my parquet flooring in room is dark brown..

it makes the room looks grounded and small..

if resanding it and giving it a new finish...is it possible to turn the dark brown colour (those olden days parquet) into a very light brown colour with some finishing layer?

what kinda flooring & floor colour makes the small room looks spacious?

Not much can be done with the colour.

The natural colour of these old 5 finger parquet is usually red/brown, which is of mixed wood origin of either merbau or kempas. Some may even have a shellac to make the colour darker and make the colour variations between the individual pcs look more even.

You could explore laying laminates or engineered on top if the dark colour really bothers you. But that said, laminates seem to be going backwards (ie. from a wood floor to plastic) and engineered can be expensive. Decent quality engineered (even budget range) can cost anywhere from $15s/f. You might be able to get the cheaper chinese import ones at slightly less.

why dont u just take out those parquet floor and change to mosaic??

parquet floor need to take care....if water soak on it, the parquet floor will change color...

change to mosaic, once and for all....my 2 cents

cost wise...a little more expensive than just polish the floor....

cost wise...just refinish ur floor...
for a room might only cost u <100...if ur parquet no old wax peeling off or much of a scratch, no need sanding to be done all will be covered when varnish....
