hrmm.... i just RMA my WD1600JS, bought it on February 05

but i still opt for WD, i already bought 3 WD (120G, 160G and 200G)

currently using WD2000JS (Sata2)

i think hd is mainly a hit and miss thing. some ppl swear by WD and say Maxtor is craps but i think it's the luck of the draw.

my 60gb maxtor bought in 2001 is still working fine now and has found new life in xbox. even more reliable are those quantum fireballs released back in late 90s. i still have a couple running steadily in my grunt workstations too bad quantum had to close shop.

in my 10+ years of computing, i've had 2 hd failures, one was many years ago (cant remember what brand) while the other was my WD80 which conked out last year. i also had many misadventures with spoilt partitions, corrupted data etc so nowadays i am quite paranoid and have a decent (hopefully!) backup plan in place already. 1 huge 320gb hd to backup the other 2 smaller ones...hahaha.

Western Digital not so reliable these days.... especially larger HDD like 200GB... i got two of them ... now got some problem...data gets corrupted. O/S missing... but bad sector could be detected

Too bad that IBM don't make enduser's HDD anymore. been using DeskStar 60Gb 7200 2meg since 2003.
Went to lowyat yesterday to hunt for HDD and  was told that there's no IBM hdd for a long time
anyway, setteled for WD 80Gb 7200 8mb hope that it don't break down like my friend's  WD
I've noticed that after changing to a better PSU, there's no more bad sectors and no HDD deaths. maybe that's the cause of faulty HDDs??

so far I recommend Seagate to my frens and clients. no problem/complain at all

i think Samsugn recently start selling their hdd is it?? haha!!
needs Samsung hdd user comment/s...hehe!!!

o no...internal informer info always true le...cham la like this~i pay xtra rm20 to get the samsung sp1614...now the truth is i m not get the best one...bloody hell~

haha...sorry bro. i din notice it so far i only see ppl keep complaining Maxtor HDD    btw im using WD HDD but will "dead" soon cos its operating noise getting louder and sometimes it will "break" (click sound). And i use Maxtor HDD for 3 years......lucky me got "good" Maxtor HDD 

some problem about harddisk deframenter ........

my harddisk brand is seagate , and the capacity is 80GB..
 
my harddisk was divided to three part...
i m face the problem of my pc FAT32 file system can't t transact deframent...
but other one on the NTFS file system no porblem for deframent...
 
what is the problem for my harddisk ???
 

       

erm now i'm getting a new harddisc.. budget below 300 bucks.. i don't know much about harddisc.. so which do u guys recommend??

one thing interesting for you guys to note, now my OS doesnt seem to let me format any of my HDD to FAT32 anymore. unless i reformat the PC and format the partition straight to FAT32, i cant convert any of them to FAT32.

hey...have u guys ever think about heat generate from HDD ? would it be the factor cause it to be failure ? or program like PnP software (BT, Kazaa etc...) if it really do then i think my WD problem probably because of BT. 

28k of bad sector. but the RMA took only about 1 week time. relief. and the good thing is that they RMAed a SATA 300mb/s replacing the SATA 150mb/s (transfer rate).

hrmm... the reason i opt for WD is because of its speed, according to some sellers in LYP. and comparing to seagate with NCQ, i still feel that WD is faster.

i know i should't totally believe in sellers intro, but i did, and i didn't regret.

the WD 120g and WD 200g is still running well. never experience any data loss before.

nope... i scanned it using another pc. and the answer pop up. once i slot in the HDD, windows straight away scanned it.

last month i bought a seagate 160 sata wiv ncq at viewnet pc shop. everything work great until yesterday when i on my pc a SMART error message came out... i continue to boot into window..scandisk..no bad sector..everything normal... try to restart few times the message still came out... so i disable the SMART function..

is there anything wrong wiv my hdd??

could i take back the hdd to the shop & change to a new one cause in 1 year time can exchange 1 to 1 but my hdd work normal if i disable the SMART??

normal windows xp sp2. once an additional hdd is install in to a pc, windows will scan the secondary hdd if it was not properly shut down before.
