Yes, Is 9100G, I've try everything with changing USB cable...but still doesnt work. now I've to remove the micro SD card to copy it from card reader...really mafan.
*
Try setting->wireless and network->usb utilities-> tap connect storage to PC
S2 will ask you to now plug in your usb cable. Plug in cable then tap connect.
Green android turn to orange. Your PC should now show additional drive letter in explorer.

You can now do file maintenance, as if your S2 is a external hardrive.

Hope this helps.

can i just use root explorer to copy out the whole efs folder as backup?
*
Hi snigapore, I have done exactly that. Using Root Explorer. However, read in some forum, that if doing it this method,
we lost quite a few info, like permission and something else. This make recovery not 100%.
Any sifus here can clarify?

If I remember correctly it have been remove in 2.1 because of too many ways to backup so gokhan thinks it is not necessary. Use hc tool to backup.
*
Thank you so much and also thanks for the link to the hc application to do the backup. Had downloaded it and worked like a charm. The backup has 2 files. One is a .img and the other is .gz

Cheers!

i flash in recovery mode, and from cwm also getting signature verification failed?

i tried with siyah kernel also the same
appearing could not found the zimage but it is inside the zip file
*
Need to extract the zImage file from the zip and place it in your /sdcard.
run your cwm again and it will detect it.
I did mine that way and it went like a breeze.

Oh Sorry, forgot to mention that I use the CWM Manager that came with rooting with CF root rather than going into recovery mode.
With this I could flash kernel but need the zImage file not the zip.
My humble apology for the mis-info.

Morning all,
Just got my first lock out this morning, after flashing Siyah 2.1 yesterday.
Was checking out SetCPU setting , change governor, from Smartass2 to ondemand and tab back button. Went back to home screen and thats it, frozed. Long press on power button did not have effect. Had to remove batt and restart.
Phone back to normal. Isolated but strange. Might not have anything with the kernel. Cheers!

Try yourself. I recommend either siyah or speedmod.
*
I reverted back to Speedmod K2-13. Siyah 2.1 causes 2 screen lockouts within 2 days of flashing. Thats one too many. Have not experience such since I bought the S2. I had rooted to CF XWKI8, which is pretty near to stock. In any case, I noticed slight batt usage deterioration, as compared to Speedmod. So back until I get further positive comment or upgrade in Siyah.

I totally agree on the stability of speedmod. That's why i always recommend it to any user that ask me. But I really like ondemandx on siyah, bootanimation support and I do not like the mdnie tweaks on speedmod. That's why I am still using siyah.
*
Reason for my flashing to Siyah was really for the OC/UV. Thought of trying out and boy! there were just so many options, CPU speed, governors and frequencies. Did tried to change govenor to smartass2 but not long enough to gauge changes. However the lockscreen got to me first. Perhaps that might be the cause of the lockscreen, um!!! I will never know nor knowledgeable enough even to try and figure it out. I am very happy with Speedmod now, good responsive speed, negligible lag in some application but overall, acceptable battery drain. Will stick to this for awhile.

antt00: what does the mdnie tweaks affect? Quite greek to me, being a non techie in this arena.
Also i noted SOD mentioned several times in forum, is that screen of death, like in locked screen, which i had recently experienced? What about BLN? What does this do? Please forgive this noobiness. Trying to learn more, from this forum. Cheers, thanks and Happy long weekend!!

mdnie are screen color tweaks. SOD is sleep of death, meaning your device can't wake up. Its actually your device is trying to process something but do not have enough voltage/cpu speed, so it just hang there and drain your batt.

BLN are led notiication type of thing. Since our device don't have led, some people like to use kernel that support bln with the bln app on the market to use our soft key light to blink when there is miss call, msg, etc.
*
Thanks att00! excellent explanation. I learned a bit more already. Regards

Sometimes u gotta learn how to use google. you cant expect use to spoonfeed u every single basic question u have. read first page or google first,if cant find any info, then come ask. not every simple question also need to ask doh.gif anyways,1650mah is the stock battery for galaxy s2 while 2000mah is the extended one
*
Talking of spoonfeeding, I just made my 2nd mistakes in this forum. I wanted to post a new question in this thread but due to not being familiar, selected "new topic". Now that question had gone into a totally new topic ...real noob!!
Perhaps someone here can show me how to post a new subject/question, rather than just 'replying' to existing post.
Believe me, I had gone to the help page, FAQs but just cannot find how to post a new subject. Again real noob!!
Ya! I know!! but am willing to learn 8-).

Cheers.

Correcting my earlier mistake of creating a new topic. Re-posting it here. Hope this is not another mistake of double posting. If it is, I sincerely apologize.
Came across this custom rom for SG2. Any feedback on issues relating to stability and battery drain appreciated.

just backup your stock rom before u flash custom rom, try as many u want after that stick with that rom u like biggrin.gif
im right now using checkrom hd 2.0 because of kitchen apps so i can manually flash addon that i like and also can try many new theme tongue.gif

QUOTE(antt00 @ Nov 7 2011, 05:03 PM)
Any particular reason why you pick that rom? There are so many in xda. Oh yeah your using i9100 right, not the G version? This is important to know before you go flashing something.
*
Hi people, thanks for the comment. So it seemed like it is still new and untested. I am too much a novice to try this then. Ya! I am using the non G S2.
Reason why it caught my attention was the fact that it had so many features, which I liked, under one package. Morever, it removed a number of unnecessary Samsung applications. Oh the camera mod is also something I was wishing for, ie using the Vol Up/Dn button to snap a photo.

Anyway, I will be monitoring this at their website and see user's experience before I jump.

Thanks again.
Cheers!

Kinda weird people like to keep bickering which one is the better OS. For me just pick the one that suites you and use it. Dun have to go around converting people to use any OS. Apple/Google is not gonna pay you for free advertising.

My feeling exactly. But then, it takes all sort to make this world and personally, I post when in doubt about something, otherwise I read quietly in pleasure, getting to know more from all the sifus here.
Great forum, this is and very fast moving, I must add.
Cheers to all.
