It is common to download the latest versions if you havent flashed any versions before.
Its just not worth the update for us who already have it.

After installed MyGKernel, power off the phone.
*Remember to transfer the Custom ROM file to the phone main directory* Once the phone is off, press Vol Up + Home + Power button, to get to CWM recovery mode. |

QUOTE(stillriver @ Nov 23 2011, 10:08 PM) been following this thread for a week plus trying to root my newly bought phone. since I was upgrading from another android i really wanted to root. tried the DooMLoRD like a million times and faced the same problems as most here are having..while quietly waiting and reading finally decided to use the longer method and it took just 5 mins to do.. Good to hear. Others can try this method aswell rather than waiting for DooMLoRD method to work.I had DZKJ2, flashed back to DZKI1 following the methods, got the root, then inserted sim and upgraded back to DZKJ2 via phone in like a few minutes kudos to the guide posted here! extremely accurate to follow!!! just left to get the jig to get rid of the count. |

QUOTE(premk71 @ Nov 25 2011, 01:45 AM) As for the Juffo's ROM. For those who are curious about it. I have been using v 1 and 2 on and off . Nice writeup dude! whether u are rooted or not, you need to flash myGkernel 1.1.1 to get the CWM recovery. Download the Juffo version , e.g v2. Dont unzip. Just move to the SD card and use the CWM recovery to install. You can check out detail instruction at xda. Also there are themes. xda lists change logs, but for what its worth, the visible things are simply, the battery meter, the removal of SMS logs, and the themes. The rest of changelog are not so noticed by average user. I tried all the themes, but eventually settled with stock. I also moved the transparent lock screen file manually and now have a good battery meter that resembles the one in v2 without themes. of course the transparent lock screen works. Just reboot. Is it good or is it bad? I dont know how to answer this. Its ur choice. Try it, if u like use it. No amount of explanation can help dispel ur curiosity. And for those worried about binary counter and yellow triangle, just forget aboout it ok. Its not a deal to be worried now. Just use the USB jig if u so worried. No matter how I "pusing" and flash here/there/everywhere from 2.3.5 to 2.3.6 and now custom rom, USB jig works to clear up everything. Even if u didnt remove the binary counts, yellow triangle, nothing wrong. I am newbie and just 1 month old in android,I dont know much, but i can say its quite difficult to permanently brick ur phone, so go ahead and try stuff. As for the "how to" questions, please just read the 31 pages. The first post is rather important, the rest you can cover fast and will take u 1 hour, but u only need to understand it once. And TRY. And as for someone who asked if after flash all of this can they update firmware by Kies, yes, you can. If u get message like " your phone is not supported for upgrade via kies", just check if ur CSC is messed up. It was on mine after many flashing and soft brick cycles. Just type *#272*IMEI NUMBER# and u can choose back XME and install. Ok. I'm using Juffo's v1. Wont try v2,3 becoz not much of a different. More like cosmetic. Issit good or bad? I guess its better than the stock one. The lag has gone. Other than that, again, cosmetic. The battery % indicator, different themes, etc. And yes, if binary counter is your main concern, better stay away from rooting etc. Mine is already 15 and counting. Love to play around. I think I9100G is more, like 40+? LOL. All in all, I'm happy that its rooted. Cant wait for ICS. |

I just hope to get the official ICS as soon as possible. Then, no need to worry with KJ6, kernel, etc.

Ahh will try SuperROM by superatmos. Apparently its his first custom ROM compare to a very much experience Homam Ageel (juffo). But I will gonna try it since Homam also assisted him with this project.
*Modified power options menu with Reboot, Recovery and Download options Too bad no Flight Mode there that I really fond of in juffo. But no biggie tho. Will request. This post has been edited by EightPhantomz: Dec 3 2011, 10:00 PM |

QUOTE(premk71 @ Dec 4 2011, 07:38 PM) Installed the latest updated superatmos ROM. So far no issue giving root permissions. Camera seems ok, but need more testing. Just to report in that its running fine. Doesnt mess up your phone or cause reboots if u give root permission to some apps. Can download and test yourselves. Nice. Waiting for your review on the batt life and comparison to juffo's.Will run more tests later cause I got to go out. Cheers. |

