I record this using an electronic XM-drum with the sound output to audition program and added some EQ effects.

There is hiss even before I start to record. will try to tweak some of the EQ to remove that.

I'm not sure of the BPM. have u find out?
will send you guys the drum track once i've record it using ableton.

Each individual drum component connects to the sound module and output sound as one single channel. (if that's what you mean by mono)

This outputs connects to the line-in stereo of my PC.
I will try out Ableton tonight and let you know the outcome of it.

He is using electric drums that's why its easier to record.
*
yup. in the comfort of our room without annoying the neigbours smile.gif

Hey rathead, good drum cover! I think your problem mostly lies with distortion. Make sure to adjust your drum levels so that it doesn't clip and distort! (The volume is too high for the computer to handle, causing distortion)

Good luck on the next cover guys! Sounds pretty good so far. I'll try to find some time to contribute in the near future.
*
Thanks bro, you are right it sounded noisy and hissy.
I've purposely bump up the EQ effects after recording it, if not the drums would sound "flat" as in it wouldn't blend into the song.

Will re-record it once I found out how to remove the hiss while recording it in a separate track.

Guys, the BPM is 83.

Guys, I wanna suggest this arrangement for the song.

BPM: 83
The song will start with a bang, not like the original song which starts which 2 bar measures of acoustic guitar. I suggest we do extra 4 bars of instrumental (all instruments) on top of the original song.

1. Intro(all) -4 bars
2. Verse 1 - acoustic
3. And I remember...[drum beats enter here]
4. Chorus...[all]
5. Verse 2..[all]
6. For the second 'All those crazy things'..[note to drummer, make the bass drum in quarter notes, the snare rolls in 16th notes in ascending volume]
7. Chorus
8. Bridge 1 - This is a violin solo
9. Bridge 2 - This is guitar riff
10. Chorus x 2.
11. End
*
I do agree most of it,

For item:
1: doable, example intro something like paramore's - For A Pessmist I'm Pretty Optimistic.
2 - 5: agreed.
6: doable, i'll see what i can do to blend in.
7. is it all?
8 - 9: agreed. drum beat remain.
10: Chorus 1: All
10: Chorus 2: Maybe some guitar riff according to the drums beat
11: ok

*

hey guys,

here is the original + 1st draft-drum track
http://www.mediafire.com/?xr043ede4mh1nu0
open the Ableton live set file.

not really perfect, few mistakes because was in a hurry to record.
still haven't record the 4 measures intro. left a blank there.
Please experiment it with your own ideas to fill in some grooves.

and here is the MP3 drum-only track with added EQ from Adobe Audition.

ok, i'll see what i can come up with this weekend for some guitar riffs.

ah. crap, my ableton is 8.0.4. nvm... i'll work it out anyway. err.. can you show a screen shot of where you place your track alongside Ms Lavigne's?
*
My Ableton is version 8.2.2. you can't open the file?
Hmm, maybe the file path when you save the file is different
Anyway, here is the screenshot of the track

Hey nabz, I wasn't able to contact you lately. Yes you are still part of the group. If its alright with you, let's give the vocal part to genyou90 for this cover as he was keen on joining. We can do a separate cover (I'm thinking Foster the People) but that would be later. Thanks.
Btw, this is a rock cover, I'm quite OK with these drum riffs but I think we need a more aggressive drum playing like this:

And oh, Little Ice can't make it this round so yeah we have to revise the arrangement. Open for discussion.

P.S. I was out of town last weekend, just got back from holidays.
*
Yup, I know that it is quite a "soft" drum beat and the verse is pretty much almost the same as the original ones.
I'll work out something to add more 16th notes and some ideas from that cover.

QUOTE(deadfrog @ Mar 12 2012, 07:15 PM)
found something useful and informative.

