Refret an Vietnam Acoustic Guitar
user posted image
This is first time we encounter an Vietnam made guitar, quit good tone, but the string action quite high....
user posted image
Apparently the owner of this guitar really practise hard~!
user posted image
Yeacks~!!
user posted image
This is unavoidable defect while remove the old fret wires, many slot will have some defects, but how many guitar tech will repair them before install the new fretwires?
user posted image
But we won't skip this important step, although this will takes long time and very focus work on every single slot.
user posted image
So that the beauty of the original could be reveal.
user posted image
And we also polish every single fretwire to the shiniest surface. No matter it is a cheap guitar or high end super weapon. Coz every guitar is a life to us.

And good music will continue make us live longer and happier ^^

Thanks regiuseven. We need to cut shot the tang so that it won't damage the binding.
I have stainles steel fretwires, it is very expensive to do a SS refret. but it last 5 times longer life than normal nickel wires.

Many of us know that acoustic guitar comes with built-in Piezzo pickup, normally not convenient to swap to other brand as the shape won't easily fit nicely.
Here we got a budget acoustic guitar with a Tong Shan( China ) made pickup which have more rectangular shape.

Owner of this guitar: Can I swap to a Fishman Aero? Will it looks ugly later?
Guitar Hospital: Don't worry, we will makeit in a proper way for an acoustic guitar. But not just leave a hole, or put an sticker or ......Let's begin!

The excessive part will be cover by a solid wood hand sanded to fit.

Who said this neck twisted?
Here we got a Fender 62's reissue MIJ. This guitar owner was told by 2 famous guitar tech in KL that the neck is twisted and cannot be repair anymore. And, till the owner felt disappointed and visit us for a custom neck to fit this body.
user posted image
But, my curiosity want me to check how bad the neck twist. Let see.
user posted image
I can't see any obvious twist. But the tuner of G string is wrong position.
user posted image
From bottom. Check the last fret and the nut, both must be parallel line;
if the neck is twisted, the last fret and the nut will be in a V shape line line this " > "
user posted image
Triple check, still can't find a twisted sign.
user posted image
user posted image
But the neck is have a down bow pblm, and slightly up bow at the heel.
This is causing tremendous fret buzz from middle to higher position.
But this is not a problem in Guitar Hospital.
user posted image
We also give this baby a handsome copper shielding as this guitar always humming and loud hissing.
Nice pickups!! Woohoo!! But the wiring is ....
user posted image
user posted image
This has made me cry..... ~.~
At least now he could feel the real good thing only in Guitar Hospital.
user posted image
And his papa is finally realize how good his baby can be. He's so happy with his baby now ^^
Thanks to Crunchman (Shai).

Ray did a fantastic job of restoring my ESP Mirage today. Adjusted the neck, full setup with pickup adjustment intonation settings, copper shielding, teflon copper wiring, spring change and machine polish all at a small cost of RM 250. Well worth the price paid for an extremely great service. Apart from that, he's got a friendly personality. I also added a paper and oil cap to replace the old ESP capacitor which works wonders on my Seymour Duncans. Will bring my other 14 guitars to him to service in the very near future.

Cheers and thanks for doing a great job bro.

Custom Brass Nut for Epiphone LP Goldtop
user posted image
Do you know why so many Les Paul don't stay in tune well? Some said the tuners, some suspect the bridge, do you know the nut is also the most suspicious thing?
Most of the nut design will deliver unbalance tension on tuner side and fretboard side. Because the les paul headstock / tuner's position, nut slot design force ur string to form a "Z" alike shape. In commonsense, do you think this is good for your tuning system?
Let's see what we solve your problem.
user posted image
This time, our client want us to give him a brass nut to replace his problematic nut.
user posted image
First step, measure the nut slot width。
user posted image
And check the brass material thickness. And remove the excessive.
user posted image
Till it can perfectly fit in, then we round the upper front edge. Now we can see the basic shape.
user posted image
For a better performance and appearance, we insist to radius it. This is 12'' radius, same like most of the Les Paul in the market.

Okay, time to make the string slot. This is what we different from others. All slot depth is set to 0.40mm from the top of 1st fretwire. Even a kid can easily press a full F bar chord.
user posted image
Why? because the string slot will not grip ur string to form that " Z" shape, but just a "^" shape. this is similar as the strat structure. Notice the brighter part inside the string slots? That is only points contact with strings. Less point of contact, less friction, better tension balancing on both side.
user posted image
Not only that. We are not allow normal sharp slot end like a normal nut. The sharp 90 degree's slot end is also another reason to stuck your guitar string on each side. Especially the round wounded lower strings. The left 3 slot has just smoothen the slot end. See the difference?
user posted image
3 slot done, and now the next 3.
user posted image
All slots rounded precisely. Hurray~!!! Next step is the most exciting moment~!! Polish~~~
Sand over the whole nut with 800 grid sand paper,
then 1500 grid,
then 2000 grid,
then 3000 grid..........
user posted image
Finally we got a shinny golden powerful lovely custom made nut~!

I seriously recommend everyone to the guitar hospital. 3rd time i sent in my ESP and this time for a pickup and pots change and Ray took extra care and effort in setting up my guitar once more to my exact requirements in terms of playability. His attention to detail is amazing and he makes 101% sure the customer is satisfied before handing the guitar back to him. This guy is a real miracle worker.

