Received my Stanley Kubrick collection from Amazon UK today. Despatched on 16 oct, lepas by custom 20 Oct so the trusted Royal Mail is still tops. My local Mister Posman also OK-lah considering the weekend.

This is the 8-disc edition (7 movies plus a bonus disc on Stanley Kubrick). I chose this over the US/Canadian edition because of the easier to handle flip case as can be seen from the shots below, apart from the price. Taking out the discs was also very tough initially in its virgin state because of the very tight fit. But after a few in-out, in-out, it was OK; probably better than the problem with the US edition. Apart from the packaging and minus the two films, I believe the included movies are the same as those in the US edition except for The Shining. Here it is the director's cut at 119 minutes European release vs the extended version of 144 minutes for the US release and there are pros and cons on the two versions. It is a pity they did not include both versions in either release. Anyway, here are some shots and if they have been posted before by somebody else, just ignore.
BTW, this is still available at Amazon UK for GBP24.51 (inclusive of shipping) so a bloody good buy for fans of Stanley Kubrick.

Overall package.

thanks for sharing, i got the US VERSION, i am happy with it, although the bookcase is not practical, it is very beautiful indeed. what i do is i took out all disc & kept disc at a cd multi holder. the bookcase is another display items.

for Shinning, i didn't realised there is 2 version. thanks for highlight.

some info for the 2 film u missing - SPARCATUS is good movie but universal studio bluray release is a soso only.
DR. STRANGLOVE is from SONY and received very good review, however it is black n white old movie, so don't expect too much.
Thanks for info on the two missing movies. If like that, my DVD version may be good enough. Or wait for really cheap, cheap BD offer later.

Thanks a lot for the information & photos. My Stanley Kubrick still in long future waiting list. Hopefully it get nice promotion during BF time. wink.gif

How come the Amaray case is up side down, the BD logo and banner in bottom one?
Wah, very sharp eyes lah. The packer must be sleepy and put the paper inset upside down. No problem, I just put it back the right way round!

This Godfather Trilogy is it Coppola Restoration version?
*
Ya, this is the one I got earlier at that GBP17.99 price before they ran out of stock; another very good buy from Amazon UK for 4 standard BD discs (the 3 Godfather movies plus 1 disc of extras) in a slip case.
Some shots just to poison bro. Andrew san some more!

All three cannot stop watching from beginning to end (if you have not wathced before.). Part 3 spoiled by presence pf Sofia Coppola (director's daughter, nepotism??), very unnatural acting, always pouting smile only, yuks! doh.gif I think any other actress would have done a better job but luckily movie saved by Al Pacino and the rest.

Got my LOTR from amazon.ca. Much faster than expected! laugh.gif

Yahoo, rclxm9.gif I also got mine this morning, thanks to DHL and kudos to Amazon Canada. Shipped 25 Oct night, received 28 Oct morning. thumbup.gif
So this Canadian edition looks the same as the normal US and UK edition. On the first disc that I tested, there are 4 Alliance trailers that you cannot bypass other than pressing the Next button repeatedly but it is a small price to pay for the low cost of the deal at CAD44.99, thanks to bro nazmanson for the sale alert. notworthy.gif I saw Speedy selling at RM399 or RM499 (cannot remember for sure but damn expensive.)

Bro Naz & Ronald Kwok, the LOTR LE still on sale or not? I don't see it in Amz CA page anymore!
*
Sorry Jenn, the LOTR EE was only on sale for 1 day as a deal of the day (sometime in October, during that period another deal was the Stanley Kubrick collection, remember?) Your best bet is to wait for the coming BF sale.

BTW, I just watch Kurosawa's classic, Rashomom last night (no, not in BD HD but just my old DVD in B&W and 1.0 mono) where the same event is described differently by 4 different people with different motives or otherwise. So what is truth? Is it just what you believe is true? This brings us to the Trainspotting subtitle issue, I think both bro Andrew and naz are speaking the truth. From my deduction from the posts here, there is English menu and film in English audio, it also has English subtitle but not both at the same time. English subtitle for other languages audio and English audio with other languages subtitle but not English subtitle for English audio. rclxub.gif Not that our bros here have any ulterior motives. OK not a very good analogy.

Anyway, this may be one of the setbacks of ordering from non-English Amazon sites. I may be wrong though!

It was bro nazmanson who mentioned all the Amazon Canadian deal of the day. notworthy.gif In fact those were the only times I looked at the Canada site since their normal prices were almost always more expensive than USA.

