Hi all.
I intend to adopt cat [or kitten], as I am of the opinion that it is more economical than to buy it from the pet store. Can anyone suggest the adoption centre around Selangor/Kuala Lumpur area? |

QUOTE(nujikabane @ Dec 7 2014, 12:00 AM) Hi all. sry, pls allow me to comment a bit on the word 'economical'.I intend to adopt cat [or kitten], as I am of the opinion that it is more economical than to buy it from the pet store. Can anyone suggest the adoption centre around Selangor/Kuala Lumpur area? we adopt cos we want to give a home/a chance to live for those poor stray cats, not 'economical'. you gotta get the mindset right. Adopt will also stop the unethical 'kitty'mill activities. For my case, it it not 'economical'. I spent quite a lump sum of $$ to treat my 2 kittens for the sickness they suffered when they were stray & got from the rescue centre/animal shelter. (malnutrition, earmites, ringworm, diarrhoea & flu) I believe the $$ I spent on them for the med & food I could hv just buy a kitten from the pet shop. They may not be as beautiful as those selling in the pet shop but with all the effort & TLC I put in for them, they are my sweethearts. Just giving you a headsup This post has been edited by jessteong: Dec 8 2014, 03:47 PM |

Just giving you a headsup Many thanks for the constructive criticisms. Please allow me to elaborate more on what I meant. I concur that the reason to adopt is because we want to give a home i.e. having new family members. When I meant economical, I mean it in the sense that it makes more logical sense to spend the money on taking care of the cat, as opposed to paying the pet store, and ending up having less for the cats. To put it in monetary terms; Adoption cost (let's say from PAWS/SPCA) : RM100 (including vaccinations and such) Paying for a cuddly cat put on display at the pet store : RM1,400++ From the get-go, paying from the pet store would set the buyer RM1,300 less than adopting. Which in turn means less to care for the cat. It may mean that the cat may get substandard food/toys. ^ That was I meant. In no way did I imply that I plan to get cat because it is economical per se. |

I actively discourage people from buying cats and dogs at the pet stores, unless you know exactly where those animals are coming from. More often than not, those cats and dogs come from mills where the animals are bred willy nilly and given no proper care.
Adopt from a shelter. They come spayed/neutered, with up to date vaccinations. |
