I'm a noobie lerr.. Don't have the need to root yet. Taking it as what it is. Overall it is still performing well. So, don't have the urge to pick up rooting skills yet.  laugh.gif

it wont be long until u have the urge to root/flash it. when u have friends around u showing off their rooted and flashed custom rom features, there u go smile.gif i just hopped from Lite'ning Rom 6.1 to CynogenMod 7.1 about 2 days ago. cheers

Hmm im getting from this guy (brandstar mobile city / directd) subang jaya) is a trusted seller? i bvelieve he is authorised samsung dealer (i think)
*
I believe directd sells AP and also SME sets : http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=1943509&hl=
As u can see in his post, "Price:RM1699 (SME) or RM 1619 black, RM 1749 white(Brandstar) RM 1899 white (SME)"
Go for the Rm1699 black (SME) or Rm1899 white (SME) if u want original sets. check the phone like what Joey Christensen has mentioned. Cheers.

so... how about helping a poor brother out here?
*
question 1:
well the contacts in sgs2 is very confusing for me too. but what i do is, i dont sync facebook contacts whenever i log in to facebook. i have a full backup of contacts in gmail, and in my simcard. i just exported my contacts from gmail to a vCard format, put into my sdcard and import them into phone contacts using the import/export feature. then go to 'display options' in contacts, onli view contacts from phone. displaying too many contacts (phone + simcard + google) will cause headaches only, at least to me.

question 3:
if ur not a heavy web surfer or app downloader, i suggest u switch to data network to 2g for whatsapp or some facebooking. after that u will see the difference smile.gif

Anyone using Cyanogenmod stable? thinking of flashing it.
*
i'm using Cynogenmod 7.1 stable when it came out, then the day after that i flashed the nightly #80. if u can see if xda forum, some users experience problems after they switch to CM from other custom roms but some dont have problems. as for me i switched from Litening rom 6.1 to cynogen. make sure u follow the steps carefully and wipe cache.

I dont face any problems like they say but i would suggest u to do some reading in the xda cynogenmod 7.1 thread before u flash. certain problems faced by the users can be fixed but some cannot. some tried flashing 2 times to get it to work flawlessly (which i did too).

However im very happy with my nightly #80 smile.gif wait til i find some critical problems with it first before i change rom. cheers

Thanks Uncle Benny for sharing. I downloaded Vlingo Virtual Assistant instead and will try it for fun.

What are the differences between Speaktoit and Vilingo?
*

No issue for me. You're running stock? Have you look into Voice Input & Output setting?

QUOTE(selphy @ Oct 14 2011, 12:44 PM)
Mine works fine. What ROM are you using? Can you double click on the home button to access voice talk features? The speaktoit asks if I want to use Samsung TTS or Pico TTS first time i run it.
*
i'm using cynogenmod 7.1. it doesnt prompt me to choose any TTS on first time run. weird.

TTS is text to speech, what you need is STT speech to text lol. cyanogenmod removes all google apps, you need to reinstall back google voice, voicesearch.apk
*
but its weird that i can use Vlingo but not Speaktoit. lol.

QUOTE(destEX @ Oct 14 2011, 01:43 PM)
Now that i tried the google voice search, speaktoit is CRAP! i get 5x higher accuracy talking to google voice search than to speaktoit no matter what i try.
open the .zip or .,tar with winrar, navigate to system>apps, one of those apks is the gingerbread keyboard
*
since i'm on cynogenmod without google apps, i tried to download google voice search from market. when i open, have to configure my email acc and need to go to google.com/voice to enable something? then i get this error:
Google Voice is not available in your country.
Thanks for visiting Google Voice. We're not yet open for users outside the US, but are planning to expand our service to additional countries in the future.

GOSH!

i do have vlingo smile.gif but i was just skeptical that i can use vlingo but not speaktoit assistant with the problem i've mentioned. hmmm..

EDIT: haha i googled for google voice apk n installed it manually since cynogenmod removed it. now Speaktoit works! it was powered by google voice search, no wonder i cant get it to work at first. thanks to all anyway smile.gif

It will stuck on the Boot screen only...  rclxub.gif

So i reflash it to Batista v2.2...  tongue.gif
*
did u both follow the steps given by cynogen carefully? coming from stock rom or other custom rom? i'm using cynogenmod 7.1 now. first, i got stuck at bootscreen too so i tried booting to CWM using the volume down + power button, then wipe data & wipe cache, then flash from the zip file again.

after it hanged i panicked and straight away reflashed the kernel. which din work. tried reflashing to stock kernel. din work either.

well. the flash twice thing was not on the wiki page. so i din know bout that, not until after a few liters of manly tears later.  cry.gif
*
flashing twice is not a requirement for cynogenmod. some managed to get it to work on first flash. those who cant get it to work will definitely try flashing another time smile.gif it could be due to some customization is previous custom roms and not wiped properly before installing cynogenmod. dont worry u can try to wipe cache & reflash it until it works for u. it worked for me smile.gif

hi CHEESE! its really u! see if u can guess who i am but its already quite obvious aint it? biggrin.gif
btw flash Cynogenmod 7.1! it has an option to turn off camera shutter sound and then turning off media volume shuts the autofocus sound up too.

any Cyanogenmod user? Do you encounter random black outs? (screen turns black and doesn't respond, sometimes wait a while it will come back by pressing power button, but sometimes the phone turns off and you have to hold power button to start the phone..

even with this i still won't switch from this awesome rom yet.. so far happens twice since yesterday... touch wood
*
i've migrated from Cynogenmod 7.1 stable -> nightly #80 -> nightly #87. never had any blackouts before. only force closes but after using the Dev Tool to fix permissions, works flawlessly now without any issues at all.

which version are u on? and did u follow the steps to wipe date/factory reset then wipe cache before flashing?

I'm using nightly #87, flashed twice. How to 'use Dev Tool to fix permissions'? teach please smile.gif

any changes that made you jump to #87? any critical bug fixes? if not I think I will try going back to stable version.

followed step by step to wipe data/factory reset, then wipe cache, wipe dalvik, wipe battery stats, then flash from sd card twice..
*
on nightly #87, it includes all the bug fixes needed since the stable version. solved the external sd card mounting issue as well as added usb on the go mounting, etc etc. Check here: http://cm-nightlies.appspot.com/?device=galaxys2

u may give another try by wiping everything off, flashing back to stock rom, from there install CWM recovery and then flash CM7 again. this would be ur last resort but do remember to backup ur data. cheers smile.gif

regarding fix permission, open ur Dev Tool and see got any options to 'Fix Permissions'? if dont have then try reading here (http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Troubleshooting) to see if u can find out what went wrong.

i have just edited my post above about fix permissions. perhaps u can try to see if u can fix ur problem from there. the fix permission thing really helped, i was about to go back to Lite'ning Rom 6.1 due to the force closing issues haha.

yeah go ahead and try it out. its seriously worth all the trouble! love my CM7! haha all the best man!
