Don't always trust what ASUS SG or MY say all the time.
Dealth with them in RMA a few times, unethical. :s
I was hoping to buy the tablet, but alas, :s

Yes, I wanted the prime because of the keyboard dock with added battery.
But my RMA experience is 2 mobos (6 months RMA each, not fix, replace with older fixed mobo that were in worst condition), and my brother's RMA notebook (4 months RMA, end up give newer model as replacement, can't fix). At present, my mobo is still wonky, 2 of the 4 memory slots are unusable and the battery slot is screwed and I cannot change the battery. The other mobo i rmaed, the battery slot also broken, cannot pull out the battery. Weird coincidence. The main bugging point is that, production blips is understandable. But as the after sales service is ... in such a state, and the warranty is only 1 year. If any hardware issue arises, means I'm screwed. RMA and take dunno how long to return, and a very messy RMA process at that. |

I don't think its going to be 'reasonable' by any standards.
And the lack of 3G is also a blow for me, i actually need 3G and would rather not tether my phone if possible. |

@Hico, for me I can still wait, been waiting for very long for a good tablet. HC was a letdown, so end up my money that I allocated for tablet still there.
I will wait and see whats coming up this year, and also, the bigger the screen the better. I actually find a 10.1 screen @ 16:10 a tad too small. |

I'd go with the samsung, don't trust toshiba lately
I can wait, no issues. Waited more than a year already. Although the 7" USD250 one actually seems quite a good budget buy. Makes a good gift for not so tech savvy family members. |

To be honest, the servex service centre in jb gives very bad service.
And asus sg feeds a lot of crap to users. They are afraid that imports eat into their commissions la. To cut the story short. And the good batch bad batch thing is another load of bs I think. Because if it's bad just recall then only release. Why muddy up the market? Especially with a weak rma system in place, it'll only agrieve customers. |

I was informed by a reliable source, that in december, a batch was sent out to retailers in SEA. But it was recalled due to 'faulty hardware'. This was in early december. The retailer already had the item in the warehouse then, and he already gave me the price, but it was recalled before the US retailers had it on sale. He actually advised me to hold out first, instead of pre-ordering, even at the expense of his commission.
And yes, I have been voting with my wallet. Haven't spent on a tablet yet because to be honest, they are still a luxury item for me and I don't see why I should pay a premium (over a netbook) for a half baked item, okay I'm being critical at half baked, but I mean at least it should work as intended. Furthermore, the price of the item, would already factor in the 'product return' and 'warranty'. My experience with service centers is that ASUS is one of the worst. So in my view I'm paying similar price for an item that basically has half a year warranty, because I'm expecting if anything goes wrong the item goes into RMA for half a year. In addition, ASUS has never given me an extension on the warranty for the period that the item has been in service. If its a week, 2 weeks, I don't care if theres an extension or not. But for me, 2 items for 6 months and my brother's laptop, and no extension for these. Disappointing. This post has been edited by MYstombox: Jan 13 2012, 08:51 AM |

Thats because ASUS singapore is a joke.
With dock it's SGD900. So it's slightly less than us. |

UP = RRP lor , "usual price"
Introductory price, is what will end up being the market rate. But asus singapore is crap la, they enforce RRP onto some shops, while other shops no enforcement, can sell at 'IP'. But i forsee as with the TF101, that in a few months time msia will be cheaper than sg. |

if u source around, yes.
But at that time, msia will be cheaper. Here retailers don't give a rat's ass about RRP, here will find ways to reduce price without being fished out by asus. |

ASUS promised a lot of things la.
When the TF101 came out, they assured that the dock could be used for future iterations of the tablet. ROFL... looking back, it was just a load of BS. |

Well, for me i also include after sales support.
I am not in a rush to buy a tablet, but I really need 3G support. A modem+portable router will cost around 300RM. So I rather pay Rm300 more for the convenience. But for me camera isn't important Size, screen dimension/size, weight, battery life, 3G and good RMA system is more important. |

Not really, because surrounding the screen is the bezel.
If you keep it same size but reduce the bezel it's better. Same size for bigger screen. ^^ While I am not looking for edge to edge screen, but I think I can afford 1.5cm bezel width. Just enough for my thumb to balance. Although most of the time I realise I won't even use it and palm the whole back of the tablet. |

Not necessarily, because example the tab 8.9 vs 10.1, almost identical innards but smaller package. Of course bigger package , engineering design is less constraining.

I sure hope others will follow.
The cheaper the better the adoption and the better for android in general. |

lol, that's true. BUT, that's a good starting point, hey if asus can do it, I'm sure other mfgs can pump out decent spec'ed tablets @ USD250

QUOTE(chrono7 @ Jan 26 2012, 08:00 PM) I meant a widget to see if there is any wifi activity. I looked around and some did not give me what I want. You can download clarus, it will show wifi network activity. In terms of showing you exact speed, I think that's not possible. Maybe in notification bar yes, but not widget. The polling for content by the widget on your data connection will not be accurate to the dot. Best is go for notification bar icon, and even then, difficult to find. wifi analyzer is not an issue, the strength can check.
I was refering to the exact upload and download speed. Someone recommended network monitor mini. |
