Hiding SSID is the best method for me.
Offcourse the best method is to only allow MAC address that is approved to access the WiFi network. However, this method is a lot more complicated then hiding the SSID. I've been using Streamyx for 5 years before I move to UNiFi for almost a year now. And I've never put any encryption on my WiFi and the WiFi SSiD is still the same for this 6 years. I just hid my SSID then when any of my friends or relatives came over to my house and wanted to access my WiFi, I just have to tell them my SSID, that's all. Believe it or not, through all this 6 years the only devices that connected to my WiFi is the devices that belongs to me, my friends & my relatives. This is why I pick hidden SSID without encryption. Without encryption, I don't have to remember the password and the WiFi is still working at the speed of Wireless N. |

QUOTE(goodseeder @ Jan 10 2012, 02:31 PM) Hi man I think they can scan and pick your network, then hijack the MAC. Yes, I know I've been lucky all these past years. Thank you for your suggestion. Encryption is best protection. Maybe you've been lucky because it just happens that no script kiddies live near you. I would secure my network if I were you. Without encryption all your passwords/stuff are open in the air. However I still have the ability to block their MAC address should if they were succesful in accessing my network. I always check my router to see if there's an unknown MAC address accessing my network. I'm still happy with my choice. This post has been edited by sHawTY: Jan 10 2012, 02:40 PM |
