Nothing wrong with your poll suggestion. That's just a testament when you said that you're one of loudest critics. I also think that one of Almunia biggest weakness is he doesn't organize his defense well (and also very suspect when handling long ball & cross). Actually, like many of you i also already lost faith in Almunia after his horror performance especially that WBA match. But as i said before i don't think Given is that good replacement, maybe for short-term but it will not solve Arsenal GK problem.
It was blessing in disguise when Almunia start to perform poor + Fabianski injury + Wenger stubbornness, Wojciech Szczesny came out of nowhere and seems like the right solution for the GK position. He still have to word hard to proved himself. I remember he make a statement last year that he's gonna consider his option in January because of lack first team action, if i'm not mistaken he hinted that he shouldn't be third choice behind Almunia and Fabianski because he think he's better than them, before Arsene Wenger persuade him to stay. When i look at Bundesliga, Håvard Nordtveit did really well for Borussia Mönchengladbach. He's their starter which is something that he never have chance during his Arsenal days. Arsene wanted to keep him, but Nordtveit insist that he need to play regularly. I'm just glad that Szczesny situation didn't turn similar to Nordveit's.

sure, i also agree that our long standing defensive problem was (hopefully it is in the past now) due to defensive organization rather than the defenders individual abilities. however, i'd rather we bring in someone new than not doing anything to address the problem at all; which seems to be what we were doing at that point of time since we keep on having the same problems over and over again and cost us valuable points season after season. so it was pretty simple for me, bring in Shay Given as the new GK > not doing anything to address the problem. but as i said, hopefully it is all irrelevant now that we have a very good young and confidence GK as our #1 which breeds confidence to his defenders
i will have to disagree with you on the 'Wojciech coming out of nowhere' comment. he was long tipped to be our #1 eventually, it just a question of when rather than if with him. he has that kind of aura you see with Jack, our ex #4 and i saw it early this season with Benik. even the boss was suggesting England to call him up before Poland did to solve their GK problem; pre-Joe Hart times (do correct me if i'm wrong here though, can seems to find any article about it now). so for me the boss did not bring any replacement for the GK position to (in his wording style) not kill the progress of Wojciech. he must have thought that Manuel can do decent enough job until Wojciech is ready. oh how wrong he was
and on the poll thingy, i did mention last time the reason i requested for the poll i.e. i was losing believe in the boss and would like to see if anybody's point of view can make my believe to the boss grow stronger again. and of course, i was sick and tired of people posting 1-liner comment to either
bash the boss, ask him to resign
or
defend the boss, bash the pro 'sack Arsene' camp
without really giving reasons and proper comments. so at least (i thought la) with poll people will be more inclined to put forward more constructive comments as to why they chosen any option
