Just to share recent experience I had with i-parcel.

item delivered from amazon US on 12 Oct. estimated arrival date stated as 26 Oct. arrived at my place 20 Oct.

tracking number provided and status was accurate.

Oppo USA does not officially recognise any third-party region-free modification, and therefore their "official" position is that any such modification will void the warranty. This is obviously communicated to all their authorised dealers around the globe as well, and the dealers will likely tell you the same story.

However, this has not stopped Oppo from seriously clamping down on such things, since it obviously helps boost sales of their units. So while CMY may tell you so, there is really nothing stopping you from getting the 3rd-party modification online and just DIY it yourself. From many user experiences, this is not a complicated and difficult process, and no soldering involved, just plugging in a cable on the mod to the PCB board. I believe johnbluraylover posted in his Oppo BDP-93 thread on this forum some guidance on where to get these.

On the other hand, if you choose not to do so yourself and prefer not to void the warranty, then you'll have to get in touch with SLT Tech (as posted by anfieldude above) in Singapore and source it from them. dirtrun and myself bought our Oppo from SLT pre-modified and warrantied by SLT. So we didn't have to DIY the mod ourselves. However, you risk customs and tax if u ask them to ship to you, unless you bring it across the causeway yourself or some other jalan. SLT's contact info is somewhere in my Oppo thread (see my sig below).

this will probably get drowned out by all the buzz surrounding the BF sales, but i'll post it anyway. just received my copy of The Phantom Of The Opera at the Royal Albert Hall. This is the special 25th anniversary production by Cameron Mackintosh, who was also responsible for the earlier Les Mis anniversary concert.

For fans of POTO and musical-theatre lovers in general, this is another must-get blu-ray. The PQ is great and captures the beautiful staging, costume-design and close-ups of the actors. The audio tracks includes DTS-HD MA 5.1 and as expected, the audio never falters throughout the show, whether it is fully conveying the orchestration or a violin solo. Shut all the doors, close the windows, pull down the curtains and listen to this at reference level (0 dB)!! It will give you goosebumps!

The star of the show, for me, is definitely Ramin Karimloo (The Phantom), the current golden boy of the UK musical theatre scene. I'm a little bias as well, as I watched Ramin performed live as the Phantom at Her Majesty's Theatre in London. My family refers to him as "our Phantom"! lol .... But he is really good ... btw, Ramin played the role of Enjolras (student rebellion leader) in the Les Mis 25th Anniversary production as well.

If you're fan of POTO, this belongs in your blu-ray library.

Very nice indeed. Tempted, but to avoid double dipping, I may wait till the end of the series. There are 7 books in the novel-series A Song of Ice & Fire, and if 1 book = 1 season, we should expect at least 7 seasons of the tv series (if ratings continue to be good). So like the Harry Potter series, I'll wait till it completes before buying the entire series. But that's just me ....

you are correct, blu-ray profile 3.0 is meant for audio-only content with minimal graphical interface (no java menu) and track listing like std red-book audio CD. however, as it's stored on a larger capacity blu-ray format, it will allow for lossless multi-channel audio and high bit-rates. typically, you will expect to find a 5.1 96kHz/24bit DTS-HD MA/Dolby TrueHD/PCM and a 2.0 96kHz/24bit PCM audio stream. to put in context, that's more than 200x the resolution of a std red-book audio cd. of course, providing you have the necessary gears to go with that.

as long as your device supports blu-ray profile 3.0, then it'll work. most existing blu-ray players do, except it won't be specifically mentioned in your user manual. typically only profile 1.1. and 2.0 is stated since if it can play video, it will play audio. profile 3.0 was developed and intended for devices that don't output video e.g. portable music devices, in-car audio player, etc.

bro .... as i'm sure you are already aware, it cost $ to host, run and maintain a website/forum such as this. we are all basically "tumpang" here for free ... squatters if you like. none of us have paid a single cent to make this place our "home" to foster our interest in our respective hobbies/interest .... nothing is free bro .... so give some leeway to the owners of this site and learn to live with it, or use the various tools and remedies to avoid it if you want .... but pls stop beetchin over it.

the owners of this site don't owe us anything ... so they can take it away as easy as they give it out. just be happy we even have a blu-ray section .... in the earlier days, the guys here had to "fight" for the blu-ray thread to be where it is now ... in the AV/HT section. it was originally part of the PS3 thread in the console gaming section. so let's all just be happy for what we have here ... cheers and peace.

i've never bought anything from them, so no comments. however, i can share what info i know about them.

The original Zavvi was the successor to the famous Virgin Megastore (yes, Richard Branson's Virgin group). When Virgin Megastore closed down, Zavvi was the entity created from their internal management buyout from the adminstrators. They even took over the same prominent premise of the Virgin Megastore in Picaddily Circus, London. I've been there.

However, that Zavvi eventually also closed down, and some new owners bought over the Zavvi brand as well as their online business. So the online store u refer to no longer has any connection to the Virgin group nor the original owners of Zavvi.

just sharing my experience. i've done my fair bit of shopping on amazon.com and i've never had any problems with iparcel's delivery to me here in HK. so for those of you having issues with iparcel, it may probably have something to do with the local (i.e. MY) logistics arrangement, local partner, domestic procedures, or whatever. but i feel that to generally paint a dark picture of amazon's appointment of iparcel would not be fair. i'm sure this would probably not sit well with some of u guys because it affects your delivery, and hence your service satisfaction. but like i said, this is my own experience with iparcel. my 2 cents.

soundbars have their acoustic limitations .... have never been a big fan of it. but the plus side is it's convenient and WAF-friendly.
