ultrasnow 1.2.4,ultrasnow fixer and use cydia v1.1.2 not a v1.1.1..

wow guess i'm not the only 1 too... mine is a iPhone 4 on 5.0.1 jailbroken semi-untethered, did a search on google and found out a quick fix just on and off cellular data, wait a few minutes and viola! My phone ori firmware is 4.1.3(NO SAVE SHSH cause too late),wanna try iOS 5 so i upgraded,my 1st impressions was the battery life actually lasts longer than my previous firmware (weird i heard so many people complain about battery life on iOS 5) and 2 weeks now no service struck me.....well need a permanent fix don't want to reboot, reset network and restore...

Temporary solution :

Just keep reseting : from reset all settings if that doesn't work, reset network settings, rinse and repeat if doesn't work at each reset.

Its pretty stable after several resets when problem recurs, even found back the lost signal after coming out from the lift.

Or just downgrade to iOS 4 if u got SHSH blobs saved. I was lucky smile.gif

I experienced the same thing upon upgrading my 3GS. SIM not valid. Tried calling Maxis about it, they say that we should restore to stock condition of iOS 4 first before we upgrade to iOS 5. The Maxis technician must be stupid to even suggest that! (Now I know Maxis technicians are stupid)

Only solution for me is to use sn0wbreeze and select "unlock" in the expert setting! That leaves me no choice but to jailbreak it! Really kanas@i larr .....

i just did full restore to my wife problem, and the problem solved. Not sure if this is only temporary or permanent. however i do a restore based on the iOS that was save on my laptop (i downloaded the iOs from website and stored on my laptop, so shift+restore on iTunes to locate the file, instead of downloading and installing from internet). Maybe its too early to celebrate, lets give her a try for a few days ...

After switching off your phone and switching it on again.

Just switch on 3g and cellular data (under settings->general->network).

Hopefully it helps.

Just make sure 3g and cellular data is on for once, everytime you off and on your phone. Press "*#06#" using phone's keypad to check whether your phone is functioning. (U can switch it off later on to save power consumption.)

Not sure abt that cos my workplace signal only 1~2 bars. Some areas totally not signal because high security area. So signals are blocked.

So most of the time my iphone will be searching for signals. Its normal for me, but whats abnormal is searching but never recover from it. Even after bring the iphone to a better coverage area.
But so far its OK now for quite sometime oledi, I hope it stays that way.

am facing the same prob on my iphone 4.
Version: 5.0.1 (9A405)
using digi but it says no service. i put moms maxis sim card, can detect sim lock but cannot connect to carrier. any solution?? Does the bracket part at the version cause the no service issue?

Why is there few types of firmware??? 5.0.1 (4 GSM) and 5.0.1 (4 CDMA)???

Hello All,
Would like to share my experience with you guys.
I am iP4 user. My 1st phone upgraded to iOS5 without any problem (signal), but my home button faulty, so I claimed warranty, so I got another refurbished unit, then my problem starts...
Sometimes my phone signal only 1 bar and NO carrier logo. Anyone call me, it won't show in my phone, but I can call out. Every 3 or 4 days, I have to "Reset All Settings" then my phone will become normal. I read in this forum and got to know is firmware issue, so I ignore and wait for the update.
Again, this refurbished phone gave me home button issue, i claimed another refurbished unit, surprisingly, been using for 2 weeks now and no such issue. (*touch wood)

FYI, 3 phones are same carrier setting(Maxis 11.1), iOS 5.0.1(9A405), Hotlink user

So now my question is... really firmware issue ka? or hardware issue ler?

Hello peeps,

Model: Iphone 4 (Maxis set)
iOS: 5.0.1 (Jailbroken)
Date of Purchase: Dec 10
Telco: Maxis prepaid

I believe this is firmware issue. Not related to hardware. I've no issue before upgrading to iOS 5 months ago and all the while jailbroken biggrin.gif

The best way to rectify this issue is by turning your carrier mode into manual.

Go to settings -> carrier -> turn off automatic and manually search for ur network.

PS: I'm a victim of restoring (iOS) for the past 1 month until i made changes to that setting and it solved 99% of my headache. rclxm9.gif

I solved my issue. When i replaced my lcd they didnt install the sim tray properly causing poor detection towards the simcard. he simply fixed it by reassembling it.

hey guys, i'm facing the same problem as all of u.. cant make calls/sms nor receive calls/sms although my damn signal bar is full.. basically, i restored my iphone more than 10 times each time this problem occurs.. so far, i've tried many things to get this problem fixed.. any how, so far my iphone is running pretty well for 4 days now since my last restore..this is what u guys can try, no promising that it can fix the problem, maybe the problem might occur again, but so far mine is running well:)

1. update ur itunes with the lastest version, and what ever needed to be updated in ur itunes.
2. in ur iphone, go to setting > general > date/time > turn off "set automatically > then set the time zone manually according to ur area.
3. go to general > reset > reset all network
4. reboot ur iphone
5. and now, restore ur iphone with the itunes which u just updated. update any carrier settings if there is a notice pop up.

pls update here if this steps works for u all.. anyhow, i just share what i tried and so far so good:) lets pray that it works for all:)

Let me share my solution to the carrier signal problems.
1)update itunes with the lastest version
2)in itunes, restore your iPhone to its original settings by clicking restore
3)towards the end of restoration, itunes will ask you whether to restore from backup or clean install?
Note:the trick is to go for "Clean Install", do not install from backup.
4)Once installed(iPhone original settings), you can then proceed to restore from backup.

Carrier signal problems solved!Period!

Guys. hope this helps!!

Mine was running Version: 5.0.1 (9A405) upgraded from ios4.3.3

The gist of this solution is you should install fresh copy of ios5.0.1 & to factory setting. NEVER NEVER install to backup copy in your 1st run.

Once your iphone runs in brand new fresh copy of ios5.0.1, you can then proceed to installing your apps, contacts etc by clicking restore from backup. Definitely you will not encounter the Carrier signal problems again!

managed to use solved it by making custom firmware using sn0wbreeze. then using expert option, enable [/] ipad baseband, enter dfu mode. restore using itunes. after reboot, go to cydia, install ultrasn0w. reboot again. then celcom signal founded by iphone. done.

for those stuck at 5.01, solved mine using sn0wbreeze. you need to reflash the iphone baseband to ipad baseband 6.15. even if you already have. then install 'jb' version of 5.01.

i guess its not going anywhere without 'jb' . laugh.gif
