Hi guys! I will get my SGS tonight, already own a SE x10i, rooting at x10 is so much easier, but in SGS, everything is so confusing rclxub.gif , even after I read all the post at 1st,2nd,3rd,4th....... posts, I am still confuse rclxub.gif , I only know something about 3 button combo, Odin, Talon, and some minor stuff, anyone mind to give me a short an easier explanation on:

1. How to root phone?
2. Which is the best recommended custom ROM?
3. Which is the best recommended custom kernel?

Wish someone can help me by providing step by step. biggrin.gif

edit: and mine is AP set, I heard that you have to do some extra steps to get updated with KIES if using AP set, is it true?

1. simply flash a custom kernel you will get root.
2. Still stock is the best
3. Speedmod, talonDev, Semophere are great kernel.

thanks for the reply!

so that means a stock ROM with custom kernel is recommended?

yes. odin is a software to flash your phone. for flashing kernel, just download kernel .tar file and put it into odin PDA section, set your phone into download mode and connect to pc with usd and flash.
*
thanks! I've check your signature too about how to flash ROM using Odin, 1 more thing, how about lagfix? which one is it?

most of the custom kernel already build-in lagfix. after flash kernel, go into recovery to enable it. some of the kernel automatically enable it in the first boot. if its enabled, the first boot will be taking longer time around 20min and you will heard robot or lady sound.
*
I see! thanks! last question, how do I root my phone? simply flash a custom kernel? that's it? I saw there's a program called SuperOneClick Root method, it is recommended to use that way to root? or is there are other methods? and I can flash the custom kernel without plugging in usb to my pc right?

use odin to flash custom kernel. you can only flash custom kernel in cwm if you already on a custom kernel. so for the first time you have to use odin to flash it. forget superoneclick, using it is more risky than flashing a custom kernel.
*
thanks for the advice! biggrin.gif so that means no need root, straight away use odin and flash the kernel, right?

even if it is out, it would be very very expensive!!! imagine if they manage to patent it for themselve, world leading battery producer like Duracell will be in deep trouble!

Those who are interested to flash to 2.3.5 xxjvt please do so only maybe just for fun. I've flashed it yesterday but it was buggy. I only realized the wifi connection which kept dropping and the market was exorbitantly slow. Scrolling wasn't smooth as claimed. A little jerky I could say. I didn't manage to test other settings as I hated the drop in wifi connection (wifi sleep policy to wifi never turn off). In the end, I flashed back to official Malaysia 2.3.3. No problems.
*
what the f***?!??! I am downloading 2.3.5 and you are telling me this cry.gif cry.gif cry.gif cry.gif

Added on November 17, 2011, 11:50 amShould i change my mind and download 2.3.3 now?

Is it xxjvt? It should be the same rite? It kept dropping wifi and the Market was extremely slow. I can't even update my apps. When I switched back to 2.3.3 DXJV9 the wifi was stable and I managed to download all updates with no problems.
*
are you sure you downloaded the correct version? got included PIT file or not when u flash? u flashed europe version or asian version?

edit: ops, checked it already, XXJVT is europe version

Never faced the problem you are facing. Maybe your wifi ap was far away from your phone? Cause mine quite close to me, maybe that's why never drop connection.

So far, I am most satisfied with XXJVT. Good battery life also, especially running on mobile data. smile.gif

fuh.... at least someone reported positive feedback, not I am less worried! rclxm9.gif

The wifi dropping off is a known issue. Need to change your router settings lease time to something that is not forever (i.e. 24hours). Setting a static IP on your phone helps too.

wow!!! just right after I checked your threat at xda, you appear here! the Lord has spoken! notworthy.gif

guys, I've finish download and extracted XXJVT and here's are the files that I unzip

CODE_I9000XXJVT_CL617736_REV03_user_low_ship.tar.md5
GT-I9000-CSC-MULTI-OXAJVT.tar.md5
MODEM_I9000XXJVT_REV_00_CL1064602.tar.md5
GT-I9000-CSC-HOME-MULTI-OXAJVT.tar.md5
s1_odin_20100512.pit

I know that PIT file is put into pit and that CSC file is put into CSC slot, but how about the rest one? where to put? and why there are 2 CSC file? Multi and home CSC files, which one to choose?

I used this:

PIT – s1_odin_20100512.pit
PDA – CODE_I9000XXJVT_CL617736_REV03_user_low_ship.tar.md5,
Phone – MODEM_I9000XXJVT_REV_00_CL1064602.tar.md5,
CSC – GT-I9000-CSC-MULTI-OXAJVT.tar.md5

The package I downloaded does not contain GT-I9000-CSC-HOME-MULTI-OXAJVT.tar.md5.
*
thanks for the reply!! Now I'm scare that if I follow your method, later got wifi problem blink.gif

maybe I should replace it with Home-Multi?
