Morning, guys. Please advise on my situation. My relative(aunt) want to transfer car ownership to his son. I'm just wondering about road tax and insurance stuff to help them. Please note that the car is fully paid, no loan whatsoever and it's not urgent. 1) From what my understanding, when changing ownership, road tax is cancelled, yes? 2) Now both of them are insured. Still need to change main driver/first driver name on insurance? Would it involve buying new insurance? 3) As the situation and my wondering suggest, would it be wise to do the ownership transfer now or just wait when road tax/insurance expired/nearly expire?
Thank you.

QUOTE(Chrix @ Jan 15 2018, 05:41 PM) 1) So far, every time I change ownership (either buy or sell), JPJ would cancel the roadtax. Refund via bank deposit. 2) Registered owner of the vehicle must be same as the insurance, so in this case, should cancel the current coverage (usually insurer will prorate refund). As for NCD, follow name, not vehicle, if not mistaken. 3) There is no need to wait, as both roadtax & insurance can be cancelled & refunded. Oh~ Glad to know they refund. Thought all those will go to waste Too bad on NCD though. Cheers.

QUOTE(Chrix @ Jun 26 2020, 06:17 PM) 1. Call puspakom do b5 inspection. Rm30 or 35 tak silap 2. New owner buy insurance first. 3. Go jpj tukar nama, RM100. Boleh continue/new roadtax Similar to my situation. Car free of any loan. Want to transfer ownership but the car insurance and roadtax due. What are the steps? Already booked a slot with Puspakom. Next two weeks. Should I settle puspakom inspection first? Or should I renew the roadtax and insurance first?
