Hi,

I have a wall which "attacked" by aqueous vapor from neighbour..According to my painter, my wall paint will bubble and fallen out very soon..

He said those shop just want to sell the water-resistant chemical (防水) and said can solve the problem..but he already done a lot of experiment and been faced this issues a lot of time..He insisted, even I put water-resistant chemical (防水), my wall paint still can't last for more than 3 months..Even he consulted ICI dulux specialist, they also said no solution unless we STOP the aqueous vapor..

anyone here been success to solve this problem?

thanks for advices

Why so technical term? Is it water leak from your neighbor?

hope not water leak.....I am not sure where the aqueous vapor come from....maybe beside is toilet or soil underground.....I notice my wall turned brown(sign of water) after a while...and when torch with hand, you will feel it...

and the paint of other part of wall is fine..stick strongly..but for those part attacked by aqueous vapor, you will notice the paint can't stick on the wall and fallen out easily after a while..

What is behind the wall? Is it your neighbor toilet? laundry area? or is just soil?

If possible, maybe go talk to your neighbor and go in to check the area, also 10 feet left and 10 feet right. Water may leak and flow from high to low.

Like my house, i add a water pipe for my dry kitchen, but the stopper was not properly tight. Water was slowly dipping and affect entire 10 feet stretch of the wall. Thought was my neighbor, i go talk to her check the other side of the wall (my neighbor house). Later my plumber come and seal it tight again wait two week and wall is dry. All the paint eventually fallen out.

If the water come from underground soil, it is very hard to check.....even if water pipe leakage underground, I also feel impossible to replace/repair it...

Your neighbor eventually have to replace it else water bill will be very high for them.

Another method i was considering (during the early incident) together with my contractor is hack out entire plastering wall of the affected area up to 15 to 20 feet diameter, and use water proof cement to do the plastering again. Maybe you can consider this too.

If I notice earlier, maybe can hack the plastering wall until bricks and place a layer of tar (according to my painter) before plastering again...

but my house is in painting stage and get ready to finish up all the things and move in...

seems like nothing I can do now...maybe need to visit neighbour house one day...

donno what will happen to my new paint after few months...headache...

I have the same problem. The problem wall back is the toilet.

Later after a while, your paint will bubble and rough surface.

Since you haven't move in, solve it now better.

Try get good paint sealer. But it won't last forever. Maybe 6 - 12 months paint will start chipping out. Long term solution got to see what is on your neighbor wall / behind the wall to confirm what best fix.

1) Is the water mark on 1st or Gnd Floor?
2) Your house design and neightboor should not have much different, which you most properly could imaging what area is behind

Good time to build relation with next door too...

I supporting other view as Solve the problem before moving in. Imaging once you move in withall the item and need start hacking, the cleanning work is worst...

paint sealer is not used to solve the vapour problem..you may read the description on the container...

agree with you, within 6 months sure will start chipping out...

I agree with you, solve the problem before moving in....

but my renovation almost a year and both I and my wife already very tired...

we try to change and modify as much as we can to make it better...a long the road, we already used a lot of money...

few days ago, I felt happy and thought everything will be smooth and we can move in very soon....

suddenly, today painter inform me about this problem...after discuss with him, I found out that there is no solution unless stop the source.....

my mood very down now....
