oh ur problem...umm...try set everything in the nvidia driver to all low instead of in BF3 menu.
but to me sounds like ur gfx card is over-heating / dying.
try check the temp when its running and see.

res depends on ur monitor ratio, unless u want those black bars on the side etc.
of cos start at the decent lowest one like 1366x768.
