Today we have word from UK publisher Lace Black Mamba that Frozenbyte's upcoming fantasy platforming sequel Trine 2 will be releasing for PC this December 6th in the US and December 9th in Europe. The retail version of the game, at least for those lucky sods on the other side of the pond, will be packaged like a collector's edition that also includes a Steam key for the original Trine, soundtrack CD, and art book.

There doesn't seem to be any information on boxed copies coming to North America (ATLUS is only doing the console versions), so your only avenue may be to buy it digitally on Steam, at least for now. Doing so before it's released will gain you access to the playable multiplayer beta version, though, so you can try out Trine 2's new online cooperative gameplay.

Trine 2 is coming to PC, Mac, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in downloadable form in North America and Europe this year -- which makes the Europe-exclusive physical collector's edition of Trine 2 that much more, well, collectable. Focus Home Interactive is releasing the IRL collector's edition in Europe, which includes the game for both PC and Mac, an art book, the soundtrack, and access to downloadable versions of Trine 2 and the original Trine. It will cost €19.99 (£14.99 in U.K.).

I wonder, is the game set very much later after the conclusion of first game? I notice wizard is now very... old. See his icon on top left

Frozenbyte has announced that the Steam version of Trine 2 will support cross-platform multiplayer between PC and Mac gamers, thanks to Steam Play.

"The cross-platform multiplayer between Windows and Mac makes it easier to find people to play with, allowing everyone to enjoy the full co-op potential of the beta and the upcoming game," stated Lauri Hyvärinen, CEO of the Finnish development house.

The press release also announced that the two-level PC beta now supports nVidia 3D Vision. "Trine 2 looks stunning with 3D Vision. We knew it was going to be good but it really caught us by a surprise just how great it looks. Trine 2 has been built in full 3D, and while some of this may go unnoticed when the game is played normally, 3D Vision makes it pop out in a way that is just amazing," Hyvärinen stated.

Trine 2 is currently available for pre-purchase now on Steam and other digital distributors, including GamersGate and soon Direct2Drive. The regular edition is priced at $14.99/12.99 euros/11.99 pounds. The Collector's Edition is available for $24.99/19.99 euros/17.99 pounds. The Collector's Edition includes a digital artbook with developer commentary and the original soundtrack by composer Ari Pulkkinen. All versions will use Steamworks regardless of distributor.

I thought the collector edition will include trine 1 as well, but no?

Focus Home Interactive is releasing the retail, physical copy of the PC/Mac Trine 2 Collector's Edition in Europe this week. The retail Collector's Edition includes the beautiful physical artbook and the digital version of the soundtrack.

Frozenbyte has announced that the official Trine 2 Soundtrack is now available on iTunes or directly from composer Ari Pulkkinen's official site, AriTunes. The Trine 2 Soundtrack Special Edition features all the tracks from the game and 2 brand new orchestra versions recorded with the Brandenburg State Orchestra.

Ari Pulkkinen is best known for doing the soundtrack for such titles as Angry Birds, Super Stardust HD, Outland, and the original Trine.

"Finally! I'm very proud of the music for Trine and Trine 2; the beautiful and heartwarming fantasy world of Trine really inspired me to compose these lively soundtracks, and I'm really glad they can now reach a wider audience as separate albums. For this special moment I also wanted to create orchestrated versions of the Trine 2 Main Theme and the Trailer Theme, and they sound absolutely fantastic!", beamed composer Pulkkinen.

Trine 2 Soundtrack Special Edition costs $11.99/11,99 euros, which is slightly less than the game's retail price, $14.99/12.99 euros.

Trine 2′s luscious backdrops might be the best thing about it. Each one feels carefully posed, as though its creators have spent hours snipping away at it delicately like a Bonsai tree. Snowy mountain tops, burning castles and glowing deserts will feature in the upcoming, unnamed, unpriced expansion pack. It’ll contain six new levels, new enemies to fight and a new “hardcore” difficulty level.

Frozenbyte are calling it an “AAAA” expansion, saying “we prefer to steer away from the “DLC” concept. So many negative associations with that these days.” Except now I associate their expansion with a tiny battery, which probably isn’t what they were going for. Frozenbyte has announced the release date for the expansion Trine 2: Goblin Menace. The expansion, which features an all-new campaign with six levels and new skills that can be used with the original game, will be available on the 6th September with a $7.99/6.99 EUR price tag.

Trine 2 has also been given a 2 GB patch in preparation for the expansion, so that the original game will compatible with the expansion for multiplayer.

Finally, the Trine 2: Collector's Edition owners on Steam will get taccess to a beta version of the expansion, including the first 2 levels. The beta will end after the game's release on the 6th.

You read correctly! We’re finally releasing our Frozenbyte Editor for both of the Trine games. As we did with Trine Enchanted Edition, this first editor release is a public BETA, and will be behind a password.

The reason we’ve held off releasing the editor to the public before has been quite simple. It’s pretty difficult to use if you don’t know what you’re doing, and there’s *very* little documentation or tooltips.

So did we make an easy-to-use version for everyone to enjoy? The answer to that is…not really Instead we’ve opened a wiki page at www.frozenbyte.com/wiki and provided some very basic instructions on how to use our editor. It’s an open wiki after you’ve registered, so anyone can edit and post information, and we hope that people will start to share their knowledge with everyone. We’ll also be updating the wiki ourselves and tracking that all the instructions are correct and up-to-date.
