Based on specs alone, iPod Touch of last year easily trumps PSP. PSP is based on a very dated processor with archaic graphics. Graphics-wise, PSP is much inferior compared to the iPod Touch, plus it's got not much purpose other than gaming.

For button lovers, PSP is the winner. Some games are really meant to be played on buttons. On the other hand, if u are preferring buttons on iPod Touch you'll need addons that works with it.

To me, both consoles got their own compromise. PSP got a very, very dated graphics, while iPod Touch is emphasising more on touchscreen gaming. It's like comparing a playstation with a wii, both are very different catering different kind consumers. So no one can tell you which one to get, unless you've played both first.

All in all, if I am you, I'll get the PS Vita next year, since the specs are unmatched by current gen iPod Touch which haven't seen hardware refresh this year. Buying current gen PSP will only have you regret really soon, since you can already find parallel import of PS Vita as early as next month (not the official regional release)

PSP is just for gaming, a plain gaming device. iPod Touch is almost like a phone which lets you go online, play the media in your library and some games. At this situation, I think that PSP is going to an end, because PS Vita is coming out next year. Whereas, the latest iPod Touch is just launched last month. According to my experience and I can tell you that I use iPod Touch more than PSP because PSP is just for gaming whereas iPod Touch can do more than one feature.
