QUOTE(azbro @ Nov 9 2011, 09:45 AM)
My workplace got restricted areas that are designed to block phone signals, so 'No service' is normal for me...but what is not normal is  ios5 doesn't search back for the telco signals after the 'No service'.
Yes...so far tried this morning...its OK...I mean 'No service' still happens, but can recorver from it...no need to go through the flimsy process of toggle around with stuff.

I wonder why need to set it to 'Manual' at achieve this.

wow...maybe its becoz of the system that blocks the phone signals... hmm.gif

I'm also having the same issue.

iPhone 4 on iOS 5.0, Maxis set, non-jailbreak.
Starting 2 days ago, the signal became weird. My house area signal is quite bad, but the problem is once the signal lost, it will never be able to connect back (forever Searching... or No Service). The only solution is restart the device.

I just restored my iPhone. The problem seems gone for now. Hope it won't come back again sad.gif

It is not a bug.. U tried turn OFF 3G.. This is know issue for Maxis.. If u turn ON 3G and your area the 3G coverage is low.. It will affect your signal to no service.. Turn OFF 3G u will gain FULL BAR..

So far for iOS5, after selecting 'Manual' setting its OK for me...unlike Automatic setting..

Dunno why Auto setting cannot lock back to the telco...

Thanks for all advice.

No my 3G and Cellular data is both OFF all the time (my free data plan is over)
And I did mention my problem is:

Before this, when the network is lost, it will automatic find back the network and connect back, or I can manually search for network to connect
And now, once the network is lost, no matter how long I search for network, there will be no result (even I'm in good coverage area), and the screen only shows searching... And no matter what I do (turn on/off airplane or whatsoever), I'll NOT be able to connect back unless I restart iPhone.

Added on November 10, 2011, 3:46 pm2 possible issue only
1.) Do a fresh restore of IOS 5 again.
2.) Your phone hardware could be having problem

I just purchase iphone3GS 8GB from app store Malaysia for a friend.. And it is shipped with 4.3.5. Just upgrade to IOS 5, no problem at all

I have been experiencing the same thing.
Using iPhone4 with iOS5, never JB before.

Keep on searching for network.
When finally found network, I couldn't send SMS, sms keep in "sending" mode.
I couldn't make call, when press Call icon, phone will hang at dialling mode.

freaking frustrated.
Any help?

When I fresh upgrade to iOS5.0, also no problem at all.
And I'm not the only one with this situation. Look at most people replying in this post.
I guess this might be one of the unknown bug in iOS5.0.

5.0.1 is out, anyone tried updating it to see whether it fix the bug? If so many people have the exact same problem, including me, i doubt theres something wrong with the hardware.

Anyway some updates, i know i said to fix this problem, turn off automatic searching of carrier, but yesterday, i went bukit tinggi, the reception there is poor, and the phone couldnt connect back to maxis, i tried restarting and manual search for carrier again, but this time it just stuck at searching carriers. Sigh.

I have the same problem too! I was all fine until 3 or 4 days ago and then it got worst! Had been using iOS5 since the day it was available and the problem only started 3 or 4 days ago. I have tried to reset all settings in the afternoon today and everything went back to normal. But, when I got home, the problem came back again! rclxub.gif Rebooting / reset network settings doesn't help, so I had to reset all settings again doh.gif

Anyone knows how to solve it? It is so annoying and frustrating. sad.gif

I don't think iOS 5.0.1 is the solution. Updated to 5.0.1 last night and the problem is still there. sad.gif

The way I know that solve this problem temporarily is to restart/reset the device... It worked on my iPhone...
But it seems doesn't work on yours... Maybe your case is even worse...

It worked well at first, then on day 3 it got worst, totally non-responsive no matter what I did - reset network settings/reboot. Sigh...........
