KUALA LUMPUR: The campaign for the 1Malaysia People's Menu has received overwhelming response from restaurants.

According to the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry, there were now 1,004 restaurants taking part in the programme as at Oct 14.

“We were supposed to achieve the target of 1,000 restaurants by December, but we achieved it three months earlier,” he told a press conference after a lunch with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak at Restoran Ukhwah in Lorong Medan Tuanku yesterday.

“The Prime Minister came just to eat. He wanted to taste the food eaten by ordinary folk. He also wanted to find out whether the lunch menu served at RM4 and breakfast at RM2 under the programme were really of quality,” he added.


Paying less for more: Najib smiling as he pays for his meal at Restoran Ukhwah in Lorong Medan Tuanku, Kuala Lumpur, yesterday.
Ismail Sabri said Najib's lunch experience at the restaurant also proved wrong the perception of some quarters that cheap food at the eateries were of low quality.

He added that in the peninsula, the restaurants could offer breakfast at a maximum of RM2 and lunch at RM4. In Sabah and Sarawak, it's RM2.50 for breakfast and RM5 for lunch.

Ismail Sabri urged more restaurant operators to take part in the programme and offer food at affordable prices while helping people reduce their financial burden.

Restoran Ukhwah serves a RM1 breakfast menu that includes teh tarik, roti canai and a piece of kuih while the RM3 lunch menu includes a plate of rice with meat and one vegetable dish and a syrup drink.

Asked how the restaurant could maintain its profit at such rates, Ukhwah Cooperatives president Datuk Rahim Baba said they carried out volume selling while offering other menus at regular prices.

Regular customer Ramlee Salleh, 76, said he ate at the restaurant with his wife Zaleha Salleh, 63, and grandson daily to reduce their financial burden.

Ramlee, who has two wives, said he earns RM700 a month as a petition writer and gets a RM400 pension.

“But it is still not enough for us and I sometimes just eat bread,” he added.

possible, when i was working at midvalley there was this underground makan place somewhat hidden but good prices and food selection.

in penang beside the snake temple there was this indian lady stall i used to go for lunch, her prices usually around 2 smtg

They charged bijan rm3 for what he took. But when u take as much as what he took, they charge u more. When u ask why, they will say Sudah cakap rm3 is rice, meat, Sayur and sirap ma. Gambar hanyalah untuk hiasan semata mata.

Bijan will support them.

Newswomen said that bijan got it for rm4.00. Still cheap, Rm 1 for additional chicken wing.

For PM, they give bigger portions. After reporters cabut, they give smaller portions to everyone else. VVIP mah!

Rm 1.50 = 1nasi + 1 tempe + 1 sayur + 1 egg + 1 Hati ayam + sup

Rm2.50 = 1nasi + 1 tempe + 1 sayur + 1 chicken/fish + Hati ayam + sup

this is a koperasi restaurant. this koperasi has been helping the poor for many years now. they give out $$ to the poor every month. they sometimes even give cloth & stuff. can see ppl que in front of the office whenever things r being given away.

the place is Medan Tuanku, near Maju Junction. can get there via monorail. this koperasi has pawn shop, clinic & alot of other things, mainly to help muslims. they started this restaurant 2 years ago, with the cheapest b'fast = roti kosong 40sen & teh tarik 60sen

btw, this has nothing to do with BN or UMNO. the gov later came up with the idea of encouraging other food vendors to do the same with gov support. i think recently only started. i happen to pass by when Najib was there yesterday. big crowd.

1 teh tarik - rm0.60
1 roti canai kosong - rm0.40

rm1 for that, is really cheap.....

i haven't go yet,..... maybe 2molo go try...

its for everyone, but they do operating in a muslim environment. if female customers visit, i'd advice do not wear sleeveless or shorts, respect a bit.

RM5 for Sarawak also, so not much price difference compare with our local dishes...
might as well just go back to our favorite local dishes

3 sayur X daging pun rm3 already~

Same , everyone should do since all barang naik should get cheaper , if got friends pass by just give some tips to you friend to help to buy whole day meal.
Easy , can save so much. If RM 3 = PM newspaper food

RM 6 can feed 3 family member for dinner
So , breakfast RM 4 + 6 lunch + 6 dinner = Rm18 for whole family a day.
= around RM 500 per month for food supply , can even save up your peti sejuk electricity bill because no need them already and your gas .
