Beta is already out. You can get it by pre-purchasing the game on Steam.

Official release will be sometime in December.

Trine 2 release date and collector's edition

QUOTE
Today we have word from UK publisher Lace Black Mamba that Frozenbyte's upcoming fantasy platforming sequel Trine 2 will be releasing for PC this December 6th in the US and December 9th in Europe. The retail version of the game, at least for those lucky sods on the other side of the pond, will be packaged like a collector's edition that also includes a Steam key for the original Trine, soundtrack CD, and art book.

There doesn't seem to be any information on boxed copies coming to North America (ATLUS is only doing the console versions), so your only avenue may be to buy it digitally on Steam, at least for now. Doing so before it's released will gain you access to the playable multiplayer beta version, though, so you can try out Trine 2's new online cooperative gameplay.

I've been looking forward to this game more than Skyrim, BF3 and MW3. biggrin.gif

Right now I listen to the Trine 2 main theme everyday. I can't wait for the entire soundtrack to be released.

I've pre-purchased Trine 2 and I am now playing the Beta.

First thing you'll notice about the game is the new start screen. In the first Trine game, it's just a static image. But now it's a dynamically rendered screen where you can play around with Thief before you click Start. smile.gif

Trine 2's European collector's edition comes in physical form

user posted image
QUOTE
Trine 2 is coming to PC, Mac, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in downloadable form in North America and Europe this year -- which makes the Europe-exclusive physical collector's edition of Trine 2 that much more, well, collectable. Focus Home Interactive is releasing the IRL collector's edition in Europe, which includes the game for both PC and Mac, an art book, the soundtrack, and access to downloadable versions of Trine 2 and the original Trine. It will cost €19.99 (£14.99 in U.K.).

For those of you who purchase via Steam the Trine 2 Collector's Edition, or the Collector's Edition Upgrade (for pre-purchase players), will get a digital version of the artbook.

However if you try to upgrade your existing Trine 2 Beta now, as I did, you'll get an error saying you already own the CE version. FrozenByte has stated in this Steam thread that they are aware of this problem and that Valve will sort it out later, probably when Trine 2 officially launches.

Also apparently any achievements you get now in the Beta will not be carried forward to the Trine 2 actual game. This is because they are considered separate games (like TF2 and TF2 Beta), so don't work too hard on those achievements yet. wink.gif

Trine 2 gets PC/Mac crossplatform play

user posted image

QUOTE
Frozenbyte has announced that the Steam version of Trine 2 will support cross-platform multiplayer between PC and Mac gamers, thanks to Steam Play.

"The cross-platform multiplayer between Windows and Mac makes it easier to find people to play with, allowing everyone to enjoy the full co-op potential of the beta and the upcoming game," stated Lauri Hyvärinen, CEO of the Finnish development house.

The press release also announced that the two-level PC beta now supports nVidia 3D Vision. "Trine 2 looks stunning with 3D Vision. We knew it was going to be good but it really caught us by a surprise just how great it looks. Trine 2 has been built in full 3D, and while some of this may go unnoticed when the game is played normally, 3D Vision makes it pop out in a way that is just amazing," Hyvärinen stated.

Trine 2 is currently available for pre-purchase now on Steam and other digital distributors, including GamersGate and soon Direct2Drive. The regular edition is priced at $14.99/12.99 euros/11.99 pounds. The Collector's Edition is available for $24.99/19.99 euros/17.99 pounds. The Collector's Edition includes a digital artbook with developer commentary and the original soundtrack by composer Ari Pulkkinen. All versions will use Steamworks regardless of distributor.

Gamers willing to wait can also enjoy a DRM free version of Trine 2 later in 2012, which presumably will be available from Good Old Games (GOG.com).

I don't really care about 3D vision even though Nvidia's latest driver updates all seem to be mostly about enhancing 3D Vision.

Console versions will follow starting from December 20

Helsinki, Finland - 5 December 2011 - Finnish game developer Frozenbyte is pleased to announce that the Steam and PC/Mac retail versions of Trine 2 will be released on December 7th, 2011.

"FINALLY!" says Lauri Hyvärinen, CEO of Frozenbyte, but continues: "Alas, fans will have to wait a little longer for the console versions. Trine 2 will be available in North America for PlayStation 3 system via PlayStation®Network on December 20, and worldwide for Xbox 360 system via Xbox LIVE Marketplace on December 21. A European release date for the PS3 system version of Trine 2 is still awaiting confirmation but we hope it won't be far behind if delayed at all. The console releases might be arriving a bit later, but they are still in time for the holidays!"

Trine 2 is available for pre-purchase now on Steam and other channels, including GamersGate and Direct2Drive. The regular edition is priced at $14.99/12.99 euros/11.99 pounds. The Collector's Edition is available for $24.99/19.99 euros/17.99 pounds. The Collector's Edition includes a digital artbook with developer commentary and the original soundtrack by the acclaimed composer Ari Pulkkinen. All PC/Mac versions use Steamworks for easy multiplayer, Achievements, Steam Cloud and Steam Play support. A DRM free version of Trine 2 is coming in 2012.

