Career analyst Dan Pink examines the puzzle of motivation, starting with a fact that social scientists know but most managers don't: Traditional rewards aren't always as effective as we think. Listen for illuminating stories -- and maybe, a way forward.

And that is why a lot of managers suck, particularly Malaysians, since I am a Malaysian myself.

What are your views?

I watch it twice and still cannot understand what he is talking about, only the part that I already know where the reward practice is ineffective to a point but is practical and the best way initially.

It only means we cannot over use or limit ourselves with standard practice, the candle thing don't work for brick wall, so the point is narrow and only applicable to American.

It is also the purpose of this video not to follow exactly the methods used in different society, the old method still works here because we are developing country and everything we do is expected, it is in the history of the developed countries.

Nope, you are wrong. Haven't you heard that the experiment was also tested in India, and the results are the same? And the candle experiment mentioned it very well that while traditional rewards can be good, but it limits creativity and productivity for jobs which do not require a tunnel vision method of resolving a task, which is the very nature of today's many middle income occupation.

Watched twice and still don't understand. Perhaps you need to improve your English before watching the video first?

Ah, now I know why I don't understand it. I am not in that category, only people who are limited by what he mention will realize they are doing it wrong, he is not a genius and my English is poor but my intelligent is not, so, no big deal.

As for me, I will file the candle base to an angle and fasten it to the wall, don't need the stuff from his experiment limit.

If you have watched, and listened, nobody is trying to fit you into the category. He is speaking on behalf for white collar, middle-class employees.

You self-proclaimed your intelligence to be valid, but you disallowed it to be questioned? How different are you to those who doesn't even know nor admit that they have a chance they may be short-changed with moments which questions your intellect because they are strongly governed by ego and their insecurity of being stupid , and yet you, who self-proclaimed to be intellectual by sugar-coating the accusation that your command of English is poor, and do not know any better?

I know, that I know, that I don't know, but you? You don't even know of what you do not know. And that is no better than an African-American rappers who brags to the world that they are unstoppable, and yet still get caught by the police.

Yea, that is what I like to hear, getting boring in PhD and some genius talk about how he finally realized we are just follower, silly candle experiment and I proved to be different, don't need to be good in English to have intelligent, I can read Chinese and Malay not like the African American you know but your level of ego is what I like to bring out. nod.gif

Tsk tsk tsk.

While I am pinpointing your lack of attention and ignorance towards the video which leads you to think it is stereotypically American, you retorted and became defensive how intellectual you actually are, and effectively dragging yourself into series of other defensive acts to protect your intelligence, as if it is fragile.

Insecure much?

How old are you?

Must I meet your level of ego to say I am intelligent? Why does age matter? older means wiser? Because you say so? Have you taken the candle challenge yourself? I did, so what is your result? If you have nothing, don't insult others.
*
In case your intelligence didn't tell you, the candle "challenge" is actually an experiment to represent as an analogy to most white collar, middle income earners.

So when you asked me, "Have you taken the candle challenge yourself?", I shook my head.

My ego? Every post you have entered gets corrected by its foundation due to either your own misunderstandings, and simply by your own ignorance.

Reply to this if you will, I have no time for kids.

You are the one who posted this topic but you are not in the middle income earners, so you too don't know what you are talking about except showing off.

I AM a middle income earner, genius.

QUOTE(3dassets @ Oct 19 2011, 09:38 AM)
I am lower than middle income means I should take the candle test and see how I fair. That is the kind of attitude I have that surpass the category yet you say its not about group of people, ain't intelligent after all and show your racial hatred that are unrelated to your own topic just because smart S being challenged by orangutan :lol

Took the challenge and derived my own solution, you dare not because you are the intended audience of the video, yea talking about your kind, it matters to you and think its worthy to post?

This may be Asian forum but not all are orangutan and African gorilla that you discriminate, racist old man.
*
You don't get it. The test IS MEANT for average income earners. Understand? How did your own challenge which you have took, and whatever you have derived effect anything to do with the experiment?

And how am I being racist when I am only attributing things to you individually? Are you really that stupid?
