When it comes to digital distribution, Valve's Steam is a juggernaut. There are 35 million active user accounts and over 1,400 games available to download, and Valve has built up a loyal and active community fan base. That said, there are numerous competitors in the space and Electronic Arts seems to be pushing hard to make an impact.

EA has said that it's not in competition with Steam, but recently the publisher took a big step forward with Origin by signing other third parties, including Warner Bros., THQ and Capcom, and just the other day EA CFO Eric Brown talked up the advantages of Origin as compared to Steam.

IndustryGamers chatted with several leading analysts about EA's Origin push and how it might affect Steam, if at all.

David Cole of DFC Intelligence doesn't see much room for Steam to grow at this point since it already controls such a large share of the market, but he's not so sure Origin will be the service to grab share.

"So it makes sense that new would be competitors would pop up AND publishers are willing to try out those new distributors."

oh ya, there is one skill tree, one maxed, gives you passive map hack skill showing where the enemies are. very useful.

and to me, the game is much easier in melee, and yes i maxed my melee skill tree.
because before i played i read reviews stating that ranged combat is very broken.

well there are some situations where long ranged is required but those are rare cases.
most of the time combat is resolved with my fist.

finished the game after it was patched oo.
i started playing before the patch though.

Half-Life creator and Steam operator Valve has long heralded 'games as a service', and many big studios and publishers are now embracing that philosophy and business model.

The traditional "fixed-product to consumer model", whether retail or digital, is "just more limited" compared to those where the "game is connected, alive," and bristling with "valuable features."

This approach of 'as a service' for games will "simply be the baseline" for all the highest performers. It'll no longer have that 'buzzword vibe' about it, but be accepted as vital.

"The best current example of this is the community and interest that has developed around creating assets for Team Fortress 2. We hoped it would be fun and lucrative when it launched and we were pleasantly surprised on both points," said Valve's head of business development Jason Holtman in an interview. You can't 'fire and forget' titles anymore.

"It builds community because people like to both create things themselves and they like to consume things that others make – not just the original creator," he explained. Team Fortress 2 is now a free-to-play shooter from Valve.

"Communities happen because through this there are just more connections in the experience. It is no longer just Team Fortress 2 creators at Valve having a conversation with players, but now many more of those connected threads arise between the people involved with the game – the players, community creators, and traditional creators."

The traditional boxed product and 'games as a service' are "fundamentally different," he said.

"The traditional fixed-product to consumer model – delivered via retail or digital – is just more limited. It doesn’t mean that there won’t be some continued success in that, but there is far more opportunity when the game is connected, alive, and has a host of valuable features," continued Holtman.

"It certainly won’t be a buzzword like it is now. It will simply be the baseline of all the best and most successful video games," he replied when asked where it'll be in 5 years time.

"We hope that we are making great tools for developers to use to have these opportunities. And at the same time, we hope that video game developers find what we are doing interesting and that they want to participate and explore the possibilities. It’s early and there’s a lot of learning and experimentation taking place."

1)when we copy the steamapps folder to another new computer so we can play the game in new pc but if i just copy some system files (i think) only for MW3 in steamapps folder and in steamapps>common folder copy the whole MW3 game folder to new pc will it be the same?

2)when i backup 1 game in laptop (OS-vista), then install in pc (OS-Win XP) why there have virus file? it happened to my Dead space 2 (haven't try for others).
