Hi guys, already did a search and found no official Lowyat Swatch enthusiast thread so here we go.

As a child of the 80s (Gen-X) The Swatch craze came to Malaysia at the right time for me as I was in my teens and Digital watches were thought as watches for kids (time to grow up and read analogue watch dials haha). Swatches were (and still is) the "IN" thing back then with its funky design and other features like "alarm", "music" "one-button chrono" etc...

Having said that, I kind of ignored the earlier swatches as the plastic design did not inspire confidence and thus My very first swatch was a swatch scuba which had a 200m water resist value.

Attached Image

Soon after the Swatch "Irony" series made its debut and I was sold. I had to get one. I got one with a "Loomi" kinda like indiglo night light feature.

Attached Image

The night light didn't last very long and after sending it back to Swatch (at Lot 10) they replaced it with another model (I didnt mind coz I got a newer watch)

Attached Image

Both these watches are now lost cry.gif but I have never stopped being a fan of swatches. I have made it a point to own at least one swatch watch as I find that they are nicely built, fresh design and last quite awhile. Heck Swatch Ironys made "unibody" design watches even before steve jobs used them of his Macbooks biggrin.gif
I also love the fact that swatch straps are user replacable and interchangable biggrin.gif

Currently The swatch That I am using at the moment is an ordinary Swatch Irony Aluminium "Blue Chess" ( I love how lite it is) with a custom black aluminium bracelet which I bought wayyyy back in 2002, (had a battery replacement once) and still going strong for almost 10 years already.

Attached Image

Ever had a relationship with a swatch? Do you know what the "nickname" of your swatch? share ur experience here

Need help finding out which model and Name of your beloved swatch??? Click HERE Swatch Finder

I am wearing an automatic Swatch made in 1996. Change the strap to a metallic one. Occasionally went to swatch shop polishing due to my rough handling.

Based on the year. its written on the bottom of the face. sometimes need to use magnifying glass.

get the year and type example Swatch Irony Chrono 2004 and use uncle google. At least thats what I do. Use image search so that can identify exactly ur swatch.

I started out with Swatch during my secondary school days, collecting 4 or 5 watches at one time though most of them are now either damaged or kept in storage. Unibody designs look nice but are a pain to open up for repairs.

A few years later I grew out of them and moved on to Japanese makes. With my recent acquisition of the SMPC I guess I have gone full circle back to Swiss watches biggrin.gif

The recent Irony series do look good, even using modded Lemania movements for the automatics.

Yup, thats why it is a classic model. Personally I have had good experiences with the Swatch Irony series and find them very durable and long lasting. The only maintenance that you might have to do is a battery change (even that with last you quite some time)

If you prefer a newer model there is another similar one in 2003/2004 called "Accecare D'oro" (I still think Body & Soul looks better though)

Attached Image

My next Swatch that is on my target wishlist is an Irony Chrono or maybe an Irony Auto chrono brows.gif

haha cowboy_bebop is correct rclxms.gif This watch is STILL AVAILABLE!!! although it remains one of the last Irony Automatics (the rest are all Irony Automatic Chronos)

I just came back from Swatch at Alamanda Putrajaya and they have the"Body & Soul" in stock. Priced at RM620 nett

seems like swatch is still producing this design 14 years down the road.

Here is how it looks on my wrist.

hmmm spent quite some time at the swatch boutique...hands getting itchy wanna get me an Irony Chrono sweat.gif

boutique sell it in a box of 3 (wing, lightning bolt, and the opulence), really can't afford that of course. i'm ok with preloved swatch, but seems like there's no one selling a used Jeremy Scott edition.

For the james bond collector series, I like this one

Irony, Simple design with the names of the cities of the orient express on the outer bezel, and the Red Star at 12 o'clock reminds me of the good old Command and conquer days "For mother Russia...."

lol. laugh.gif that's too swiss for me. reminds me of victorinox. there's a lot of preloved swatch in mudah, but most of it are beaten up watches from the 20th century. those with good condition might gonna tear our pocket apart.

hmmm noticed that the lume paint on some swatches are quite dissapointing...

My Irony has vary good lume but my irony chrono has very poor lume. I can hardly tell the time if I wake up at 5 or 6 am

perhaps lume is not their specialty. the best lume for a cheap watch so far imo is seiko diving series and luminox. but still, we can rely on the engine rite? smile.gif

Hi guys, just bought my first Swatch Irony Automatic "Body & Soul"(actually my very first automatic watch)

I changed the strap to my old black bangled type. ( I still have the stainless original stainless steel one though)

Attached Image

What do you guys think? look okay? or should I revert to the original strap?

ultimately its quite a good automatic, so far keeps time well (compared to my battery swatches)

21 Jewels just like some Seiko 5's but its swiss made rclxm9.gif

Hey Fariq, about Body and soul. Actually I saw this 2 years ago when I accompanied my friend to get his first watch at Swatch. I loved it at first sight but did not get it as I think the watch face diameter looked small for my wrist.
Now looking back. I think I will check it out again but sadly they hiked the price twice. Was around Rm550 previously? I think now it's RM620.
Did you get yours at RM620?
I would prefer the metal strap. The one u change into looked a bit out of place but that's just me smile.gif
Congrats!