QUOTE(deadfrog @ Mar 13 2012, 11:00 AM)
we try out everything. just throw all ideas in and we shall see what we can pick.
*
that video is really useful!, i'll put in more open hi-hats to make it more rock-ish.
and maybe you can come out with your guitar riffs then at least I can have some ideas to improvise. cool.gif

Not sure if this sounds rock enough. need to listen to your guitar riffs to improvise and make some adjustment.
Any of you done with your part?

downloading ur new track.i dunno but i cant seem to sync ur previous track with ori avril track.maybe mp3 ive downloaded got warp anywhere.will try to sync with this version later
*
Yeah i know, there is some sync problem.

what you can do is insert avril's original track first. then Ableton will auto-set tempo to 83 BPM. Make sure you leave some 4 bar for the intro.
1. Then go to Create > Insert Audio Track
2. Insert the Drum track in 2-Audio clip view. (You can drag-and-drop the file from your folder into Ableton)
3. Note: the drum track is not sync to the original track tempo yet and Ableton auto-set the BPM of the drum track to 110.44
4. In the "Sample" box for the drum track, change the Start point to 0 (only the first one)<enter>. Note: it will auto change to -1.
5. Then click "wrap" twice, the track will be auto set to 83 BPM, and start counter at 1.

user posted image

This will make the track play on count number 1 and sync with the original song. below is screenshot of the sync track.
user posted image

IF you don't do the step above the drum track will be out of sync.
I'm not sure why so much hassle once the individual track is exported out.

And also if you are recording your track, please reduce the avril's original track volume, because u might get confused with the original drum beat and mine.
the original ones uses lots of off beats and ghost notes and its hard to focus. rclxub.gif

Let me know if you guys want to change some part so it fits into your bass/guitar riffs.

both of my E strings on my guitar gave way... i'll replace them this weekend and put in some riffs. got some ideas.

i think the 4 bars intro will have to sound something acoustic to blend in with the 1st verse if that's what killer wants. something spacey type of melody, y'know something like the start of Don't Wanna Close My Eyes by Aerosmith.
*
Pls, show us your ideas soonest so that we can improvise to fit it.

QUOTE(killerkamote7 @ Mar 26 2012, 10:54 PM)
I've replaced the strings of my acoustic guitar to Martin's custom light, the frikin high E string broke when I was tuning it ;(

Have to run to Woh Fatt this weekend haiyoo. Tomorrow I'll replace my electric guitar strings to Slinkies.

Anyway, the 4 bars intro should be loud. The acoustic guitar together with the vocals will come on the 3rd beat of the 4th bar (it's an upbeat). Will try to improvise more on the intro this weekend.

Rathead, thanks for the explanation on the synching. I've heard the drum cover, I'm glad it was better than before.

Any comment from the vocalist? where is he btw? lol
*
no probs.
i donno how will it sound when vocals and acoustic guitar comes in the 3rd beat of the 4th bar.
but we can try that.

QUOTE(genyou90 @ Mar 27 2012, 10:27 AM)
shit....super busy for last week, where am i now ? lost track...hahaha
*
Sorry to say this but, I think vocalist should have an advantage to practise anywhere and anytime. (eg, driving / in shower etc)
compared to us where we need our instruments in hand to experiment with stuffs.
we are still in an early stage, so you still have time.. wink.gif

@rathead,heard ur track.sounds a bit rock n roll to me.its a nice track anyway.will try to fit a bass track as soon as possible

EDIT:ok after all the trouble i went to sync the track,i was right that my avril original track is the main cause.my original mp3 downloaded was not the same as rathead's.if u all try to see in the internet, there are mp3s of duration 3:44,3:45,3:46,3:47.the one rathead is using is the 3:47,while mine is 3:45.hence the track not syncing.now that ive found this out,the problem has been solved sweat.gif
*
ohh. i didnt know that there are multiple duration of avril's original track that can cause syncing issues.
mine, i took it from youtube and converted it into mp3.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VT1-sitWRtY&ob=av2e

but if you guys want, you can download the mp3 I used to record with the drum track. duration 3:47.
just to make sure that everyone is using the same track without syncing issues.

Thanks rarap for highlighting this. icon_rolleyes.gif
