Oic, luckily didn't buy 1st. haha. finally got mine mech kb. haha. just received it

What stated above is correct.

A normal ps/2 NKRO mechanical keyboard if used USB adapter will only achieve 6KRO. Thats also the reason you will see those mechanical kbs stating ps/2 NKRO, USB 6KRO.

However, there is some more complicated cases:
1. Deck Legend which is ps/2 NKRO and USB 6KRO doesn't allow the use of adapter. Which mean the ps/2 model can't be used onto computers without ps/2 ports.

2. Razer BW is a USB 2KRO keyboard which doesn't allow the use of adapter too. You are limited to using USB.

3. Modern China/Taiwan made board such as Noppo Choc Mini, Ducky G2 and Keycool 87 are ps/2 and USB NKRO.

so wads your recommendation that do not exceed rm200

LOL RM200, really tight budget.
Maybe you can "test water" with DuckyXM series first? You also don't having much others choice(except you consider importing small/mini/tkl keyboards from China).

Preferably at least RM300, you can get more choices of Cherry MX keyboard with it.

Though if you need for a fullsize keyboard(104 keys, not mini/tenkeyless), better to be RM350 or more.

Wanna ask if my friend wanna send me keyboard from taiwan via courier, how should he pack it to avoid break?
the keyboard should wrap with what?

Accidenly saw this while googling:
Counter strike key cap, looks cute..LOL...
*
As stated by kaiserreich, bubble warp(the thing similar to that inside JACOB cracker) it.

My purchase from Taobao last time the seller(and the courier in China, 顺风) are generous enough to warp my keyboard with a bubble warp as large as a blanket. shocking.gif The outcome is perfect without a single damage/dent to even the box.

On the keycaps part, such keycaps can be found from Taobao too. Though not necessarily available(with stock) or the design is different.

hello everyone  biggrin.gif

long time no see, dudes.

I'd buy a new keyboard ,ducky DK9008G2 red switch biggrin.gif

after filco brown, im interested about red switch, tats why i buy ducky red !

ok lets share my pictures.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

1. the keycaps really looks like dirty one = =
2. red switch not really as good as ppl saying. but im still enjoy it. such a good switch.
3. keyboard comes with PBT material keycaps. dunid to order from taobao and wait for shipment. whistling.gif
4. Shift, spacebar, capslock, enter and other big keys are not being crispy like filco. maybe becoz of (satellite axis)? i duno how to spell tis, correct me if i made a mistake.
5. no ghosting under USB/PS-2.  thumbup.gif  can use @ laptop biggrin.gif
6. Red color box, looks nice.

btw, it is worth buying. Compare to filco, both also nice keyboard.
*
Spoiler or resize your pictures will be better... sweat.gif

1. Brown fonts, AKA burn mark of black PBT.
2. Linear(+ light) switch for sure will feel weird when you first try it. Use it for longer time and you may start enjoy it.
3. Colored PBT how? brows.gif
4. Cherry style of stabiliser(AKA fake switch), easier for removal(to swap keycaps) but feel stiffer and weirder.
5. USB NKRO, free to test if any "ghosting"?(KRO =/= no ghosting)
6. agree

Harro,

I cannot decide between the CM Storm Quick Fire Rapid Red and the Ducky DK9008G2 Red keyboard. Both price difference are around RM100. Initially thought the Ducky Red Switch was a shine model (Full back light), turns out only the Brown and Blue switches are backlighted.

Brown switches requires 45g of force but brute for may reach up to 55g right? I don't understand about the brute force, Black switches are 60g, makes it only 5g difference if we were to compare brute force. Currently Black switches are too hard to me, I need a softer switch.

Any suggestions? smile.gif
*
Decide it by whether you can a smaller(tenkeyless) keyboard or fullsize. whistling.gif BTW, ducky shine do had RED switch model too. Not sure if Malaysia distributor bring it in, details need to ask Storm88 himself to be more accurate.

You should study the force graph of cherry switch on the 1st page to get what it mean. It should work like spring, starting soft and gradually becoming stiffer.

For the soft switch part, brown/red should be (soft) more than enough for your need, depend mainly on whether you want linear or tactile switch. If by anycase they aren't soft enough, than sadly your only choice probably only Realforce full 30g... sweat.gif

actually I wonder what does the force needed for mechanical keyboard stands for? like 45g?? I tot the unit for force is Newton? @@ or it simply mean 45 times gravitational acceleration?
*
Go GeekHack and search for "RIPOMETER". It should give you an idea of why we stated so.

In short, it is measured(non official) by placing weights(coins) on the key till it depress and then register in your computer.

For official measurement, I guess they are using devices like depressing gauge meter.

1. The one I stated is 37keys only, not full(104) keys.
2. The one I stated is ABS, not PBT.
3. The one you purchased is dyed, which also mean you should pay for the workmanship.

Both value and also serve(durability) different.

I'm still trying to convince myself for a mechanical keyboard.
These are my requirements:
- LED Backlight
- Not ridiculously loud, Black/Red/Brown switch (NO Blue please!)
- Macro is a must, I play MMORPG
- Full Mechanical, not half not tenkeyless
- Good design

The closest match now is Corsair K90, but it is not full mechanical, top row and pgupdownhmendinsdel are not mechanical. Don't really like the design too =.=
*
1. Buy a Razer BWU and soft hardmod it into black/brown/red
2. Buy a ducky shine and remap the 4 extra multimedia keys into the function you need.
3. Find your way to land your hand on a "Durandale/Tesoro".

@kaysa

I suggest you getting 86U instead if the price is restraining you too much. 86U is certainly cheaper than 87U. In case you want to be safer, getting the Numpad will be even cheaper, though can't deny the price is still stiff. whistling.gif

Getting a secondhand Realforce is somehow rare(impossible in Malaysia). Also I wouldn't suggest getting them too as if somehow the any switches are faulty, fixing them will not be as easy as fixing Cherry MX switch.

I dig thru my parent's house store room and found this keyboard :-
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

I think it is an ancient keyboard during my 80286 era ( 1990-1991 )... it have a PC/AT BIG connector and with a few more digging, I even found a PC/AT to PS/2 connector adapter too..

Behind the keyboard got a switch to choose for 8088/80286 ... Made in Taiwan by Amconics Industry Corp....

Took it home, pull out all the keys and give it a nice cleaning and vacuum out all the dust.. and use a keyboard tester software to test it and ALL the keys still WORKS!!!  rclxms.gif  rclxms.gif

Is this a Cherry MX Blue from the colour of the switch..

This must be the oldest mechanical keyboard on this forum... hehe

Love the clicky feeling and really speed up my typing.. but also speed up my typo...
A questions, are the keycaps ALL compatible, I was thinking of changing the WASD keys to red colour for the fun of it...
*
Probably won't be the oldest keyboard in this forum. whistling.gif
Some ppl here having vintage keyboard fetish. Thus having some vintage keyboard as collection.

Somemore, any IBM Model M should be older than it.

In fact, keyboard first existed as mechanical keyboard. Till the revolution and take over by rubber-dome due to the cheaper to be made to cut cost.

In early years of PC being commercialized(around 80), PC could easily cost over 10k. Keyboard and other computer parts cost over 300-400 around then.