Focus Home Interactive is releasing the retail, physical copy of the PC/Mac Trine 2 Collector's Edition in Europe this week. The retail Collector's Edition includes the beautiful physical artbook and the digital version of the soundtrack.

Trine 2 is set for December 7 release on Steam for PC/Mac, December 21 for Xbox LIVE® Arcade for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, December 21 in North America and later in December in Europe for PlayStation®Network for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, later in 2011 in the Mac App Store for Mac, and in 2012 for Linux.

Trine 2 soundtrack now available for purchase

user posted image
QUOTE
Frozenbyte has announced that the official Trine 2 Soundtrack is now available on iTunes or directly from composer Ari Pulkkinen's official site, AriTunes. The Trine 2 Soundtrack Special Edition features all the tracks from the game and 2 brand new orchestra versions recorded with the Brandenburg State Orchestra.

Ari Pulkkinen is best known for doing the soundtrack for such titles as Angry Birds, Super Stardust HD, Outland, and the original Trine.

"Finally! I'm very proud of the music for Trine and Trine 2; the beautiful and heartwarming fantasy world of Trine really inspired me to compose these lively soundtracks, and I'm really glad they can now reach a wider audience as separate albums. For this special moment I also wanted to create orchestrated versions of the Trine 2 Main Theme and the Trailer Theme, and they sound absolutely fantastic!", beamed composer Pulkkinen.

Trine 2 Soundtrack Special Edition costs $11.99/11,99 euros, which is slightly less than the game's retail price, $14.99/12.99 euros.

Check out one of the bonus tracks from the soundtrack in the video below.

Trine 2 trailer teases “AAAA” expansion environments

QUOTE
Trine 2′s luscious backdrops might be the best thing about it. Each one feels carefully posed, as though its creators have spent hours snipping away at it delicately like a Bonsai tree. Snowy mountain tops, burning castles and glowing deserts will feature in the upcoming, unnamed, unpriced expansion pack. It’ll contain six new levels, new enemies to fight and a new “hardcore” difficulty level.

Frozenbyte are calling it an “AAAA” expansion, saying “we prefer to steer away from the “DLC” concept. So many negative associations with that these days.” Except now I associate their expansion with a tiny battery, which probably isn’t what they were going for. Keep an eye on the Trine 2 site for more details.

Hope they won't price the expansion too expensive. The main game could be completed quite quickly, including the achievements.

Yeah I was shocked to see a 1+GB update.

But I haven't downloaded it complete since it's still Beta. I'll wait until it becomes officially released then continue updating.

I really need to get back to Trine 2 and finish the new achievements... right after I complete the Skyrim ones... but Hearthfire for Skyrim is coming out soon...

Any solutions for the start-up whereby you can't even start the game through Steam?

It's fine. Fantastic game. I think restarting the PC and it'll auto update certain file integrity or something. Played nicely. Funny co-op game.

Key is collecting as much XP as possible to level up the skills. Wizard has the most important skills for getting past puzzles. I managed to complete Trine 2 and Goblin Menace with single-player.

You read correctly! We’re finally releasing our Frozenbyte Editor for both of the Trine games. As we did with Trine Enchanted Edition, this first editor release is a public BETA, and will be behind a password.

The reason we’ve held off releasing the editor to the public before has been quite simple. It’s pretty difficult to use if you don’t know what you’re doing, and there’s *very* little documentation or tooltips.

t1_editor_blogpost

So did we make an easy-to-use version for everyone to enjoy? The answer to that is…not really smile.gif Instead we’ve opened a wiki page at www.frozenbyte.com/wiki and provided some very basic instructions on how to use our editor. It’s an open wiki after you’ve registered, so anyone can edit and post information, and we hope that people will start to share their knowledge with everyone. We’ll also be updating the wiki ourselves and tracking that all the instructions are correct and up-to-date.

t2_editor_blogpost

The Frozenbyte Editor is a very diverse tool. This is what we use to make games like Trine and Trine 2, and it’s based entirely on our own technology. You can now edit existing maps, make new maps and do all kinds of things with it. If this sounds like fun, go a head and play with the features and experiment!

NOTE: There’s two versions of the editor at the moment, one for Trine Enchanted Edition, and one for Trine 2. You can find instructions for installing each of the editors on our wiki:

Instructions for Installing Trine Enchanted Edition Editor

Instructions for Installing Trine 2 Editor

Please also check that you meet all the hardware and software requirements for using the editor. You can check the requirements on the Hardware and Software Requirements wiki page.

Interesting. But is the Trine community still lots? Might have a try back. Having played both less than an hour due to other games. It's still a beautiful platformer game to me.