I'm only sorry to take up so much of his time to attend to my guitars needs.

Dr. Ray breathed new life into my aging Ibanez PGM 30 when I sent it in yesterday. Copper shielding, teflon wiring, fretboard polish, volume pot change with a treble bleed cap upgrade, pickup setup and a complete guitar setup. Man, this guy is a miracle worker, he sets up all my guitars with extreme comfort and playability with just that millimeter perfect action and string height. The tone of my PGM is totally amazing. Sounds better than when I first bought it new. Even after my change to DiMarzio pickups last year at a different guitar tech, I still found the tone, string separation and tonal clarity lacking, but now it is just plain amazing! Note for note clarity and when I shred, I hear every note I pick. Tonal orgasm!

He can understand my tonal needs and demands and I'm a very very demanding customer so where other guitar techs have failed me, he has not. He may take some time with the guitars, but if you have just an ounce of patience, you'll realize it is all worth it. The promo may be over, but I'm still sending all my 15 guitars to him to work on.

Next project, Squier Sham Strat and Ibanez EGEN Herman Li.

P.S.: Forgot to give you the review of my JEM 7V bro. Great work and by far the best sounding and playing JEM since your setup. Thanks bro!

Every guitar start from these..... wood. But a good one must use something special ^^
We use this special wood found at pasar tani (... of Canada) LOL
user posted image
The Fireman shape in smaller scale of 1cm all round. And this is a 7 string lefty.
user posted image
After sand off the rough surface... Mmmm looks like the skin of Python ....
user posted image
Looks from behind. Wow... like bird eyes. Manyak canteeek. But there is a gap , we must get rid of it.
user posted image
Plan it till 100% flat.
user posted image
So that it could glue tightly.
user posted image
The neck is a 5 piece construction. and it is 1 piece. Only the middle part can use.
user posted image
That's why many big manufacturer don't like to make 1 piece
user posted image
Now the basic shape just done.

Why we need to make the neck like this? this is 3 piece of Canadian Maple on left, middle , right. and 2 piece of Sapele in between. This theory will keep the neck in straight and prevent it to get twist in future.
user posted image
Cause all of the wood is joint at different direction of the grain.
user posted image
The truss rod is the best rod in the market. This is super sensitive truss rod that fully function in both way.
user posted image
Ready to slot? Go !!
user posted image
Perfect fit smaller slot for the whole rod, and the bigger end is for the rod head.

Ready to put on the flame maple fretboard in a while.

if u are free to DIY just to remove the old finish on ur guitar. you will feel this price is very cheap.
plus the finish materials ew use is not those cheap car lacquer. it is 3 times more expensive than car lacquer.
if you want to use cheap material, we can teach you how to do. but u won't satisfy like many sad stories that finally admitted to guitar hospital.

hi akira, my lousy craftsman guitar "position of the bridge nut hole" is wrong. I change the stock bridge to a wilkinson gotoh, it's way too "at right side". the stock nut screw also differ in size, the left one is larger, the right one is smaller. so that is what causing my gotoh to be in the "wrong position". Would you be able to cover the old holes and make 2 new holes so the strings+bridge would align properly? Approximately how much do you charge, time taken? what time can I come this saturday? thanks a lot for listening

The Guitar Hospital Mid Year Super Promotion~!!
Only RM290 for all the service below worth more than RM1000!!

1,Pro Setup- (RM250, which already the most value service that we always provide, including : Basic setup, intonation, Neck adjustment, Fret leveling, Fret recrown, low action without buzzing )

2,Copper Shielding- (RM130, which could reduce hum, hiss, electronic magnetic interference, microphonic disturbance. could provide clearer tone and no need to use noise suppressor which could also cut out a lot of hi mid tone.)

3,Nut and Pickup setup-(RM100, To make your open string to a very low action without the trouble of buzz, plays like butter. We will reset your every single pole piece of your pickup to make sure same clarity on every string.)

3,Full Body Polish- ( RM180-250, It is a pain when you see your beloved guitar scratches everywhere... but we always love to restore the gloss on your guitar, and you'll smile when the result is just so amazing!!)

4,Fretboard Refurbish + Beeswax Treatment- ( RM150, Many guitar manufacturer will spray a thin layer of lacquer on your fretboard instead of doing this proper way. We will scrape off the old finished /dirty sticky surface of your fretboard to bare wood surface, and refinish with lemon oil and beeswax. )

5,Teflon wire and Orange Drop Cap Upgrade ( RM120, The best combination and provide bigger range of tone selection and better tone clearity which commonly use in most of the expensive guitar for decades.)

This is only avaiable from Now until 20th June 2012.
Hurry !!! Only RM290 for all of above~!!!

Hey Bro, just wondering, are you able to change the paint-job of my acoustic guitar from a glossy black paint to a transparent black stain? Preferably for the whole body, neck & head.

Any idea if this will affect the tone of the guitar?

We can do it, but please make sure your guitar is a full solid body with real matured wood.
and the finish is not PE Lacquer that cure like a thick plastic layer. coz some manufacturer will spray solid colour to cover some ugly wood. if the wood grain is looks good, they will normally spray transparent colour.

to spot refinish is only rm120-350.
but it may not looks perfect when ur old lacquer turned yellow.
best result is to do full refinish, rm650.
