hi sifu, i am gonna rooooooot my phone coz wanna remove bloatware and prolly some other stuff like set CPU..
a few questions from a noob 1st time android root/flash.

1. there are 2 ways to root as i understand from 1st post.
doomLordRootKit VS flash a rooted kernel way.
- how do i choose between this 2?
from the modded "runmet.bat" for I9100G, 2 changes are
a. remove line @files\adb wait-for-device. may i know why?
b. and then later on, we are adding this line @files\adb pull /data/local/tmp/crashlog files. how do we benefit from this crashlog file?

2. i am a bit confuse between ROM vs kernel vs firmware after reading and suffocated with so much great info. is it right to say, we can individually each of this ROM, kernel, firmware? or usually a cooked ROM will come together with kernel, firmware??

3. the CWM recovery. it's pre-loaded to our I9100G right? how is this CWM compare to the odin method when we reboot phone using the 3 button combos?

thanks in advance.

hey guys, help needed.
i just rooted my stock 2.3.6 with the doomLord toolkit V4 (modded batch file) and it went successful with the pirate droid icon.

then i wanted to get CWM, so i follow the instruction HERE.
basically it's
1. download ROM manager
2. select 1st option - flash ClockworkModRecovery - then it download and installed succesfully.
3. then choose 2nd option in ROM manager - reboot into Recovery
4. phone reboot into the linux page, but after few line, there was error "signature not signed..."

any idea?

flash rom 1st? i thought mostly flash kernel 1st... then only flash rom?
hehe i flash kernel 1st.. stay stock rom while.. while monitoring my battery life..
tongue.gif
you usually got wipe system cwm/fac reset? i see people mention flash custom rom they mostly wipe all thing before flash..
*
thats what i am doing smile.gif flashed kernel superatmos 2.0 only for now.
it will NOT wipe anything.

regarding flashing ROM, according to superRom theard, it mentioned flash the kernel 1st then flash the ROM with CWM.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1374135

FYI. after i did the battery calibration thingy using batterycalibration app, i noticed that the battery 100% status is more stable now. it wont drop to 99% or 97% the next minute i unplug charger.

u can flash back from backup u did in cwm, remember backup ur efs (imei)
rom u can download on page 1.. stock rom dzkj2
*
err.. wait wait... you remind me something.

so the CWM backup is backup ROM? or backup kernel?
when we flash new ROM, if shits happened, kernel will not be screwed right?
so we can always use CWM to restore?

and where does the efs comes into picture?
i did efs backup using ktool. but looks like it's backup to /sdcard
when flash new ROM, if we did all the wipe thingy (including wipe cache/dalvik), wont that remove the content in /sdcard?

and to flash back to stock ROM, somewhere i read can and ONLY can be done using ODIN?

sorry for the noob and confusing question smile.gif

you can go https://market.android.com/ to download free aps then install to your SG2 or transfer to your phone and install.

i tried V4 with the edited tips from crelizard and it works for me.

i have a question regarding back up apps with titanum pro. so i am about to flash superRom 2.0, wanna make sure the apps install currently will be working later after flash to superRom. so i just restore from the titanum pro?

I think that is what they did. I rooted my friend's i9100 using Odin and he did change to another rom once.

Prior to this, I asked him to reformat the phone and the superuser app was gone so I thought it's unrooted already.

guess the only way to reset counter is using the USB jig?

me too skip earlier version and went straight to superRom 2.0
no problem so far, all existing apps are there working well. new features like the toggle, and more.. (refer xda)

now i am no superatmos kernel, superRom.
but basedband still DZKJ2, what is this actually some radio ROM?
i tot in PC terms, kernel is like BIOS, ROM is like OS. then how about baseband?
