if ur speaker supports optical input, i beleive there is an optical output on the STB

That's the problem, I don't have optical in on my speakers. Only Analog stereo.

I guess component would be my best bet then.

my TV output port tak boleh guna one....dem soft unless I use RCA. In that case I might as well RCA out directly from the STB.

Can linksys e2000 router be used for unifi?

I applied for unifi on Sunday, I noticed that there's now a section in the unifi form for you to tick if you want to automatically terminate your streamyx or tm homeline...

and any extra discount if i autodebit using CC?

There's something very weird, I had a look application online for unifi, now there's an extra option to whether if I want to keep my phone line or not. I am staying in a condo. Does this mean I get to keep my phone number when I convert my tm homeline/streamyx to unifi?

I got a question to regarding Unifi networking system now. Can you use the IPTV port for internet later? Currently my network for my house is like the attached

I am currently using streamyx, which is actually the all in one wireless Modem/router/switch. The switch connects to the NAS and printer directly which are near the each other, and further connects to the HTPC at the TV Hall via a pair of LAN Ports (which I installed during renovation of the house, so the ports are in the wall).

I understand that the STB of unifi have to use the IPTV port of the switch. Problem is that port at the TV hall now has to be shared by both the HTPC and IPTV. I don't mind getting another switch at the TV Hall, but is it possible to do so?

Homeplug doesnt work as the power ports are no different phase, I tried before and they will not pair up.

It isn't too hard eitherĀ  doh.gif
Step by step guide is already provided. Follow closely and you're good to go.

Anyway, why don't you answer my question first. That is, to find out your hardware revision. It's something you no need to get your hands dirty to look for in on your computer. It's just right on the router. The appearance and the label. The thing is that. If your N12 is the old one, it can't even be used with the provided firmware (for use with UniFi and IPTV) and that means you can never replace it with the provided router.

Those channels you mentioned, license for malaysia is held by Astro. Unless TM does something with Astro, else it's impossible for IPTV to have those channels.
Seeing your configuration, I suggest you to place your BTU, STB and the very FIRST ROUTER(either dir615 or tm RND) at the location where your TV is. Since the phone is wireless, I think you won't mind it to be place differently. When your BTU is installed there, ROUTER after BTU and STB after ROUTER. From there, your router still has 3 LAN Port for Internet while LAN Port 4 is solely for IPTV. Your HTPC and PS3 takes up 2 of the remaining LAN Ports and the 3rd remaining LAN Port, connect to your Wall Socket(Your lan port on the wall) and the other end connect to your switch. It would work. Disable DHCP in your switch and you're good to go.
*
The problem is, the telephone port is on the other side of the wall (Non-TV side of the wall). There is no way, that dragging a long telephone cable to the TV-wall (which I am trying to avoid). Therefore I am unable to place the BTU on the TV-side of the wall cry.gif

Anyway thanks for your feedback, really appreciate it. I am still brainstorming for a solution...2 weeks before the unifi installer going to come...

I'm afraid you'll need two network points where your TV is, one for internet and one for the IPTV. I made the same mistake when I was renovating my house that is I only have one network point where the TV is. Luckily for me, Homeplugs are working.

If you really want the IPTV then one solution is to put everything other than the BTU in the living room and use the only LAN port you have to connect the BTU to the RG. It'll be messy for the living room.

One other option is to use a wireless bridge for the IPTV port but might not be fast or stable enough.

My setup is like this:

Ethernet switch - 2nd Floor
|
Airport Extreme, RG, BTU - 1st Floor
|
Ethernet Switch, IPTV (via Homeplug to RG) - Ground Floor
*
Yeah I forgot to mention that I'm on VDSL2, since im in a condo.

Homeplug are out because they are not on the same phase.

I guess the only option left is wireless? Is it better for me to bridge the IPTV or the internet port? From the looks of it, bridging the internet port might be better?

