Anyone here using the Seagate 500GB 7200.11 32MB SATA2 HDD? I been having numerous problem on it and been troubleshooting for the main culprit and no luck so far sad.gif

Always having disk read error... failed with paging the hdd... iastor error (AHCI & RAID only)... and ntfs error... now I'm reformatting and setting back to SATA IDE mode. Lets see what's next... shakehead.gif

Have you swapped your hardisk for a new one? Same problem?

It may be that your PSU is suspect. Check the 5V output and see if it fluctuates. Swap with another PSU and try or don't load your PC with too many things. See if it helps.

guys...i jus wondering which one better and long lasting.western digital or samsung.currently consider to select 1Tb sata hdsk.samsung quite promoted by HWM..consider d w.d and samsung, which one will be gud in term of data safe, long lasting,temp,etc...
anyone know n got some experince use either of them?

Well, I can safely say that Samsungs generally are the quietest in terms of idel and seek noise and coolest in terms of operating temperature. Good for HTPC use. Performance is also very close to the fastest WD or Seagate drives, if not faster !

Currently have 3 x 750GB Samsung F1 (32MB cache) in RAID 0.

No...dunno where,but i heard 5 yrs.not eh?then how long d warranty..3 yrs?

Only Seagate offers 5 year warranty on all their drives. Samsung offers 3 years warranty but I think their RAID / enterprise line drives carry 5 years. However, I've never seen them here yet.

WD offers 3 years warranty for their normal drives and 5 years for their RE / enterprise drives.

Well, just because of a few problems are highlighted leads to the conclusion that Samsung drives are junk? Going by that train of thought, then all drives regardless if it's Seagate, WD etc... are junk. No hardisk is perfect.

Hardisk drives are like a box of chocolates... you never know what you're gonna get. rclxms.gif

Frankly speaking, Samsung's HDDs do make me feel quite promising with it. Lower power consumption thus lower operating heat and noise. Some said performance wise only average, but that wouldn't be visible till we see the numbers on benchies I suppose. My 120GB Samsung Spinpoint SATA HDD still serve me very well till today smile.gif

Some of my "older" benchies with 2 x 750GB HD753LJ 32MB cache RAID 0 array. The 750GB uses the "older" 250GB per platter and not the 334GB per platter found on the 1TB version.

Some comparisons against my 2 x WD3200AAKS (not the new 00B3A0 single platter version) in RAID 0 array

@dopp, @jchue73

What sort of RAID 0 setup you using? The on-board mobo chip or a separate card?
*
Onboard RAID 0 with ICH9R.

I've seen reviews saying that WD Green Product is more suitable for external HD as it runs slower, hence cooler. But I wonder how much slower it is? Will it be a very noticeable different in the real world instead of on paper?
Also, I have an idea that slower HD may be more reliable. Haha... sounds stupid ya...

As long as your hardisk (assuming connected USB 2.0 externally) does not have performance exceeding 60MB/s, then you're ok. If not, it's a waste.

Putting a Samsung F1 and a WD Green hardisk as external USB drives, both will yield about the same results.
