Hi, just got my sensation XE, and I'm fairly new to this android system. I am wondering how can I access the files in the memory card? Specifically PDF files, as I have to mail and attach them, but it seems I can only attach image files.

Hi, I just got my first android phone. It is sensation XE biggrin.gif

its been a couple of weeks, and I see that many android users can have all those "personal" touch to their phones.

I believe to have this you have to "root" your phone first?

may i know from the sifus here is root = S-OFF ??

Thanks!

let me try to S-OFF it first tongue.gif

anything I need to keep in mind?

Oh, also I am downloading some program from the Revolutionary website stated on the guide at the beginning. And it asked me to fill some details for the beta key, my question is : under "my device" do I state my "Sensation XE" as "Sensation" ? since I don't see any "Sensation XE" option..

also, what is "Hboot" ? and how to check which one is mine?

Hi There,

You can get the guide here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300
Please keep in mind that rooting WILL VOID WARRANTY!. So please note to do it at your own risk & good luck! smile.gif
*
Any way I can revert it back as to before I S-OFF it? like create a restore point manually or something?

Shit! the guide so heavy!!

OK, following the guide from this link : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300

I am stuck on step 2, where it asks me to install RECOVERY it says to Copy the PG58IMG file into the Root folder of your SD card (The main Folder of your Memory Card) << the problem here is, which folder is the main folder of my memory card? or is just paste it in the main folder of my SD Card?

also, it ask me to Turn off your phone FUlly and reboot into the Bootloader/HBOOT screen (see post above on how to get to hboot screen) <<< my phone has been successfully S-OFF, but I can't see or don't know how to reboot it to get into the HBOOT screen.

can anyone help me please?

Just send the file to your sd card, no need to be in folder or anything, doublecheck md5 checksum after sending the file and make sure they match.

to get into hboot, shut off phone, remove battery, reinsert battery, then press volume down + power button and it should go into hboot.

got it!! biggrin.gif thanks so much!

OK, i am now at this stage

9. Then select "Yes - install su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip" to confirm

but it says :

E: Error in /sdcard/su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip
(status 0)
Installation aborted

is this supposed to show up?

anyways, how do you know when your phone is properly rooted or not?

Try the install again.

Just install Titanium Backup after that and if it launches without giving you a warning you're rooted.

Allright thanks Azel!

Currently i havnt try to install it again tho, but i got the icon "superuser" or is it an app?

So does dat mean im rooted or i need tp try install it again until no error message?

Hmm, you have the superuser app already, just try the install again, for me last time it also failed a few times before success, it was stated in the guide isn't it?, I can't remember.
*
Thanks! i tried to install it again and this time is a success biggrin.gif

Do I need the ADB step? as some say it is not needed ?

also, if I want to install custom ROM, it is said that I need to wipe my phone first. Does this means I will loose all infos on my phone including the contacts?

if you're using gingerbread rom, you'll see usb debugging option under setting>application>development. for ice cream sandwich rom, it is under setting>develop option

i believe you're trying to superCID your phone with above steps. that is required in order for you to flash different RUU.

in order to get adb commands working, make sure you install htc usb driver in your pc.
*
Thanks for your answer! what does "flash different RUU" means? Do I really need that?

RUU = rom update utility. normally it is released based on carrier / telco. ie in order for our Asean set to flash US T-Mobile RUU, we need to superCID our phone otherwise it will not work due to different CID (Carrier ID) and MID (Model ID)

if you're only planning to flash gingerbread custom rom, you can skip superCID step.

if you're planning to flash ice cream sandwich custom rom, superCID is required (but optional if you go for an alternative) in order to upgrading the firmware to boot latest ice cream sandwich (3.24/3.25 based)

once you've achieved root access, please backup your stock rom in recovery (this will backup everything, you user data and system data) prior flashing any custom rom of your choice. flashing of any rom (after full wipe) will wipe all the user data / app / contact but your data stores in SD Card is remain untouched.

for flash-holic, you're encouraged to sync your contact to google account or export your contact to your SD Card for easier contact restoring.
*
Noted! and Thanks! again...

so, say I've done the backup of my stock rom, and finished installing the new ROM (trying out the android revolution HD). I will loose my datas caused by the swiping right? So, can I recover the datas from the CWM backup done previously, but keeping the "Revolution HD" ROM? <<< nevermind this, the contacts are not lost...

but, the apps are gone, do I need to download it again from the market? or I can just somehow re-install it from the SDcard? <<< actually nevermind this as well... it is somehow downloading and installing on its own xD

thank you all of the Sensation community for helping a n00b thus far! appreciate it!

and will try some other cool stuffs with this awesome phone!

Ok, so mine is HTC sense 3.0 and android version 2.3.0 if I am correct this means I am running on ginger bread? The 1 that tells this is by the "HTC sense" or " android version" ?

And if I want to upgrade it to ICS I need to first do the ADB stuff, correct?

android version 2.3.0 is gingerbread.

if you want to upgrade to ICS, first you need to upgrade firmware to 3.24/25 in order to boot the ICS rom.

in order for your to update firmware, you need to superCID or follow the guide to update without superCID (find the source / guide at xda)

fyi, make sure you're fully understand with what you're about to do, we never want anyone bricking the lovely sensation.

another tip for your consideration: once you've upgraded the firmware, it can only boot 3.24/25 based ICS custom roms, you'll need to downgrade your firmware if you want to run with gingerbread roms.

shit that is scary, the term "bricking". any good video step by step guide on how to do this? biggrin.gif

and is there any good source on good custom themes, splash screen, etc. for my version of firmware and gingerbread?

speaking of players, my HTC sensation XE default music player is able to use the "Beats Audio" thingy, but I am trying the MX player currently, is there anyway to activate the "beats audio" enhancement while using this player?

Since HTC's default player doesn't have cross-fading option sad.gif