What I was thinking is whether i can somehow transmit both the VLAN 500 & 600 traffic via the wall port, so that I can do the VLAN 500 and 600 switching on the TV side.

Anyway, anyone figured out what the USB port on the STB is used for?

Personally I would bridge the IPTV as that's not so important to me. I'd prefer max stability and performance for the internet. Wireless-N bridge should be sufficient speed for either but latency will increase. Anyway you can always switch back and forth and see. What speed will your Unifi be?

Is your TV wall the same wall as the telephone jack wall? If it is, how about drilling a small hole and putting an ethernet cable through it.
*
QUOTE(kimyee73 @ Dec 19 2011, 04:45 PM)
Are you able to switch the phone port to the other side of the wall by drilling thru the wall at the phone location and create a new phone port on the other side of the wall? If you able to do that, will solve your problem.
*
Nope the phone jack is not on the same wall as the TV. I just finished renovating my house and painted less than 1 year...if possible i don't want to drill sommore sweat.gif .

my package is VIP5.

Hmmm another though...are our STB DLNA/media server capable?

I think wifi bridge seems to be the only choice.

Here's a crazy idea. I've always asked myself this. As you probably know, Ethernet cables have 8 pairs of wires of which only 4 pairs are used for a network point. Is it possible to use the unused wires for a 2nd network point? I know they do this for telephones but is it possible for Ethernet? Or will the interference be too much?
*
Not very possible for my case as my network port is Gigabit ethernet, unless i wan downgrade my ports to megabit ethernet...

I can probably give it a try with normal ethernet cable and see....then maybe i can make some sort of a customzied patch panel....thanks for the idea! thumbup.gif

Cross talk should be minimal as majority of the cable are still twisted, and essentially the signal is still ethernet signals....

I'm going to have hell trying to squueze 4 wires instead of the usual 8... shocking.gif
Now where is my network crimper...

I'll let you all know once I try it... laugh.gif

In that case VLAN trunking is exactly what you need. klseet has the detail about it but you need to spend more $$ loh.

Sorry... I didn't know that kind of setup before. But it's kinda expensive, for the RB750. Get 8960 if you want wifi. Else, get 250 if you don't need.
*
RB750 is around RM299 izzit...? I was initially planning to get the ASUS n56U... If RB750 + 615 can solve my problem...I think i will use this first for now....

So most importantly is I look for a router that support vlan trunking?

TM just called me again...ask me if im interested to apply Unifi ... I told them yes yes they promised to send me a confirmation email in 24 hours and set appointment within next week... They told me that phone application do not require us to send IC to them as they already got our records in their system. They will record the conversation as "agreement" to applying unifi.

They told me that the free 1 month viewing of premium channel is until end of this month, not available anymore in January. is that true?

Sg Long no probs the whole day. I've been getting download complete notifications from jdownloader since I left this afternoon. Last one was 7 mins ago.

Do you get the free 1 mth sub? If not, why didn't you apply online? How do you choose your tel phone no? Do they give you choices over the phone?

Sorry for the barrage of questions. Just want to understand more about the various application venues.

Btw, have you got your Mikrotik yet?

I'm looking high n low for the RB750 but cannot find. CZone at LYP has plenty of RB250 though.
*
No I did not get the free 1 month. The TM person did tell me that walk in application and phone application will get higher priority as online application does not get updated in real time.

Yes I get to choose my own phone number. You can ask the TM person to suggest to you or u can list down ur numbers and see if its available. It took 20 mins for me to choose my number.

I havent get the 750 yet. I'm planning to try out the "crazy" idea first. If it works, all I need is just another normal hub/switch at my TV wall whistling.gif .

The TM person reminded me NOT to pay the contractor anything. Whatever extra chargable bills will be charged in my unifi bill accordingly.

Also, AFAIK bill postage will cost extra RM8. However the TM person told me its actually free....anyone can clarify this?

Ooo just received my confirmation slip together with all my usernames and passwords...wow...