Good Buy alert at Amazon UK. Ultimate Gangsters Collection for GBP12.99 - 4 movies - Casino, Carlito's Way, Public Enenies and American Gangster. Not exactly the ultimate gangster collection but still a very good buy if you don't already have these movies. With shipping, this will come to about RM18 per BD so quickly grab! The Amazon site says Region Free.

The Superman Anthology at Amazon UK for GBP24.99 now is already a very good buy, much cheaper than the deal of the day at Amazon US for USD55.99 (expiring soon!). Looks like the contents are the same with 8 BDs and the only difference is the US edition comes in a nice box while the UK one has just a simple slip case. You can try your luck and wait for BF but there is no guarantee that this will be on offer then. doh.gif

Bargain spotted at Amazon UK, Dirty Harry Collection at GBP13.99 for 5 movies. For those who like CLint Eastwood and Dirty Harry series, need not wait for BF. But don't curse me if price drops some more during BF! doh.gif

*
There's one video shop in Low Yat Plaza, UG floor right at the back selling this and other original BD (among other things) that is cheaper than Speedy. The name is Laser something. Don't know if they still have stock of Avatar but definitely cheaper than Speedy but cannot remember how much exactly, maybe RM120

Gladiator [Remastered] [Blu-ray][Region Free]
£7.17

Good deal ?

Is this Remastered same as Sapphire Series (US release) ?
*
Since this is also 2 BD, this could be the same as the US Sapphire series but sifu here may want to confirm. If you do not have Braveheart, then it is a bit cheaper to get the combined Gladiator/Braveheart (2 BD each, Sapphire series) set for US19.99 at Amazon US. This was at US13.99 last week or so.

Very good buy at Amazon UK. The 3-discs Carlos at GBP5.59 only. Unfortunately this is Region B locked but good for those who wants to use as a test disc or for future use when you have a Region B player. This has much less extra features compared to the US Criterion edition which cost much, much more. For Region free bargain, grab the 4-disc Batman Anthology at GBP9.99 if you have not done so yet. I clicked both and even though the VATdeduction is not shown, it is there since both cost only GBP12.99 and with shipping, the total cost comes to only GBP18.26 which is less than RM14 per disc. Pasar malam also cannot get. What are you waiting for?

Seems like the FINAS issue affects only items going via DHL Penang and not other states, thank goodness. I just receive 2 parcels from DHL today from Amazon US (each single title) directly without any problems, sent on 30 November. No custom chop on the parcels. Don't know how Amazon decide on the mode of sending since I chose standard shipping and they used DHL without extra charge. My other purchases are coming by US Mail (PBIMEX) and Iparcel so don't know when only will arrive.

It is really sinful to watch BD on crt. Just get any 32" LCD TV from as low as RM899 (HD ready will do, no need full HD at this size) and you will do youself a great favour. So stop buying any more BD, be a good boy and ask Santa to give you an LCD for Christmas. biggrin.gif

(Oops, forgot to quote his post; this is meant for bro Jenn77!)

I just put the UK Star Wars in my cart and there is a GBP5 gift cert making the price GBP43 only. To click or not to click that is the question. But, hey, you are not supposed to buy any more BD until you get yourself a 32" LCD TV!

Hi, just want to ask some opinion.

Bought quite a number of titles during BF. A couple of disc stated the following

Shipping Estimate Tuesday December 6, 2011
Delivery Estimate: Friday December 16, 2011 - Thursday December 29, 2011
Status : Not yet shipped

I chat with the customer service and the person informed me that Amazon will assure me that I will get the item by the Delivery Estimate - so ask me not to worry about the Shipping Estimate. However, looking at average Standard International Shipping - there is no way they can deliver by December. All the items are IN STOCK. Do you think I should ask Amazon to start shipping those now?

I am worry why they have yet to ship those items despite putting the shipping estimate to be 6-12-11 (yesterday)
*
You don't have to worry. If they ship out late, they will use DHL to meet the delivery date even if you have opted for Standard Shipping. thumbup.gif

Cheh, the prices are nothing great, not even the new lowest. Those thinking of getting the Gladiator BD, don't bother; the better deal is to take the double feature Gladiator/Braveheart combo. The last time I got this combo for 13.99 so it should be the same or lower when it comes on. Each title is the double disc Sapphire series so well worth buying. rclxms.gif
