QUOTE(ivan92 @ Oct 31 2011, 06:36 PM) ya... There's no more space along that route.luckily the petrol station is not near the side of the road otherwise... i think they should reroute the railway and implement electric train the current route is too dangerous it's very near to petrol station, hardware factories, shop lots, housing area and military camp Realignment will be hard. Perhaps they should consider elevated line. |

QUOTE(davkong @ Oct 31 2011, 06:40 PM) That's why level crossing should be eliminated, if possible. |

QUOTE(ivan92 @ Oct 31 2011, 06:42 PM) As mentioned in The Star, the train collided with fuel tanker.Meaning, this accident, can be prevent if it is elevated or...............shut down level crossings in busy area, as being done in Klang Valley during KTM Komuter implementation. |

QUOTE(floater_x @ Oct 31 2011, 07:18 PM) not the first time, wont be the last time. when i was staying in KK for a year, i saw at least 3 cases of cars being hit by trains. especially infront of that kkia junction coming out of kepayan. Hopefully something will be done to prevent this from happening again. |

QUOTE(Leonix7791 @ Oct 31 2011, 07:27 PM) ^ I suppose the lorry just pass the road without knowing a train is coming :/ because no1 look after that small road :/ Electrically powered train is only justifiable when you have large passenger number because the startup cost is really high.Thats why i wonder why the local authority still want to use railway train :/ change electric powered train lah I think it is time for the railway to be elevated. This will reduce or eliminate the number of level crossings. |

QUOTE(ZeroSOFInfinity @ Oct 31 2011, 07:35 PM) Damn. That's really bad. Hope no one dies. In peninsular, double tracking projects are going to remove level crossings forever.Like someone has said here, railway crossings are dangerous. It's better to close the crossing and build an overhead bridge for vehicles to pass through safely, such as the one in Kuala Kangsar. |

QUOTE(Leonix7791 @ Oct 31 2011, 07:37 PM) After this incident,i wonder what actions will be taken,i'm sad to see the train engulfed in flame because it always stop every morning nearby my place @_@ Authorities should build elevated line altogether. This will not only eliminate such accidents, but Kota Kinabalu residents will benefit in the sense that they will get a modern commuter railway service, and being elevated means the line can easily extended to the northern areas such as Sepanggar. |

Train horn can be very loud, with distinctive sound.
That's why a lorry driver, can escape in most cases. |

In Klang Valley, accidents on KTM Komuter, involving a car is very rare due to the fact that the line has no level crossings.

Normally in a train operation, the train has first traffic priority (standard procedure).
The onus on ensuring safety on level crossing, lies on the people who man/operate the gates... |

Most news sources (including NST), suggest that it is, the train that hits the tanker rather than the other way round.
