hi.. just want to know if any of you guys had problem with proximity sensor on n8.
the situation is like this; when making a call the screen easily turns back on if i move the proximity sensor about 1cm away from my ear/head. then if the screen with the end call button touches my cheek, drop call !! i confirm the range by testing it with my finger while the phone is dialing. this had happen a lot past one year, and all this time i thought i was holding a touch screen phone incorrectly, and sometimes i blame the network for the frequent drop calls. only just recently i notice this.some folks at nokia support forum are also discussing about this problem, so i can confirm this problem does exist. just want to know is my unit faulty, or this is normal for n8? |

Usually during a call when you hold your phone close to your head, the screen goes black and the touchscreen is disabled. It uses light.the situation is like this; when making a call the screen easily turns back on if i move the proximity sensor about 1cm away from my ear/head. then if the screen with the end call button touches my cheek, drop call !! i confirm the range by testing it with my finger while the phone is dialing. this had happen a lot past one year, and all this time i thought i was holding a touch screen phone incorrectly, and sometimes i blame the network for the frequent drop calls. only just recently i notice this.some folks at nokia support forum are also discussing about this problem, so i can confirm this problem does exist. just want to know is my unit faulty, or this is normal for n8? |

That's a reason why the proximity sensor near the earpiece so when you put you phone near or on your ear it turn off the screen

so guys, ur phone also has about 1 cm range for the sensor to turn off the screen? that means my sensor is normal.
1 cm range from the ear is not that far away, a slight movement will have this 1 cm gap. i thought it's normal for people to move the head, or tilt the phone a bit while having conversation. (or is it just me? tested with my wife's galaxy s plus, the screen was activated after about 2 or 3 cm gap, even then it took a few second to do so. i guess their engineers knew it is normal to have a temporary gap between the sensor and the head during a call. |

I sent my N8 to the care center because my audio jack was out. They told me that the IC was spoiled. So any idea how the IC spoils?

QUOTE(aspire2oo6 @ Jan 11 2012, 08:56 PM) Possibility I can imagine while plug in you accidentally twisted or push on the earphone while plug in. So internal broke I did something like that, nvm. So the wire lining the audio jack came off, but they said my phone's IC was spoiled too. Coincidentally my friends' nokia phone had the same prob when he was trying on a headset. The sales promoter said his IC was spoiled too. He also said something about using a speaker to play music with his phone would spoil it. So we aren't suppose to use speakers with phones? Can someone clear things up? Thanks. |

Most shop when they can't troubleshoot the problem they give you a generic problem. Actually if really spoil you can fix it back just replace the damage part.
Actually I always plug to my Logitech z-5500d. No issue |
