Awww no wonder! I thought there is FC700R 104 keys. Then my question has ended, I need a full keyboard.
*
Hmm, yeah.

FC500 are full size keyboard which comes with ABS Keycap, The Free Blank Keycap are actually a promotion. =X

FC700 are tenkeyless keyboard(no number pad) which comes with PBT Keycap.

So, both of them are not the same.

@kaiserreich, well i have to agree with you, some people might just type over the membrane cover. but i think the membrane cover is a nice to have and would be better than previous plastic cover which needed to handle with care without bending and breaking it.

From what my view is, plate-mounted serve as a reinforcement for the keyboard PCB Board, because if you did typing on the keyboard without the plate, the PCB would flex on the middle of the keyboard.

But this problem can be fix by applying more support under the PCB Board as well as additional screw hole to allow the PCB Board to be more firm and stable.

Let's take it like this.
With Plate-mounted, less screw hole on PCB board and less foundation on the Casing.
Without Plate-mounted, Casing would require more foundation to support the PCB board, PCB Board itself also needs a few more screw hole to install on casing without flexing issue.

i don't think all plastic would be easy to be yellowish, unless you talk about 5 years or 10 years. or you put it under the sun whistling.gif whistling.gif

USB 3.0 perhaps? although i'm not even familiar with that technology :/
but having a controller mod that allows 6KRO or lower keyboards to become 38KRO, it's like seeing an oasis in the middle of the Sahara Desert ( i have no idea why im saying this lol )
*
do noted that it require quite a lot effort to mod a keyboard to be compatible with that specific controller, since each controller controls the keyboard differently, it would require the keyboard to be rewired to be able to use the new controller.

From what i read, it seems to to programmed to halt all stuff from running in the CPU just for the input, i wonder that concept will work or not, what will happen if we press and hold the key?

Plus, it won't be cheap from what he said.

Looks like we found another which functions like Chameleon controller. But Chameleon controller are NKRO under USB if what i remember is correct.

Hmm, you sure it cost 300$? hmm.gif
AFAIK, the most seek after IBM Model M is IBM SSK(TKL). It can easily cost over 100 for normal used and 200-300 for extremely new condition.

The M13 is actually quite common in Taobao. Normally cost only around 200RMB(RM100).

Hmm, new KBC forum?

yes, since they moved their server to China from HK, it's kinda old news already. =X

1000 is about right, but still lacking texture by a bit.
I guess the only way to get texture is to kuih kepit the keycap with pre-textured hot press or something. laugh.gif
*
i'm using 250 grit sand paper to sand it in circular motion, trying to get the texture on the keycap. yet, 250 grit in circular motion sanding still lack of the texture i wanted.

I did try 400, and then 800, but the surface would be too smooth without any texture plus very fast to wears off(become shiny back)

when i sand with 250 grit, a lot of effort needed to put into applying just the right pressure on sanding to prevent the sandpaper to scratch too deep. Somehow i successed doing it on my Shiny space bar.

I've been doing only for training purpose to master before providing sanding service to users.

No matter how i do sanding with just sandpaper, i still couldn't get the texture that attain by sand blast. Maybe i should just purchase a sand blast gun instead. cry.gif cry.gif cry.gif

no cam @@ and I am not good at making evenly spread rough surface on anything.

But when plastics sanding are concerned,
i think the best place to ask is the hobby model toy shops right?
there is one in the Lowyat plaza?
and a few in the Time square.
I think there is  few topics are about pvc and scaled car modeling in the lowyat forum?
*
the one they teach are using sand grit of 400, then 800, and then 1500 for finishing.

What i want would be a textured surface, not mirror surface.

Btw, For your information, Leopold has always use square shape LED for quite some times already, my FC200R is one of them.

Cool, indeed Leopold FC700R also having the square shaped LED. It seems to be confirmed of the same OEM.

Though, I still hold hopes that it will escape the offset issue of Keycool. For which it's casing and steel plate are actually different(and may be the screw location too).

On the contrary, we not really in need of mirror surface, LOL...

We still hope for some rough(for not too rough) textures.
*
my sample are coming in, hopefully, there won't be any delay, i'll post more information when i receive them.

Btw, don't keeps your hope high, mainly because the one that i receive are sample unit which is the same as the link you provided.

From what they told me, it has been improved, and currently now, first batch of FC700 is currently in shipment proceeding to Korea from manufacturer as we're talking. In the next few weeks, there will be the official keyboard feedback which is not the sample.

why brasso? since we're not doing a mirror like finish. If it's that, 2000 grit + polish will do the trick.

By using brasso, u can make ur caps either matte finished, or mirror finished. 2000 paper it won't give that nice enough's finish.
But it's personal la, if you like mirror alike, then u should polish it. If you feel the outcome of sanding by 2000 grit paper is enough, then it's also fine wink.gif
*
i see, thanks for the info, i'll go google more about brasso and trying to get matte finish.

AFAIK, they don't come with rubber keycaps. I'm using a Filco and I've tried the Ducky Shine and they both do not have rubber keycap.

I think the only one I know with rubber keycap is the Razer Black Widow Ultimate.
*
No offense, but what is rubber keycap. because i never heard of rubber keycap before.

The keycap from Razer Blackwidow are transparent ABS with Color coat, and then Lasered to get the letter/font.

Every backlit keyboard uses those Keycap for attain the effect for backlit light to pass thru the keyboard legend/letter words.

Filco = premium stuff
Whether worth to pay for a premium stuff, it is a subjective question with no definite answer. Though, for those who can afford it and bought it, so far nobody actually reported to regret about it.

For Ducky, it isn't exactly the top notch built quality(though most normal and not extremely picky users should find it more than enough). If you faced DOA, do your warranty claim then. If you like the features(USB NKRO, Multimedia keys, simple and sophisticated design), then it still worth to go for it(Ducky).
For ABS vs PBT part, it should not be the deciding factor here.
Backlit keycaps for sure is ABS(mostly) and PBT cannot be made into BL keycaps. Also, the feel and resistant to shine on BL keycaps isn't decided by the ABS part but the black coating/painting on it.

In short, if you want peace of mind and top notch quality, go for FILCO.
If you want more features(BL, USB NKRO, Multimedia keys) or more durable keycaps(Ducky PBT), go for Ducky.
*

Try Dremel at the Garage Sales.
It aint cheap, but it does look great.

The Bosch/B&D drills at does look great, and at Rm250 - 300, the do look decent. I was looking for these since I wanted to do a Model M Bolt Mod, but i never follow through with it.

Might need a drill stand with it since they are so huge, and if you need precision.
*
no prob, thanks for providing info. Going to earn extra funds to buy these equipment for modding purpose, gonna ready up all the equipment first. =)
