The fastest 1TB harddrive is actually the Samsung Spinpoint F1 HD103UJ.
Now I know there's gonna be some skepticism, so look below.
These benchmarks show it beating the 3 major competing models from Seagate, WD, and Hitachi (formerly IBM).

These benchmarks show the Samsung regularly performing at the top of its class.
In some benches and games it even beats the Raptor X 150GB. Only the VelociRaptor and SCSI/SAS/FC 15k drives are faster.

Yeah, Samsung's 1TB drive has a slightly higher fault rate than WD and Seagate, so only buy it if you're ok with that.

Having said that the WD GP and Seagate Barracuda 11 are quite slow compared to the Samsung F1.

The best are Samsung and Intel. Intel's drive isn't available yet, but you can get Samsungs OEMed to OCZ.

The WD 640GB Caviar SE 16MB is faster than most of the 32MB Seagate disks correct, due to the 320GB platters. Only 320GB and 334GB HDDs like the Samsung F1 are a match for it.