QUOTE(premk71 @ Dec 5 2011, 04:05 AM) Now this is way out of topic of this thread, but I suppose, eventually one of reason people root to is get the better of their battery by freezing and stuff, so I try shed my little experience. Bad news, you have to read up a few threads , maybe 40 pages in all to really know what's happening. Great views there! And thanks for the JD thread aswell. Just bought the Ultimate version last night as I'm very much satisfied with the free version. Needed the configure app function to enable Lookout app. Wife lost her phone just recently and it haunts me just well. So am trying all the "lost phone" apps to be safe. And If u scare it will brick by flashing around, its tough. Sooner or later you need to cross that bridge to get some goodies. But for better battery you can try this without flashing ROM. 1. Root your phone with Doomlord method. Its either work or dont work only, wont brick ur phone. 2. Once rooted , you'll have superuser app to grant root permissions. 3. Download & install titanium backup pro . You can google around. Sorry cant give u links to crackware. Better buy it but its your choice. 4. Download BetterBatteryStats ( BBS). There is a free version on xda. 5. Download Setcpu - you can buy it or get the xda version free. 6. Get yourself JuiceDefender / JuiceDefender Ultimate. ( JD) 7. Get yourself Autostarts (AS) There are many threads on xda , some people say use BBS, dont use JD and setcpu and there is another group that swear JD/SetCPU is good. What I did is to combine all - and feel free to experiment on your own. This is not the only way you'll save battery. 1. Use TitaniumBackup to freeze all unused apps that come preinstalled. Check thru and see which one you really need. I have frozen Accuweather,Allshare,Android Live Wallpaper,APMobile,Books( if u have it),unused fonts,Days,Email 1.0,Email 3.0.0.1,GameHub,Homescreen Tips,IM,Kobo,Livewallpaper picker,Maps, MiniDiary, News, Oceanwether, OMACP, Readers Hub,Samsung Apps/UNA,Entire SNS,Social Hubs, streetview,Windyweather, yahoofinance,Zinio Reader. You choose what u really need , rest just freeze it. All of the above I dont need or have alternatives. 2,I turn off stuff in settings, accounts and sync, I turn off auto-sync, I turn off motion ( i dont need it), in Location/Security, I turn off "Use wireless network", in Privacy, I turn off "back up my data". Turn off auto brightness and anything else that may suck battery. There are tonnes of articles online search, fiddle and experiment. 3.Then I charged my phone and used BBS to see what is still keeping my phone "awake". Most times, its friendcaster app. I adjust the settings for friendcaster and other apps. Again, pls read thru BBS thread in xda. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809 - you can read a few pages in front and back. 4.I use setcpu and apply profiles that cap the cpu when screen is off and when battery is getting low. Read here for start http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1158102 5.I used JD Ultimate and settings from forums. See here but feel free to research and experiment and understand what you are setting. http://www.villainrom.co.uk/forum/showthre...ender-(Ultimate 6. Of the remaining apps that are not frozen, I use autostarts, to turn of "event triggered starts". I have a very lean startup and most apps run only when i click on them. they dont autostart as they were programmed to do. You can start with a few and experiment as you go along. With rooted stock firmware, with light-moderate use, I can stretch my battery to about 32 hours. Gmails, Friendcaster checks maybe 10 times, music for ~20-30mins, some games (Angry Birds) , watch a few song video, many many SMS, a few calls, and check this forum online maybe 20 times. Also sync my office email with Roadsync 3-4 times manually. JD "claims" it has helped increase my battery about 1.8x. But 32 hours is not repeatable many times. Occassionally I get 24 hours,26 hours, 22 hours. Even with Juffo 2.1 is about the same. Now I am rubbing my hands with glee since its mentioned that superatmos has tweaked power management. I really wanna see how long the battery lasts. So the above is my small experience . I been using android only ~ 2 months now. My biggest shock migrating from my Nokia N8 to SGS2 is battery life. Otherwise no complaints. Anyway, hows SuperROM? |

QUOTE(premk71 @ Dec 5 2011, 10:07 PM) I dont know guys, I have mixed feeling. I flash everything back to stock last night, then flash the superatom kernel and use its CWM to put the Super ROM on. Battery is draining man...... even with JD and set cpu. I am down to 25% now when in past with Juffo and myGKernel i will be around 50% now. Even less apps now on phone. I used the same treatment with JD and setcpu and stuff. Geez.... blow man.... Hang in there! I'm gonna try SuperROM with superatmos kernel in a few. Tonight I will go back to MyGKernel and use just the SuperRom without his kernel and see how it goes. Looks like a week of flashing to and fro and try many things , All over again. About smoother or not, really i dont know man. Its just a feeling. I felt Juffo 2.1 was pretty damn good. But I am not taking the shine off superatmos chap. He really must have put in tonnes of hours into it. I am sure eventually it will be really really good. Cheers. Now trying to see if factory reset lower the Android OS %. Added on December 5, 2011, 10:28 pmHmm weird. Suddenly so lag after factory reset. Flashing the SuperROM now! This post has been edited by EightPhantomz: Dec 5 2011, 10:28 PM |

Flashed superatmos kernel, SuperROM and ICS Theme for GT-I9100G.
So far, the ROM is superslick fast. Better than juffo IMO. Not sure with the batt life tho. Currently restoring my apps and such. See how it goes. Will review the batt life etc after 1 day use. |

Or, since you're now familiar with ODIN, you can aswell use the same method before but replace firmware to mygkernel/superatmos instead on PDA.
Added on December 6, 2011, 11:12 amMy review on SuperROM so far; It was ok until just now, all the icons/widgets/shortcuts went missing from the Home and Application displays. Rebooted few times and it was ok until awhile ago, rebooted 3 times and problem still persisted. I then went into CWM recovery mode and did the dalvik cache wipe. Its OK now but I'm not sure if its really solved the issue. Batt life wise; fully charged at 6:30AM and now it's at 80%. Moderate usage with only several YM messages. Not satisfying so far. Since I've also flashed the ICS theme, might contributed to the not-so-good batt life. Will monitor again tonite and decide whether to try another kernel and/or remove the ICS theme. Note: JD Pro is ON. This post has been edited by EightPhantomz: Dec 6 2011, 11:16 AM |
