Yes, if u want to avoid penalty
Having said tat, u can withdraw anytime subject to payment of penalty
*
er.. i think can withdraw anytime before 55 for a/c B only
thus 70% still.. can't touch me..<hammer time> tongue.gif

http://www.ppa.my/prs/about-prs/prs-scheme-features/
70% in Sub-account A which must not be made available for pre-retirement withdrawal; and
30% in Sub-account B which would be available for pre-retirement withdrawal subject to payment of an 8% tax penalty on the withdrawal sum

Thanks sir, the average returns should be outrun epf right?

bro - no one in their right mind will say for sure tongue.gif

every investment vehicle has some usage, like every weapon.
it depends on why and how one uses it, in relation to other arsenals.

for me & a lot of others, PRS is just for:
1. mainly tax relief without "spending" on stuff - ie. magazines, books, computer, etc.
2. 0% service charges

Specifically for me & maybe just a handful
3. fits my need for more real estate investments (REITs) coz have AmREITs Asia Pac PRS (some name like that - lazy to check tongue.gif )

BTW - why are U comparing to EPF?
U mean your choice is PRS or EPF?

if i was in such a situation where i've to choose PRS or EPF,
i'd go EPF lor coz it has tax relief (assuming i've not maxed out yet)
+ has minimum 2.5%pa returns guaranteed in writing (er.. not the Syariah of EPF version ya).

Yes, i don't trust EPF 100% but PRS too coz 55 and older wor
BTW EPF allows withdrawals for a lot of stuff too - can say even more flexible than PRS.
That's just me ya - your mileage may differ

Public, not sales charges.
how long do you mean ?
No sign show they could generate gain at the moment

No sales charges from Public Mutual's PRS?
looks different here https://www.sc.com.my/prive-retirement-sche...fee-comparison/

anyhow - there are certainly annual management fees & trustee fees

On fears of this / that:
1. Invest in funds that feeds into existing fund house's mutual funds.
Big bunch of PRS mutual funds does that - not specifically setup to be ran/managed by itself.
Problem solved?

2. Collapse.
If fund houses can collapse & i cant get my PR$ back- i think it'll the least of my worries... thus, nearly in the same pile as "what if EPF/Gov collapse / nuclear/zombie holocaust"

3. er.. where were we again? oh yeah - $3K pa + get tax relief summore + incentive (if youngster)
i think most youngsters spend more than that on mobile network AND phone(s) per year so.. ho hum.

QUOTE(MUM @ Mar 22 2017, 10:10 PM)
Fund prices lowest means "cheapest"?

Don’t Judge A Fund By Its Price!
Investing Basics
It is a common misconception for investors to believe that a lower fund price makes a fund ‘cheaper’. In fact, whether a fund is expensive or not depends strictly on the valuation of its underlying stocks or bonds within its portfolio perform; the unit or the NAV price of the fund bears little significance.

wow,...with that got 3% SC some more...really happy choosing lor
I googled and found this knee jerk reaction in investing meaning in simple plain English...hope it helps....
https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=knee+j...sting&*&spf=734

if you keep buying when the NAV go down, ,...soon you will be out of money to buy....
do you know how many times does the Nav of a funds fluctuates more than 1% per year?
unless you are in MM funds

1% down is also NAV go down case...cost per unit is lowered....

icon_rolleyes.gif
*
Lots of folks complain we don't use plain English heheh - i feel U.

U good, have the patience to explain/clarify + even google link - especially to folks that "chase low NAV" not knowing what NAV constitutes & fund's distribution impact to NAV (with no value to investor whatsoever).

QUOTE(dasecret @ Apr 11 2017, 02:30 PM)
Let's talk about something more interesting

Singapore has their version of PRS before us. Today I decided to take a look at how it works
http://www.mof.gov.sg/Portals/0/MOF%20For/..._summarised.pdf

I like wor, the tax savings is a lot more substantial than the RM3,000 per year for 10 years. The cap is SGD12,750 per year although 50% of it would be taxable after you are retired, but assuming using the existing Msian tax regime, the effective tax rate would have been much lower and therefore still save compared to paying the taxes today

Besides, the flexibility in type of assets that you can invest in is also much better. Within the unit trust sphere it's also not as limited as PRS's

I think if the gov's main objective for PRS is to boost and supplement Msian workforce's retirement savings. SRS is a lot more superior. Why copy also cannot copy properly one  yawn.gif
*
Dont lar compare us with a developed country laugh.gif

Their highest tax bracket, when i checked last, was around 20% only.
AND to hit that tax bracket.. good lord.. >SGD240K+/- if recall correctly

Even their GST implementation is.. nevermind... still in MY, gotta deal with MY problems.. cry.gif

Wow.. can't read (severe dyslexic?), didn't bother reading this thread/topic? or can't tell the difference between what's shared here - FSM's 0%, generally 3% VS your happily stated commission 5%..

But if that's the case, not eligible for tax exemption for PRS, right?
*
i hope U dont mind me clarifying here - our buddy.. U ask (A), he answer (B) pulak. maybe not enough coffee kua laugh.gif

A. If U take out from EPF A/C1 to buy EPF approved mutual fund - NO tax relief.

extra bonus info
B. If U buy PRS - "tax relief" up to MYR3K, NOT "tax exemption".
very different between the two, ask your favourite tax expert

C. There is a way to buy PRS "using" EPF A/C2 but it involves a mortgage

Hope the above clarifies / helps notworthy.gif

funny.. 'PRS no dividend = bad'

bought into something & yet dunno left pocket / right pocket of mutual funds / unit trusts issuing distribution (not dividends) = zero sum game..

Enlightenment can be found.

Btw, anyone managed to switch PRS funds?
Wonder how is the process like and any charges to it, asking because of an impending crash

i did it a year or two back, from Affin-Hwang to AmInvestment, via FSM.
Took about 1mth+/-
No cost other than time cost (ie. different out/sell existing & in/buy new PRS)

Impending crash? cool. which market & by how much a % of it's index?

"trailing earnings" - as long as investors are invested, a % of all the funds is earned by agents/FSM

U know there are yearly management fees and stuff in PRS/Unit trusts right? guess who the fund houses pay some of those % to? brows.gif

yup, looks like a loophole. i'm aiming to do like that too when 55 and if the SOP is still the same tongue.gif
ie.
a. place $3K into PRS fixed income type thus low/no fluctuations Nov
b. take back out coming Feb

It's not really a loop hole.
When you invest in PRS you're subject to loss due to initial SC by PRS provider and/or NAV downward movement.
The return is not guaranteed as in SSPN/EPF/saving plan.
