Heard about mechanical keyboard for sometime, but have not tried one. The other way went into a PC shop and saw the Razer Black Widow on display, knowing its a mechanical keyboard I went to test and man, love it!

Planning to grab one of these! Any recommendations? Budget about RM300~RM400 or I'll need to fork out more? Is there any obvious choices? Like maybe Logitech G700 for mouse for example?

Erm, provided you had the budget, then there is an "obvious brand" which you probably won't go wrong at - FILCO(though you need to fork out another RM50-100 over your budget for it). It is consider a premium brand in Mechanical Keyboard(Cherry MX switch).

If you want it to be cheaper or particularly in need of RED switch, try getting Leopold, from ahem ahem, visit first page for details. If you want to go for even more plain and compact looks, Ducky are your way. Ducky also having BackLit option.

What you "may" go wrong at is the type of switch to choose, namely RED, BLUE, BLACK and BROWN.

For FPS style of gaming, many ppl gone for black and red due to the linearity(which mean you press smoothly down) that provide immediate action.

For RTS style of gaming, most ppl prefer having "tactile" feedback, which is absence in the RED and BLACK just now. Blue and Brown is both tactile.

The one you tried on Razer is Blue, distinguishably known by the ticking sound it made.

For more information on the switch, visit the first page.

Ah, so the BW is the blue switch. It was my first time trying on a mechanical keyboard, and kinda like the BW. But as usual, Razor stuffs is err... overpriced... and this is one of their first mechanical keyboard which is why I'm asking for suggestions for the other expert brands in mechanical keyboard.

I use my keyboard for typing most of the time... rarely game much nowadays, blue switch should suit me? or should I be going with brown instead?

Getting a Leopold FC500 from TS is another good choice, I got mine from him & it's one of my favorite  thumbup.gif
but beware of all the poison here because it will drive you to go for more  sweat.gif

Nice, will consider this biggrin.gif. How's the quality, build etc?

Feeling really itchy to grab a new keyboard... the other day was wiping my OCZ Illuminati Alchemy... the rubber keycaps gets really sticky and wearing off ._.

Wanted a Leopold brown switch... but seems like no stock and I'm getting impatient lol... thinking to grab a Ducky DK9008S... any recommended sellers? any pros and cons compared to a Leopold FC500 brown switch? or I should be considering a Filco instead... Side note, these keyboards, don't come with rubber keycaps right...? :S

AFAIK, they don't come with rubber keycaps. I'm using a Filco and I've tried the Ducky Shine and they both do not have rubber keycap.

I think the only one I know with rubber keycap is the Razer Black Widow Ultimate.
*
I'm avoiding rubber key cap at all cost now >_<

How does the Filco compare to a Ducky?

I'm currently deciding between a Filco Majestouch 2 (Brown switch) and Ducky DK9008S - Shining N-Key Rollover Mechanical Keyboard (Brown Switch). I'm leaning towards the Ducky as it is a little cheaper, comes with lights and multimedia keys, but I'm new in this is there anything from the Filco that I should also consider? I want one that will last. ~RM479 vs ~RM439 :S.

No offense, but what is rubber keycap. because i never heard of rubber keycap before.

The keycap from Razer Blackwidow are transparent ABS with Color coat, and then Lasered to get the letter/font.

Every backlit keyboard uses those Keycap for attain the effect for backlit light to pass thru the keyboard legend/letter words.

i think he probably meant rubber coated.

Sorry Cyclonechuah, what I meant was rubber coated. I'm bad at these terms, pardon me. Thanks Everdying!

U can get ur 9008s at many places.
Lowyat - czone
ss2 - TSB
SUBANGA JAYA - moderno
Serdang - CEX
and many places. Depend where u stay
*
I'm from Melaka... so basically will get it through postage anyways =/

QUOTE(storm88 @ Jan 16 2012, 09:43 PM)
Some says filco always the best choice, some say ducky more than enough. Some say bla bla bla...

So its all depend on urself which suit u more
*
Ahh, dang tough part is I can't get to try those keyboards... my choices is now only RM479 versus RM439... RM40 apart... I know Filco is a premium brand... but the Ducky 9008s isn't that cheap either... worth going for the Dusky instead of Filco? Or Filco is still the best to go for... any QC issues with these?

Well, i think you need to compare between Filco and Ducky 9008G2 rather than 9008S. 9008S has back lid which the "features" overtake standard Filco keyboards.

now, 9008G2 PBT edition around RM420 only

Added on January 17, 2012, 10:28 am
which one is IBM? left or right?
*
Ducky 9008G2 PBT Brown switch is RM419 where else the 9008S is RM439 right? I would definitely pay for the extras given that sort of price differences... now just thinking if the Filco Majestouch 2 is worth considering?

Ah just noticed, 9008S is using ABS and not PBT... is the differences critical?

but one of the description worries me...
"rubber coated keyboard body"

i despise the rubber coating thingy.... sad.gif

I'm staying away from these rubber coating keyboards since my first and last one... OCZ Alchemy Illuminati >_< the rubber peels off so easily :S... Gonna say hello to my Ducky soon biggrin.gif...

Hi

Rexeived quite numbers of enquiry about the wristrest, so have to make some clarification here.

The 9008S aka ducky shining new packaging will enclosed with wristrest. Meanwhile the wristrest is not locked in, that means you can use it or keep it in the box.

Wonder how does it look alike? Its look alike to steelseries that one.

Any question feel free to ask.
*
Comes with the same price tag? RM439?

Really facepalm, just paid and placed my order with Cex sad.gif

Don't worry la. Any ducky shining purchased within this year, you eligible to redeem it later from your respective dealer smile.gif

Just for confirmation, the new 2012 packaging comes the usual RM439 price tag or a higher price tag? Referring to Ducky Shine 9008s Brown switch.

Just received my keyboard and hooked it up biggrin.gif. Now I'm thinking should I just run it on USB or use PS/2... cause I don't game much anyways, doubt I've ever used more than 6 keys in a go.

My newest toy, and most expensive keyboard I've purchased up to now LOL.

Love mechanical keyboard, the feel is very different. But need to get used to it cause I'm still 'flooring' it like using my previous dome type.

bro i used a brown filco before.
After reading some reviews, i decided to try out red switch.
So since there's no more red filco, i got the closest.
A red ducky shining.
The feel is totally different.

To me the brown fits better for typing.
And the red is better for my gaming session.

and somehow i type faster with the red. But i like the feel of the brown.

my feel about red and brown.

And yeah i agree....black is very the hard!
maybe getting another red soon! biggrin.gif

Added on February 2, 2012, 9:48 pmBtw the RED light on the red switch ducky shining is awesome!

Nice red, I like the red LED a lot... but I got the blue so it would match with my S730's controller's screen.. biggrin.gif matches with my system since my monitor's power button is blue too. So far trying to get use to the brown switch. Loving it!

actually I wonder what does the force needed for mechanical keyboard stands for? like 45g?? I tot the unit for force is Newton? @@ or it simply mean 45 times gravitational acceleration?
*
45 gram... meaning 0.045kg*gravity-> 0.45N roughly.

Question to the Ducky 9008s users, the USB cable I routed it to one of the sides, but it seems to be 'dropping' out from the slot... do you face the same issue as me? or yours stays inside? its on the edge where there's no holders.

Question for Ducky owners, I'm using my brand new Ducky less than 1 week so far. Noticed the space bar having uneven surface (chip marks???). Initially I noticed have 1, now another one appeared... I'm a guy and don't have long nails... don't think I chipped it.

Its small though, but is this common? So far only notice this on the space bar and not yet on the other keys.
