There are a lot of spirit/god mediums that mortify their own flesh (piercing, cutting, hitting, slashing, burning, etc.) without any signs of pain.

The question is, how is it being done without pain?

What's the science behind these acts?

Mind over mater, I thought its general knowledge already? The mind can trigger chemical synthesis to paralyze body parts just like when we sleep, idle mode though not completely detached.

The power of believing can fool ourselves and others.

Look up derren brown. If pain is one thing, making people think that he is invisible is another.

perhaps it's modification of pain signals by the endorphin and dopamine system......

That has been tried very long time ago in China, it was 20 over years ago since I saw video about it.
