wow this is an awesome phone for, having a good brand, a good price, and decent specs. puts the competition's entry lvl phones to shame.

I believe they get the slower chips and overclock them.

erm i think its not overclocked one, it is purely rated at 1.4 ghz according to wikipedia, do you have any article saying that its overclocked? curious on this

they use MSM8255 OC so it called MSM8255T "turbo"

W is to replace ACE it fixed the battery life & SOD & some other small tweak.

but XE come with gorilla glass. i'm waiting lotus glass in future.

The T basically means its overclocked from the MSM8225's 1GHz.

Similar scenario with the Galaxy Ace ma. The Ace's proc was rated at 600MHz, but overclocked to 800mhz.

got a point there, since they OC'ed it I wonder if the lifespan will end up shorter for this phone

Most probably can upgrade up to Froyo. Better save the funds and buy a phone that can be upgrade for latest firmware. Atleast dual-core. For Samsung phones, only SGSII and Note will be getting ICS firmware upgrade.
Go for SGSII if you have enough funds as the price is getting cheaper where you can buy new set at RM1600 already ~~just my two cents~~

you can underclock it only with setcpu which requires you to root your phone which officially voids your warranty.

the galaxy W is very fast and responsive as compared to my previous galaxy Ace. definitely a nice budget phone, but in terms of looks, probably not that great. would rate it 6/10 compared to Ace. it feels light and 'cheap', but it's so comfortable to hold. but in terms of performance wise..i would rate it 8.5/10.. it's responsive and fast with the 1.4ghz processor.

btw why u say 6/10 against ace? ace looks better? i thought they look kinda same...

it's lighter than ace. how's the camera?

it kinda feels like plastic type of material, that's why its light. Ace design looks similarly to the iphone. somehow the galaxy W feels lighter..you need to have a look at it and hold it to know what i mean but the performance wise,you won't regret it,trust me. i made the right decision to sell my ace for this. another alternative is S Plus, but i decided to get galaxy W cause it's newly released and cheaper, although i prefer bigger phones. it's really really fast. when you type text msgs, or swipe along the home screen.

I also bought that device. Really feel very cheap, something like a plastic toys. It is also feels light. Quadrant score is somewhere around 1200. Battery life is quite good. Running on Android 2.3.5. Camera wise it is ok. Shoot 720p but cant auto-focus. It has a USB storage of 1.70gb. Devices memory of 0.99gb. It has a total ram of 371mb.

i see i see....i think i will get it next week...if there is any 1st batch problems update it over here....i would like to know if there is any

btw, any forumers here selling galaxy W casing and screen protector? need to buy for my new baby

The only part which Galaxy W lags is when it comes to the heavy-weighted home screen. When you have a lot of widgets on the home screen, it will takes time to load. When you get into an application and exit the application, went straight into the home-screen. You will see a blank screen (just the wallpaper), after some time, the widget will be loaded.

Other than that, everything is very snappy.

Its loads pages pretty fast. Hard to say how fast but you wont have any complains with it. Flash playbac is ok.

Yea...a budget phone. Don't expect much. Yes, no auto-focus when taking 720p.

s plus using better product. memory only 1gb? i thought 2gb? wifi depend ur line what. if unifi sure fast. bro got any SOD issue appeared? care to share v us?

SGS II is way too expensive, totally out of my budget. I'm just a student and am planning to get myself a new hp by, of course, using my own hard-earned money. Currently, there are 3 hps in my mind, Samsung W, SE xperia active and motorola defy+.

Yes, it is Ori. Mine is with 2 years SME warranty. There isn't any AP model available. Since ytd 8am till now. I have no issue of SOD.

Yea. I tested mine and it is not possible to do that. I also think that asia will get the 2GB one.

that's why i don't use beautiful widgets (weather and clock)..just basic social widgets..but so far, i have quite alot of widget on my home screens but still responds fast.

Yea. It will only happen once you clear off your rams. When your ram usage drop to somewhere around 171mb. Quickly escape to the home screen. I think you will see a blank screen.

screen size is not a problem...just it dosent have gorilla glass i wish it comes with gorilla glass...then i will go buy today!

I was talking about the new motorola hp, defy+ not defy. Defy + is powered by 1ghz processors and more importantly, it's dust-proof and water resistant.

be careful of the so called "water resistant". is Resistant only. not really water proof. Still, DEFY+ is a great phone with it dust proof and water resistant, but in this forum we are talking about the affordable galaxy W. so stick with the topic can't wait the review and comparison. Might get this for my dad if everything is fine.

My concerns are: battery life and display..

How battery life, since ppl said its an OC chipset? This is always an issue for any smartphone.. the only "smartphone" that is having the longest battery life i ever had is my modded htc flyer with phone enabled. my battery just never went out in the middle of usage since i used this as a phone. Lol. With half cheged still can last a day with frquent internet browsing. Well its packed with 4000mah juice tho..

And how is the display of sgw? The reason that i sold my ace before is coz i dislike the display, especially when browsing internet..

Samsung doesn't state it doesn't mean it doesn't have it.

for those who already using this phone - does it have a portable wifi hotspot feature? as i understand android 2.2 (or was it 2.3) has this feature, i'm wondering if samsung enabled it or not in this phone.

it wont drop any further for now, previously price drop was due to many speculating iphone 5 will arrive but instead iphone 4s came, but price still remain cheaper than when it was launched with RRP.
