Mertesacker was brilliant 2nd half. 1st half was poor I admit but take nothing away from his second half performance.

I don't know why I stayed on the pitch but WHAT A GAME!! Great spirit, great atmosphere and a great win! RVP needs to start scoring though!!
*
He stayed on the pitch because it was not a clear goalscoring opportunity. As much as the rule apply to outfield players the same goes for the Goalkeeper.

Congratulations, As i said every dog has it day. Really great performance by RVP. But i think your first choice keeper schenzeny is still pretty inexperience and that might cost you guys much more later on.

If you watch the replay, the goal my mata from a First Person point of view he got the foot work quite bad !
*
He might cost us points but at the same time he has the ability to win us points and he has shown that already so it pretty much balances out. Many tend to forget his age and will only get better as he builds experience.

You can throw names in like Joe Hart or De Gea or whoever but I won't swap him for anyone. With such ability at only 21 I shudder to think how good he will become 5 years down the line.

That is harsh. We have created some very good chances and we are playing some good football. Unless you expected like 30 shots to be like a home team? Marseille are very good defensively and I'm surprised we even created that many to begin with. We should be 1 or 2 in front though. I hope the chances we missed won't come back to haunt us.

Van Basten: RVP Must Never Leave Gunners

QUOTE
Robin van Persie must never leave Arsenal.

No other European club will suit him as much and he will not enjoy his football as much if he leaves the Emirates.

That is the advice Dutch legend Marco van Basten is giving the Arsenal striker.

Van Basten, the former Holland coach, has a good relationship with Van Persie and, Arsene Wenger apart, knows him better than anyone in football.

Van Basten, who in his playing days quit Ajax to achieve glory with AC Milan, said: “Robin must not leave Arsenal. You can’t compare my situation at Ajax. The big difference is that Robin is already at a big club.

“Robin has been in London for six years. He can’t help it that Arsenal have won nothing in that time.

“So much has changed in those six years in the Premier League.

“Chelsea have become a big club and have massive financial resources.

“Manchester City have become a big force and are richer than any other club.

“Manchester United and Liverpool have American owners. The amount of money which is flowing to these clubs for transfers is unbelievable. Arsenal operate differently. I admire that.

“And I still think Arsenal are the most beautiful club in England. At Man City and Chelsea, they will never have that class and style.

“Arsenal have the most amazing stadium, they have a style of play, they have a beautiful shirt – in every way I consider Arsenal as the ultimate football club.

“It is the club where Robin belongs.’’

Van Basten went on: “Do I sound like an idealist? Maybe I do, but all those things Arsenal have to offer can play a part in the decision to stay there. The foundations are there.

“It is up to Robin to create winning ways so Arsenal will be the very best of those big clubs in the top six in England.

“I know Robin can’t do it all on his own.

“But he will have to put pressure on the people in charge, on the board, on the owner, on everyone who is involved in the highest echelons of the club, that they keep doing the right things for Arsenal, so the team can compete at the highest level.

“Last year Arsenal still had a really good team and could have gone a long way to winning the Premier League title. Now they have lost two pillars from their team in Fabregas and Nasri.’’

But does Van Persie have the personality to demand those things from Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke (below) and the board?

Van Basten said: “He has a fantastic personality, he is a leader, a good professional. His behaviour as a pro is immaculate. He has the authority to get involved in selection and advise the manager.

“Robin now has to make sure the club makes the right decisions, so Arsenal will be run properly.”

Van Persie has 18 months remaining on his contract and will be searching for indications of what his future could hold with Arsenal.

Van Basten explained: “It is very plain and clear.

“He can say to Arsenal: ‘I can leave or I can stay. Just tell me: Do you want to go for bigger things with me? Yes? Then you will have to invest. If you don’t want to, that’s fine, but then I am going’.

“Arsenal are a really big club.

“With a few more top- quality players around him, Robin will improve his chances when it comes to winning things and being successful.’’

I'm growing as a fan of Santos. I honestly don't know what to make of him though. In all the matches I've seen him play I can't make out whether he was sh*t or played great lol.

Take the Chelsea match for instance.

Looks absolutely crap in the opening mins when he was slaughtered almost every second by Sturridge, then pops up to score that really important equalizer, then looks a super defender with a couple of great slide tackles with one I remember on Mata, then gives the ball away stupidly and then tangles with Lukaku that results in the third for Chelsea, then when scores were 4-3 he that did a game saving block on Mata after Chesney flapped at a set piece which we then countered to make it 5-3.

Seriously how do one gauge such "eventful" performances haha

Last night was certainly one of less drama you would say on the left side of defence. But I do agree that he is actually a better defender than some people think. Probably just needs to tweak the timing of his overlapping runs a little so that we are not left overly exposed at the back.

And last night was one of Jenkinson's best game. I've been his biggest critic but looks a real proper wing back with a proper cross last night. More of that performances and I'll be left to eat my words but I'm not complaining!

Lol can't say I like Jenkinson just yet, but a good performance warrants praise and he was very good last night. nod.gif

Many are picking Vermaelne as MOTM last night but I disagree. Few times appeared to be over-eager and over zealous to try and nick some balls from behind the opponent and got the timing horribly wrong which resulted in some free kicks in dangerous areas for West Brom. A team with a better set piece taker would have punished us once or twice. Needs to curb that over eagerness of his a little IMO. Sometimes its better to just stand off an opponent rather than try to nick the ball off their feet. Even the commentator highlighted this a couple of times last night. Still a class defender which brings stability to any back line though.

This is why I always manage championship team in FM. U'll be happy to be able to sign any premiership player. And being in championship, u do have to stretch ur budget and wheel and deal like Harry redknapp and buy youth player for future and give all player lesser wages than normal like Arsene wenger. I do that even after I won premiership title.
*
Wheel and deal like Harry Redknapp...is that meant to be a joke?

I'd be absolutely p*ssed if we don't win this one. We shoulda scored 2 or 3. Norwich have been really riding their luck in that first half.

Sorry but Norwich were sh*t today. Our finishing though was certainly average. We could have and probably should have probably put at least 2 or 3 more back in the net.
