hi
can anyone advise what type of pipe to use for the main pipe from the meter (must be underground thr the garden). some says stainless steel can be corroded by chlorine, GI will rust. can I use copper (and joint fittings) instead of PVC, PE (not suitable for DIY), etc., for underground
my previous plumber used the long black plastic one (in rolls) and it keeps damage by tree roots !
any advise
thanks

TS, just place you water pipe inside a steel pipe (slightly bigger than the water pipe itself) at the area where your trees root are located. The steel pipe will protect the water pipe inside. Paint some bitumen coating to the steel pipe for corrosion protection.

SS pipes will also rust if buried in the ground. Unless you use the high grade one, which is very costly.

QUOTE(kelvyn @ Oct 30 2011, 02:55 PM) SS pipes will also rust if buried in the ground. Unless you use the high grade one, which is very costly. Put the SS pipe inside a concrete slab. Chlorine problem you mentioned, if I recall correctly, is when you have accumulated non-moving water where concentration of chlorine is higher. For mains pipe should not have this problem.