Hahaha Congratulations on your purchase thumbup.gif you wont regret it.

I came across a gold elastice bangle strap at AMCORP Mall flea market last Sunday, Tried it on but did not get it caused my friend said it looked a bit tacky hehe tongue.gif
Attached Image

So now my "Body and Soul" is with an old Irony Strap from and older broken Irony.
Attached Image

One think I liked about the "Body & Soul" is that there is no up or down. Perfect for people like me who wear their watches on their right hand cool2.gif

Last weekend was out and about at 1Utama. Went to swatch to ask about straps/bangles, unfortunately they only have one blue leather strap for the normal irony bigs.

Also checked out the Swatch touch and spending time swiping it.

Attached Image

Retails for RM470.00 and available in the colours above.

Mesh bracelet? any pics or links? not too feminin I hope sweat.gif

Speaking of Feminin... I noticed that this Swatch Thread is under the "Men's Style & Fashion" Subtopic. I wouldn't want the Lady Swatch users to be left out as most Swatches are unisex and they do make some attractive lady watches and accessories like the "Bijoux" blush.gif

Just to share:

I left my "Body & Soul" at home for the week end. (Went to waterfalls so brought along my Casio Duro "Basher" watch). Came back after almost two days without wearing it and it was still kicking rclxm9.gif it was about 2-3 mins late though (guess it was starting to slow down) Not bad I guess...40 hour Power Reserve...Proven rclxms.gif

At least now I know I can target for another Automatic. But I guess two autos is the limit for me sweat.gif

Actually the year that is fine printed in the bottom area of the watch face is the year that the swatch is "designed" not manufactured or released.

Some swatches have the year and also "AG" on it which I think means that it was designed in that year but only produced in a later year.

For example my Irony Swatch writes "2005 AG"

But when I tried to find it with the swatch finder site it turns out that its a 2006 Spring Summer Collection. here : CASUALLY INSPIRED

hmmmm usually swatch prices are controlled. but you can try some shops who keep some NOS

try a watch shop at 1st floor pertama complex or another shop at LG midvalley near jusco entrance.

you can usually haggle and ask for the best price.

hope this helps. smile.gif

Hmm I noticed that some swatch Irony Chrono's have very little "Iron" on them. Personally I think its a Rip Off from Swatch and I think that these swatches should not be under the "Irony" series. The thing is the main body is plastic!!!, even the case back is plastic!!! It does not look "unibody" anymore, even the bracelet might be plastic, the only metallic parts would be the crown and the bezel. You still pay just as much as a "full iron" swatch irony chrono though.

example is just like the model below

Attached Image

Is swatch trying to pull a fast one on us? or just skimping on materials? you be the judge...

my gf accidentally struck on it when we were walking at sungei wang. 37.99 dollars only for that is totally not worth it tho. it looks almost like new gents now without the wing. here's the pic:

ya zodiac, nothing rotates.
outside ring shows what animals etc, inner ring shows the month they correspond to.
the steel for sure lasts, but the plastic around the casing...diff story tongue.gif

hmmm now that I have tried a few other watches... I feel that the swatch irony series are actually quite small for my wrists...the normal one (including my irony auto)

was thinking of getting a swatch automatic chrono but it only comes in plastic cases...

The irony chronos are a bit bigger in size though...

Yeah S51.

I still have a couple of swatches with melted/crispy straps from back in the 90s which is understandably not very photogenic now laugh.gif

Recently resurrected this Musicall from late 90s.

It was my valentine's day gift to my wife (my gf then) in the first year we met.

The strap has melted away but it surprisingly sprang back to life after battery change.

i have the same S51 as well...

the white dots on the dial is actually the welded points of the mechanism while the red dots represent the jewel locations...

given the retail price of this, i would say its really a huge milestone for Swatch...

I don't know about accuracy bro. But if you read the link it does confirm it is extremely cheaply made. Of course, Swatch watches were never designed to be family heirlooms. Just enjoy it.

Then you should get it replaced at the service centre or swatch store. That is what the warranty is for.

OMG! Reminds me of my Swatch watches (during the 90s) which was bought with my hard earned money as a part timer during high school. Hopefully can post some pictures to share with everyone.

My first ever Swatch watch is a black and white with elastic strap.

Most memorable is the Swatch .beat (SQB101 Swatch 1999 Webmaster Beat). It is so hard to find replacement for the strap. I gave up.

Model: http://www.swatch.com/en/watches/sqb101-webmaster-static

Another one will be Swatch Skin. Transparent strap (with the shape of a condom). Yes, I'm serious.

I will update here after I check the Swatch watches that I bought. I just discovered that someone shared a link that has all the Swatch collection. rclxms.gif

Seems very quiet here, had my Swatch Irony for a long long time, very tough and long lasting watch I would say, still ticking as of today, it certainly looks cool with its' aluminium bracelet.

Anyway letting it go for now, need to clear up some space for my other watches.

no need original reciept bro, just the watch needs to be ori, hehe. Still rocking my Body & Soul from 2000, but now thinking of maybe custom plating/refurbishing it. Just wish i could find the ori strap for sale somewhere.
