QUOTE(nk3371 @ Dec 2 2013, 08:38 PM) Grab 2 sets of this Basic Tune up set.. Item no. 15435 I rather recommend Basic Tune Up Parts for AR Chassis (item no. 15450) because the 15435 rear mounting is a tad easy to break.![]() Double the front and rear plate for better strength.. Next, ball bearings for wheels, ball bearing rollers, motors, front and rear brakes. Use stock wheels first as the stock medium diameter wheel with the low profile tires are pretty stable. For brakes, try the sponge one first. Bila dah pandai nanti you can try the FRP plate one. |

One thing I really don't understand about online tutorials teaching people to soak bearings into zippo liquid.
Zippo liquid does not have lubricant nor protection properties. It makes ball bearing dry and it could cause wear out bearings. And also breaking in motors, also by soaking it into zippo liquid, or filling in lubes in the whole motor. There is no touching parts besides the contacts inside a dynamo, unlike cylinder based engines. So I'm really skeptical. People please explain to me. Tq. |

QUOTE(tjay_tj @ Dec 3 2013, 09:12 PM) The ar one looks nicer but the 9mm mount easier to break. Either one must stack it or double so that it last longer. lol... i guess both the universal and the ar version have their weakness, both have common place to break. The zippo fluid helps to wash the oil so that ot has less friction internal but at the cost of wearing out the bearing. Oil are sticky hence racer wash it away but it also means the bearing at easier to spoil or stuck |

Anybody using tappered double rollers? Is the tappered design really that significant?

QUOTE(ashrafrahman @ Dec 4 2013, 03:26 PM) this might sound too educational and boring, so ignore this if u hate chemistry I would accept it as a substance to clean metal.basically, zippo liquid is scientifically known/made using naphtha...lightest/most volatile fraction type of hydrocarbon liqiud from petroleum. In contact with metal, this type of liquid may prevent oxidation of iron - process known as Inhibitor/Corrosion inhibitor. It's not seeable to naked eyes, but the present of air n oxygen, iron/metal tend to oxidize = rust = extra friction It's not lubricant but it works to smooth/clean the surface of ball bearing as it's an anti-oxide subtance. In fact, this is used as cleaning solution for watches parts during servicing (different brand/type, not zippo liquid la). I guess there are many other ways to smoothen ball bearing and IMO, logically using zippo liquid is kinda acceptable. correct me if I'm wrong. Friendly reminder: Please use this product with extra precaution. It has lots of side effect when come into contact with human skin. Do not attempt to drink/swallow/inhale the liquid. But most people just follow others, so they don't really understand the after effect. To me, any moving parts especially metal/iron that makes contact needs to be lubricated to ensure its lifespan. Zippo liquid cleans bearings, but afterwards it also creates friction and could wear out the ball bearing. But I guess ball bearings are cheap to replace, so it doesn't matter to most people. |

QUOTE(ashrafrahman @ Dec 4 2013, 03:56 PM) hehehe...cheap to replace? I just use Tamiya fluoropolymer compound. As long as the bearings are smooth and doesn't make sound when rotating, then it's good for me.care to share your method? I do soak my bearings in zippo liquid for cleaning, then spray with SC 99 and apply some singer oil to it (don't know any cheap lubricant yet - newbies I know people likes to free-spin rollers and see how long the spin could last, but on track it doesn't really make any difference because the weight of the car and drag from the motor, and the overall setup like roller size/positioning has more effect. |

QUOTE(szngszng @ Dec 4 2013, 04:13 PM) most ball bearing come with protective grease to prevent it rush, so new bearing usually we will clean it with zippo or contact cleaner to wash out the grease, the grease is good for industrail usage but not for speed purpose like mini 4wd. I like this reply. after cleanning, we will drip some bearing oil, this is important not just the lifespend of the bearing, but it will take more load, and spin faster when it come with force. Most tutorials out there doesn't even tell to re-lube the bearings and just use as it is after dipping into zippo fluid. To me, that is a problem.
